Edited by: Biolaja Tista on 13/08/2008 00:38:17 All other MMOs have reached subscriber number peaks and then started gradual, irreversible declines. Will EVE follow in that path or is it the exception to the rule?
In other words, will EVE follow CCP's prediction and continue going strong fifty years from now? And yes, CCP is on record stating they believe EVE will be around fifty years from now. _________________

Pretty much what I and other people were going to say, I don't think humans or at least society as it is will be around in 50 years time.

Edited by: Mankirks Wife on 13/08/2008 00:52:48 The fact that Eve is skill-based and not level-based, along with lateral-style progression has made it largely immune to the mudflation (in terms of zones and equipment) that ends up being rampant in every other MMO I've ever played after a while. Honestly Eve feels the most like a p&p game than any of the MMOs I've played, and they last a long, long time even if they don't appeal to many people. Of course, with a single game world Eve can be (and is) small but it doesn't feel small so all is well.
As long as CCP keeps making the right moves I don't see why it can't continue indefinitely - ambulation especially has the potential to open up an entirely new aspect of Eve. ---

If the world does not end in 2012 it will end in 2027, on August 7th. (137108) 1999 AN10 might hit the Earth.

I don't know about fifty years from now. Computers will probably be quite different by then.
I think fifty is a bit excessive, but I think Eve will be around longer than many other MMOs. Almost definitely ten years. Fifty years is a bit far to predict. Think about how far we've come since 1958 technologically. It very well may be around in fifty years, but unless it's completely rewritten several times, it will probably be woefully out of date.

I sure hope it is! But by then I fully expect we'll be piloting ships in a completely virtual reality New Eden. Put that on your list for future patches CCP.

id like to think im still playing eve in 50 years. but to be honest.. with a wedding looming on the horizon.. just how long am i rele going to be able to carry on playing :P
Eve itself.. hard to say, no reason why not.. (other than the emerging carebear ccp vision) but tbh.. if any mmo/online society can last.. its Eve

Depends. Most games don't undergo anything close to the sweeping changes EVE does, so it's very possible

So who here can imagine the awesome power that their character would be in 50 years time?
The down side though is that the whines for newbies not being able to compete would most likely be true.

Depends if the account is considered to be your property. Who knows what changes to virtual law will take place over the next 50 years.

Only your characters and even then they will still have to shell out the $20 transfer fee and the $19.95 for a new account to put it on.

Let me see... assuming no new learning skills come in, assuming I don't start PvPing too much so I keep the current implants, assuming no better implants come around, assuming charisma DOESN'T make a huge comeback and suddendly becomes much more important than anything else... I should be looking at over 1 bil SP in about 50 years.

Originally by: Grim Mercy the Mayan long-count calendar does in fact prophesies the end of the world on December 21, 2012
"There are also four rarely-used higher-order cycles: piktun, kalabtun, k'inchiltun, and alautun.
Since the Long Count dates are unambiguous, the Long Count was particularly well suited to use on monuments. The monumental inscriptions would not only include the 5 digits of the Long Count, but would also include the two tzolk'in characters followed by the two haab' characters.
The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar forms the basis for a New Age belief, first forecast by JosT Argnelles, that a cataclysm will take place on or about 21 December 2012, a forecast that mainstream Mayanist scholars consider a misinterpretation."
