Hey
Since i'm looking to get a netbook (ASUS Eee 900/901, MSI Wind or Acer Aspire One) in the near future, the obvious question pops up: will it run EVE online?
so i'm asking if anyone in here owns a netbook and has EVE installed on it? - if so, what is the average Fps?
(i'm well aware of that it's not premium content we're talking)

Forget it, even the most recent netbooks use old stuff like Intel GMA 950 or S3 graphics, which isn't supported by Eve due to their lack of hardware T&L/vertex shaders. __________________________________________________

just been reading a bit on the eeeuser forum, and it seems like a few persons have played it on their Eee? Signature: Noob (2 mil SP) Searching friendly, social and teamplaying corp. drop a mail in-game to Akularen if interested. ;) |

It may run, but is it playable? __________________________________________________

EVE apparently will run on the Asus Eee series but.. not very well. 5fps in space style.
It'll load to let you change skills. I did a bit of research on this a while ago to buy an Eee for work so I can change skills during the day. Apparently they're good enough for a bit of skill changing/mining.
Give it an intense googlin', I believe you can get it running with a few tweaks.

Edited by: Slade Trillgon on 08/08/2008 12:25:28 I run EVE on a Toshiba Satellite that is almost 3 years old. It runs hot, I have it on low graphics, the cache set to zero, and I can not run 2 clients. With that being said, if I am zoomed all the way out I typically see fps in the mid to upper 20's.
EDIT: I am computer illiterate so I assume by notebook you mean laptop

i ran eve on my old Asus Eee 4g, certainly cant do any fighting or mining or whatever your into, but... you can quite happily log in, change skills, use chat channels, fly to other stations.
Personally all i used it for was changing skills and talking in corp chat

even when OC'ed with Eeectl running 1100 MHz, it isn't playable for mining?

Wanting to game on a netbook (with acceptable performance) is kinda asking a lot given the low-power CPU, lack of dedicated GPU and (generally-speaking) slow & old components. Admittedly, Eve isn't Crysis, but it's still a multiplayer 3D game.. __________________________________________________

have been googlin' a bit, and actually found a vid on youtube showing someone playing EVE on a 701 at stock speeds (630 MHz) it didn't look too laggy, however it wasn't fantastic, but looked playable? - and then imagine what 2 GB RAM, 1100 MHz OC, and the R2H drivers running on it? - then i guess mining should be possible? Excuse me, but my bullshit meter just frigging exploded...
Use the classic client DOH. Classic client runs perfectly fine on eeepc! Get the 900 or preferrably 901 (better battery life and OC), clock it to the needed speed. (900 mhz for the 900 and 1.8-2ghz for the 2.1), and the classic client will run perfectly fine for some mining and skill changing.
Do NOT try to pvp with it though.

I was using the stock version with 512mb ram... given that the Eee uses shared memory im sure the newer models with 2gb ram and faster cpu will be more than capable to mine with. even when OC'ed with Eeectl running 1100 MHz, it isn't playable for mining?
