Ive seen it for years, and some of them are funny to me but some of them are so annoying and downright offensive I wonder if anyone else sees this?
The workout videos that show full bright color images of models using their exercise machine with a big kool-aid grin on their face, then show the 'competitors' machine in black and white with fat lazy people who always seem to have back pain - FUNNY, I wish my world was lacking the color wheel when handicapped people are in pain!
Cheap homemade commercials who pay the cable network they are advertising on extra money so the network will play their ad louder - ANNOYING, if I had enough money I would buy all of your products and bury you alive in the mound of crap you produce while blasting your eardrums with mind melting scripture reading.
Any commercial that shows 'diversity' by showing people of two different ethnic groups working together or shaking hands at the end, with the closeup of the multicolored handshake - OFFENSIVE, stop promoting racism you idiots you are the cause.
The 'actual customer' gag... How many things will a hot trophy wife, the standard blue collar working man, the tough guy with tatoos, the stay at home mom, and kids all want to have? NONE! - FUNNY, anyone who sees these actors and thinks 'oh if [stereotyped target audience portrayal] uses it, maybe I should get it' should be fed turbo lax and sealed in a barrel.
Preying on the elderly by grabbing other elderly out of the retirement home and paying them to go on camera to convince others by using the old people's weakness: stern words. 'everyone should have life alert.' - OFFENSIVE, old people are the most stubborn people in existence but for some reason they will relate to others of the liver spotted wrinkly skinned type and give their hoarded three generation old money away to strangers instead of relying on their loved ones to take care of them.
The CEO who swears on a bible he is working so hard running his company not for a profit, but for you the customer! - FUNNY/OFFENSIVE, people like you lie through your teeth to save 35 cents. History has proven The only thing I see funny in this is that I know you will burn in your own self-damnation.
ATTENTION: if you or a loved one has died after being prescribed [drug of choice] you may be eligible for monetary compensation. - OFFENSIVE, you ambulance chasers are getting lazier by the decade and nothing has changed, you still thrive on other people's misery and see a dollar sign. Now you are just too lazy to actually chase the ambulance and want people to come to you.
The infomercial type that shows 'number sold' or 'time remaining' and wants you to call now! - FUNNY, last time i saw this there were the same exact numbers sold and 4 days have passed since your last countdown of 10 minutes left. I can only weep when I picture the morons in the trailer park "honey, git the phone! theyre gonna stop sellin that fancy towel thing in 6 minutes!"
Does anyone else actually see these commercials and wonder what is going on in the heads of the producers behind them? Are there people who actually get paid to inject these psychological tweaks into companies' advertising and think it will turn a higher profit?

Let me tell you a secret... ...the only way you see these moronic commercials is BECAUSE THEY WORK. Yes, people in general ARE that stupid to actually fall for it. Thank modern medicine, wellfare programs and crappy public schooling for creating generations of ever-increasing-percentually brain-washed morons.

I've seen quite a few of those.
I've got a little workout device at home, it's a wheel with handlebars that's supposed to work your abs. While I bought it at a store I saw a commercial where they showed the basic horrible version that's on a track and the person was struggling so hard to simply go back and forth then they show my version that seem to be able to work miracles across the floor plus you had the added bonus of moving from side to side.
Another one I like is that new easy bondo that you cut, mold, and place! It's impressive compound can hold up to 300lb's and then 4 seconds later they show you that it can pull a 3 ton truck.
I also dread the loud commercials since I tend to have my volume turned up already. Next thing I know my neighbors a quarter mile away know what I'm watching.
Luckily I don't watch tv too often but I do love my movies.

World-wide, maybe. Wanna' bet it's on the decline in most western countries but heavy on the uptake in less developed ones ? Nah, cancel that bet... I don't care either way... just too many stupid and/or incult people (or a combination thereof) for my taste either way.

Well, we have a limited form of Darwinian evolution based on social status. I mean, how often do people of wildly different social statuses marry and have kids ? Smart/rich people are drawn to smart/rich people, and dumb/poor people have nobody but similar people left to contend with.
One could almost fall for the whole "separation of humans in two subspecies in the not so far future" thingy... I mean, all it takes is to get the gap large enough so almost nobody from the "upper crust" will want to have anything to do with the "lower crust", and then apply separate types of selections on the two subcategories, and you have your separation right there. But naaah... too unlikely... still, there's a slight probability it might actually happen, depending a lot on both economic and social developements in the future.
Ok, I mean, seriously... assuming you're an above-average intelligence guy, with an average wealth... would you actually consider marrying a dumb, poor girl ? Rich and dumb, meh, tolerable... poor and smart, likewise. But poor and stupid ? Would you even DATE her if you were not desperate ?

Well, it WAS funny, agreed, and some sort of a warning... but overall, it couldn't possibly happen that precise way. The "upper crust" people wouldn't dissapear altogether, they would just get smaller in numbers but keep being essential to the survival of the species as a whole, equally appreciated and hated by the others "not like them", but kept in check by wealth-acquired "muscle"

Your standards of who is smart and worthy of dating aren't universal you know. Rich bimbos with a good upbringing have been taught a script from which they act with no reflection as to why whereas the poor one may just be a bimbo 'cause she's lacking the proper scripted responses you're used to.

