I first played EvE on a trial account two years ago. I started out as a fighter then someone I met convinced me to train in mining. So I started doing that. Then I quit to go play WoW after the trial was up. Later, (about 1 year) I came back played for a month and quit (though both times I don't remember WHY exactly I quit, I know it wasn't because i thought the game was boring). Anyway, due to some shtuff this is really the only MMO I can play now, so I'm here for good. However, I've learned that I'm actually better off rerolling a whole new character (since they start with 800k SP focused into combat or mining or whatever) and my combat/miner has only 1mil SP. Anyway... I can't really decide whether to mine, or go combat. Both are fun in their own ways (well, mining is really only fun if I have someone to chat with, and known only two folks isn't that often heh) so... could anyone help me out here? Don't really know what exactly I'm looking for in terms of a response... I've read most the guides on mining and fighting and all that... *shrug* Any help would be appreciated, though like I said I don't know what I'm looking for exactly. Akavari Entara's Ship Log |

Hi there
Take a look at the DGAF Newbie Guide and Forum. We have articles about what skills to train when in our public forum. If you need specific help, just sign up and ask the questions you need for personal help.
Remember, you don't need to delete your current char to try making another. You can just use the two other slots on your account.

Personally, what I would do is make two trial accounts. On one, have a combat pilot, on the other a miner. After two weeks decide which character you want to continue, transfer all your isk to said character and activate that account, since you really have no use for your current account anymore

Thing is I've already activated this account. That and I do have two character slots open still... I've had a taste of both, each are fun in their own way I suppose but I can't decide what to focus on since you can only train one character at a time. Akavari Entara's Ship Log |

I agree with the earlier comment: don't delete your old char until it is absolutely necessary. Who knows, you might return to him/her someday because you like the name, or because you want to shake your cane at some n00bs and tell them how hard things were in your day.
As for your other question, it's a coin flip. I started with a char who had equal attributes (8's pretty much all the way across), and concentrated on mining. It was a slog to get into that Covetor. Now I've been training combat skills for months. I don't regret a thing.
I wouldn't create two alts in your remaining slots for each field just yet. Best create one and stick to training him/her even if your mind changes. You really don't want to go over the same ground twice.
As an aside (just saying so you don't forget the option), I am occasionally training up an uber-combat alt. When (if) the time comes I'll subscribe to a second account and transfer him over.

Most people end up in combat eventually, at least a little. I can tell you right now it is more fun than mining.

There is nothing wrong with doing mining and combat, if you find both fun probably the best ideia its actualy to do so. Since skill equaly usefull for diferent training patch are fairly common. Its usually better to train all in one character then split in 2 or 3 in the same account. You may also, like others said, create a secound account and train each path in one diferent character. The obivious advantage its to train 2 character at same time, de obivious problem its that you have to pay for 2 accounts.
