House Rigel Crazy Frigate Race!
Currently in the pot: 15 million ISK courtesy of House Rigel More coming!
Click to enlarge race map. Race map coming soon!
Rules are subject to change, pending feedback from the previous race!
Where: Adacyne, Placid, Gallente Federation [0,5]
When: 20:00 game time on Wednesday August 20th 2008
Make sure you are in the system and in the FRIGATE RACE channel by 19:30 game time!
What?!: That's right, it's a tech 1 frigate race. Contestants are allowed to fly any tech 1 frigate, excluding faction and navy issues and all that fancy fun.
Entry fees? Yes. I have decided to implement a small entry fee. For now let's say 500 000 (five hundred thousand) ISK per contestant. Sent to me (Julius Rigel) before the race start.
Fittings are restricted to tech 1 modules, that means only the no-meta modules. No named modules, no faction or tech 2 modules etc.
The race will take place in a high security system. There is no warping involved in the race.
Why?: Because there's a lot of ISK in it for the winner. Coming out of my wallet and courtesy of our generous associates.
What's in it for me? I want to try my hand at organizing an event, and I believe it will be a lot of fun for everyone. In the future I hope to organize larger events with bigger pots, and maybe even get a little something back, but I wouldn't want to rush that.
To everyone who attended the race on Tuesday, thank you again, it was a lot of fun! And I would like you all to leave some feedback and suggestions for things I could do differently.

Race was a success. You dealt with everyone very well. I think longer tracks would be great... beats doing what I do lol

Yes the previous was very fun! I look forward to hosting this next one
The new track is a little bit more speed-friendly, I've set the recommended speed a little bit higher this time.
Hope to see a lot of people there on Wednesday!

Excellent! I'm looking into possibly hiring an official broker for the events, but personal betting on the races is encouraged until that time! Spectators are absolutely welcome, just make sure you show up in channel and system at the right time.

How about having a multi-classed race? A frigate race, a cruiser race, a Battleship race, even industrial race (freighter race? ). All on the same track? Like MotoGT has different CC classes... Just a thought ^.^ ____________________ I had a sig here, but I NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM nommed it... |

In fact as soon as my events start picking up in terms of number of participants, I will immediately start making multiple classes! Interceptors on the same circuits, it will be very interesting, and quite a challenge for all those overdrive junkies out there who have never heard of inertia
So tell all your friends, and bring them along to race, and soon enough we'll be hosting more events depending on attendance.

Great idea, I'll hopefully be there for the next race in whatever frig comes hand.
How about a (death)race where weapons are allowed, would that be cool or just silly? |

There is in fact a corp that does such a thing already, join channel "RACINGLEAGUE" to find out more

I love the idea of this event... in my opinion it is currently one of the few topics worth being in the "events" section of the forum. I'm afraid I won't be able to participate in the next race but I'll spread the word and donate a few ISK for the jackpot.
Keep it up and you might find me at your scratch line next time =)

Your words bring a smile to my face As you may notice, only a fraction of visitors to my little thread have bothered replying with anything! I look forward to seeing you in 'the grid' some time!

YAY congrats metalflak!
idea for next race: different ship rounds 1st-2nd rounds: shuttles All shuttles fly equally fast so the only factor would be player skill. 3rd-4th rounds: T1 Racers use a Tech 1 frigate of their choice fitted with T1 modules only

More ideas -Have rewards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. -Have the spectator area closer to the track, that is, all parts of the track less than 100 km away so the spectators can more easily view the contestants. |

Perhaps if you had stopped spamming in the official channel and paid attention for a few seconds you would have noticed that I clearly stated that racers must fly through the finishing grid.
We've had 5-10 contestants flying the tracks now, and testers and other parties, most of them had no problem with it. So unless the majority of people involved decide that the distance between containers is simply way too small to fly between, I guess you will just have to do whatever everyone else does to get it right!
But I thank you for the feedback, and I will keep it in mind. However you must also keep in mind that this is my event, and I make the rules, not the marshals, not the spectators or the competitors!

I was trying to get your attention in the FLEET channel, wher you said to talk in at the start of the event. This is not the offical channel so only fleet members saw it.
A few seconds? i was waiting 10-15 mins for you to even reply and i can conferm this with other people there... you also ignored other marshals and spectators.

on the first round you said i didnt go through the gate.. even though 2 marshals and 2 (maybe 3) spectators said i did go through so i dunno what you saw. - What everyone else does to get it right? i got it 'right'.. and WON.

If you make the rules then stick to them!
Also you said witch(another competitor) had 4 points and i had 3... then every marshal and most spectators said we was even.. so again i dont know what you was doing but you need to sort out your numbers.

Quote: I was trying to get your attention in the FLEET channel, wher you said to talk in at the start of the event. This is not the offical channel so only fleet members saw it.
I did indeed instruct everyone to keep chatter and comments in the fleet channel, so that all my announcements would be readily visible in the official channel.
Quote: A few seconds? i was waiting 10-15 mins for you to even reply and i can conferm this with other people there... you also ignored other marshals and spectators.
I immediately announced that you had not properly passed the finish line. That ruling was not up for debate. Next time pay attention when I announce misses and improper finishes!
Quote: on the first round you said i didnt go through the gate.. even though 2 marshals and 2 (maybe 3) spectators said i did go through so i dunno what you saw. - What everyone else does to get it right? i got it 'right'.. and WON.
What everyone else saw was your ship rebounding off the container after having approached it, I did announce before the race started that contestants must fly between the containers and not approach them like you did.
Quote: Also you said witch(another competitor) had 4 points and i had 3... then every marshal and most spectators said we was even.. so again i dont know what you was doing but you need to sort out your numbers.
I made an honest mistake, the marshals corrected that mistake, no harm was done.
Again I would like to remind you, it is not the job of the marshals, contestants or spectators to decide whether you pass the finish or not. As a competitor you pay attention to the rules, then you try as best you can to follow them, I understand that it may be hard for some to fly manually in eve, because it is not a common thing to do, and the race is set up so that you have some breathing room (simple penalties for missing checkpoints) and I make sure to announce right away whether a racer has passed the finish line properly or not.
If you would like to request that we enlarge the finishing grid, I would be happy to hear everyone's opinions on this subject. We could open up for discussion, and try to find a more suitable size for the grid.