Oh but it is when the person in question have been taught to think according to a certain pattern, which to someone viewing it from the outside is looking mighty stupid but from the first person view looks quite logical. There's nothing to say that person can't be taken out of that environment and perform above average if given the oppertunity but that's just it, humans are oppertunists and always go for the easy, this would mean actual work.

True, I was actually thinking something like that when I was writing what I wrote. Well more so that attractive, intelligent people are more likely to procreate, not necessarily the class division that you're envisioning.

heh heh, no. But I'm not an above-average intelligence guy with average wealth. Your point is probably even more true for the opposite sex in general though (unfortunately).

If anything, you could be talking about a "breaking" of the bell curve into two separate bell curves... the middle might still be in almost the same place, but give it enough time and it could drift apart, with an accelerating splitting. And yeah, like you said, this is only going on "recently"... or, like I said, since the start of the trend with universal healthcare, public schooling and lack of serious natural dangers.
I think survival of the fittest has been minimized, but not done away with. We had natural disasters, lack of socialized healthcare and all that before as well as people gettin with other people who they subliminally thought would produce good strong offspring. Now we only have the latter (for the most part).
I just find it interesting that Evolution still manages to happen, even with all these safeguards we've placed against it.

You know the really funny part about these types? They don't know squat about economics These CEO's will travel halfway across the country to buy something for a few bucks less, not realising that the fuel costs more than double what they've saved.
Quote: Does anyone else actually see these commercials and wonder what is going on in the heads of the producers behind them? Are there people who actually get paid to inject these psychological tweaks into companies' advertising and think it will turn a higher profit?
Washing powders that all seem to wash clothes better than their rivals. The really amusing part is that there are only two real companies in the UK, Proctor and Gamble and Lever Brothers who make all these washing powders so they are really comepeting against their own products.
Have you noticed though, the name may be completely different (or missing) on the "leading brands" packet they show you but the design of the packet implies a particular rival product? Grounds for a lawsuit if someone thought about it maybe?
Have you noticed the new "green" products are so environmentally friendly that they are even friendly to the dirt, grime and probably bacteria they are supposed to be washing off?
I used to get Descalite to remove the limescale in my kettle. It was made with Formic Acid and worked really well with one application, my kettle was gleaming like new. The new "environmentally friendly" versions take 3 or 4 applications and still don't even remove half of it. I guess the environment includes limescale
Advertisers are the biggest liars on the face of the earth. If an advert ever told the truth, nobody would ever buy the product. Imagine:
Quote: Buy a MacDonalds burger, it's packed with additives, preservatives and many other chemicals plus ground bone (they call it meal), 30% reject meat and minced intenstine, flavourings and not much more. Go on, treat yourself to a chemical meal today.
How appealing do you think that macdonalds burger is now you really know what is inside it? (Oh BTW, my first job was in a meat pie factory, I know what went inside those pies. Trust me, you'd never touch a pie again for the rest of your life if you knew. I don't eat them any more, Hmmmm... wonder why).

subliminal messaging and using secret symbols and specific geometric patterns and the likes to affect your subconciousness has been used for ages, the subliminal messaging through symbolism is in the company names, particularly in their logo's, and especially in the commercials and billboards and so on.
you can't drown it out.. because it affects your subconciousness, so wtf does it matter that you try to drown it out with your awaken conciousness?
but what you can do is that when you see it for what it is, you can recognize it conciously and react differently to it, thus voiding its negative and manipulative effect with an awareness.. "i see you, i know what you are trying to do, and now that i know.. then you are doomed to fail in your efforts, atleast on me.." but more importantly inform people about it and make an effort to get it stopped, so you can stop being bombarded with it, we got enough on our hands allready than to have to contend with that manipulative rubbish.. all it's doing is colouring our life and the way we think in the most negative way imaginable.. and we think it's cute.. and allright..

Does anyone remeber the electical stimulation abdominal waist bands that were touted to burn fat since they cause muscular contractions. The first time I saw that I was like the is blatant false advertisement. Passive muscular contractions do not burn calories one bit. It took many months to see them off the air, and another year until I heard that the government had brought up lawsuites for false claims.
I also love the statment "Said product has been rigourusly tested by scientific professionals" but they never say what University or Product Testing organiztion performed the testing and wether or not if they group was paid for the testing. I also hate the commercial for Hydroxycut with the meat head in the white coat that says Intern on it. Anyone that has experiance in hospitals knows that interns do not where whitecoats that lable them as interns.
I am an exercise and rehabilitaion professional and I get a massive sick feeling in my gut when I see these infomercials. A good number of them are great machines, even the roller MD was talking about above, but the plain fact is most people do not know how to properly use their body and these machines take proper biomechanical knowledge to get the results that are touted.
