Edited by: Rogen DarHeel on 14/08/2008 15:31:43 I like the idea of giving elite players something new. However I am not sure what that should be. I have been playing for almost 4 years and have 60M+ sps. I would like something new to shoot for myself. Of course it would have to actually be cool also, not an endless wild goose chase around the system looking for hacking sites or some such.
One thing I do notice about ships in EVE is that DPS in a T2 ship with massive skills still kinda sucks at times. My astarte with T2 neuts and void ammo still sometimes does not impress me. I'm thinking that this new elite ship should have better bonuses to DPS and nothing more? This way you can feel some power when using the ship but are still vulnerable to destruction?

this actually is an idea I like. Those ships would not have the huge base resistances of HACS/CS and other T2 ships. They have a slightly increased dage potential. But are a lot slower. Barely are a thread to smaller ships (when flying arround solo in one of these) as their locking time would be pretty bad, unless you fit 2-3 sensor boosters, which not many ppl would do though since you need your slots for other mods when you fly arround in a very expansive t2 battleship.
Also the chance for smaller ships to survive against such a ship is not really lower since they dont have a higher chance to hit smaller ships than a T1 BS.
In addition as they are proposed they are really a lot slower than any other subcapital ships and would have a really hard time to catch up with any other ship. Most Ships most likely would easily get away from those ships with just an afterburner. Unless you have ppl on your side who can Scram / web the target.
edit: And unlike some ppl want to pretend, those ships would not be solo ownage machines since because of their drawbacks they hardly have a chance to catch / tackle anything.

What I could imagine is adding new skills to the game that give further specialization.
What would happen if we added for every ship 3 new skills, using the Tempest as an example: - Superior Tempest Piloting L14 skill, adds 3% agility and speed to the Tempest per level - Superior Tempest Gunnery L14 skill, adds 3% damage and tracking speed per level - Superior Tempest Damage Control, adds 3% shields, armor and hull per level.
That way, someone who really wants to specialize can train these skills to level 5. It would give some advantage, but just to the extent that he would be expected to beat another opponent in the same ship who does not have those skills. And with the specificity of the skill per shiptype, as well as the high level of the skill (with also suitably high prerequisites of course), people won't just be able to specialize this far in every ship.

Is that because you're not winning the argument? Or because you finally see the error in your original idea?

That's a really lame corp policy.

Here's a thought: if you're looking for something new to train, you'll likely start seeing some great things coming with Ambulation on the way (planetary combat is on the horizon, I guarantee it...so is planetary ownership/management).

I support an Uber ship for Vets.
I think it should be Jovian. It's about damn time they introduced the 5th race.
When eve first came out, it was advertised that you would one day be able to convert your character to jovian. It's about time they made good on that.
I'd support a SUPER high skill req for it. Something only a 4+ year old vet could possibly have.

This is all thats needed tbh. Add another skill that requires specialization lvl 5. Say Large blaster spec lvl 5 as a prereq. Its all thats really needed. Dont need any fancy new ships or anything, just the ability to continue speccing with diminishing returns.
