Hi,
Whenever I log into eve, it usually takes 1-2 mins at the authenticating stage, from then its not so bad, tried lowering gfx settings etc.
my system:
Q6600 Quad core running at 2.8ghz 8800GT 2gb RAM - Crucial Ballistix 320gb - 10k RPM HDD
I am wondering whether its more a connection issue then my PC. I am with Virgin media,
On a friends pc's everything feels alot more smoother and login takes maybe 10-15 seconds, and my pc is 2 x as fast.
My friends runs a dual core at 1.8ghz, 1gb ram, onboard graphics.
Thanks,
Haxen

Try deleting/moving all the games logs and chat logs from the my docs/eve/ directory. If you have 1000s of files in there is can really effect the load time of Eve |

The cause of this is in the SETTINGS folder under root drive:\Documents and Settings\ <user name>\ Local Settings\ Application Data\ CCP\ EVE\ <eve folder>_eve_online_tranquility
If you rename the settings folder, ALL your settings will be gone, but the game will start superquick, as intended.
This is however obviously a bug, so I invite you to submit a bug-report. My ideas for the reason are: MARKET QUICKBARS OVERVIEW TABS
Would look that when you set those, the game starts taking forever upon connection.

I had slowdowns at authenticating stage some time ago, clearing cache (but they tweaked stuff in the network cache some time ago and it causes much less slowdowns because it's cleaning old useless stuff more often in some parts of the cache) and removing logs (game and chat) helped a lot.
Also, defrag helps if you don't want to delete all that (but you could just move them out of the places eve looks). Having a fast HDD is nothing when the data is messy on it!
It's fairly easy to check if the HDD light is on all the time you wait on authenticating. -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

It happens on a newly defragged drive too on two different clients (each with their own settings folder). One of them doesn't have very many bookmarks or overview settings because it's just a mission running alt. And yes the hard drive is merrily spinning away the whole time.
If I close a client (or it crashes) and restart it within a couple of minutes, this doesn't happen.
