I recently bought the retail version of Eve, and have installed it on my desktop and created an account.
I now want to install the Eve client on my laptop but use the same account. I tried to install my retail copy on the laptop, but it said that the product key had already been used....
So how do I install the Eve client on my laptop? Is it as easy as downloading all 500mb of it from the Eve site? |

You can only have one character active per account at any one time. So even though you have a possible three to choose from you can only use one at a time on that account.
If you want to run two charcters at the same time, you can do that on the same machine or on different machines but you will need another account.
Hope this helps.
Since you have the CD I dont think you need to download the game, just create another account, install from CD on your laptop and log in with the new account username and password you just created.

Thanks....but I don't want another account, or to run two characters simultaneously. I just want to be able to play my single character on my account from my laptop as well as my desktop(at different times)....

I would think just installing it from the CD would work. But if not go to Eves website here Download Eve. After installing and updating Eve it will only ask you for your username and password when you log in. This should work fine.
I have my account on my main home computer and also have my account on my laptop for when I go over a friends house. I have not had any issues when I log on to them both "at different times"

Installing it from a CD should work. You don't need to register, obviously, but isntalling should work without difficulties.
Where are you getting this error?

I got the error after installation when it asks you for the product key.
I've actually now downloaded the Eve client from this website and I'm up and running - its just a shame it took a 3 hour download to do this...

It doesnt require the download if you have the cd. You just dont need to register as you already have done. Cancel that bit, start the game and connect as normal.

On your second computer, laptop, you will have to install, update then START the client and log in with your username and password you decidided when you REGISTRED the first time. No need to registrer again, you only use the cd-key to start an account, then, you can log in to your account at any place, that has the eve client installed.
