That med extender wont do much. I would fit an invul or cap recharge.
Otherwise fairly good.

Caracals kinda hard to fit correctly.
I would recommend using 5 of the same launcher, heavy launcher, heavy assault, or assault. Heavy launcher is all-round the best option. Always use kinetics no matter what though.
2 ballistic controls since the Caracal is not a DPS monster and kind of needs it.
Mids get at least an afterburner though a microwarp is better, and some kind of ECM as a shield tank is impossible to fit, at least a buffer tank.
Rigs, not sure, something cheap, cause you are going to get blown up anyways.
Also, what are you fitting this for PvP or PvE? If its PvE you could save yourself a ton of trouble and train for a Drake, it doesn't take much longer and its a ton better. ------ I'll make a sig later. |

Edited by: Cautet on 15/08/2008 08:53:42 What is it for?
You really do not want two PDU on a caracal. Medium cap booster is just not nessasary unless for mission running. shield boosters for missions only. shield extenders usally for pvp only (I haven't run pve in carcal for long time so not sure on good pve setup). Getting rid of the unessary items (which all carry high fitting powergrid costs) lets you use all the same launchers at the top.
Use eve search - for pvp there have some very good setups posted in last day or so.
For pve heavy launchers are better. I wouldn't use an afterburner personally - for pvp use a mwd, for pve you are better off with more tank.
Edit: guy above me said pretty much the same thing - I take so long to type, bleh

I use the following:
[Caracal, PVE Setup] Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II
10MN Afterburner II Photon Scattering Field II Invulnerability Field II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II
'Arbalest' Assault Missile Launcher, Bloodclaw Light Missile 'Arbalest' Assault Missile Launcher, Bloodclaw Light Missile 'Arbalest' Assault Missile Launcher, Bloodclaw Light Missile 'Arbalest' Assault Missile Launcher, Bloodclaw Light Missile 'Arbalest' Assault Missile Launcher, Bloodclaw Light Missile
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Hobgoblin II x2
Gives me a 22K EHP buffer and 134 dps. Not great dps, but it does it out to 55km and it doesn't lose damage vs frigates. Adding range rigs takes it to where I can shoot farther than I can lock, and a bay loading accelerator rig adds a bit more dps also, though if you're going cheap you don't necessarily want to rig it.
This is about 15%-20% lower dps than using heavy missiles, but with heavies I can't fit nearly as much buffer on, so I prefer the slight dps loss in favor of bigger shields.
I've taken out BS's in a few missions and Cosmos plexes with this. Takes a while with the low dps, but it can do it.

Well I fit the extender due to lacking the ability to fit other things, and as it give sme 1k+ more shields, it gives me a larger buffer as well as better shield regen. Is there something better instead? It was designed to be rounded resistance, high shield regen, with a supplemental regen from shield boosting with a cap booster to support it.
I think I'll switch to an invulnerability field instead of the mag scat since I'll have the cap to run it from the cap booster.
with current set up, I get 1276 cap/293 sec regen, 2751 shield/962 regen.

Rocket launcher isn't going to do much for you. What types of fights will you be using this in? Big blog militia fleets or small gang?

yep, it was just an add on cause of a missing hi slot and nothing else good to put there, so maybe it would help deal with frigates or something. small gang to solo for sure. |

Except it takes like 8 defenders form a rocket launcher to bring down a torp. But maybe that was the point?
Also, arbalests on a CARACAL? Each launcher costs 3x more than the ship. Those 5 launchers make your caracal cost more than my T2 PVP rigged drake. Hell at THAT kind of cost you may as well rig the thing too.
Maybe if it was a Navy issue Caracal I could see the expensve but then you might as well REALLY splurge and get navy issue launchers too.

We are recruiting.

Reading comprehension FTW! Arbalest ASSAULT missile launchers -- cost about 400K each is all. The setup I posted costs less than 10m overall. 'Tis very cheap.

My mission running setup:
5x Arbalest Assault Launcher
3x Large Shield Extender (II or named) 2x Named or T2 Rat specific hardeners (Kin/Therm for me -> Gueristas)
2x Named or T2 Shield Power Relay
With the best named stuff can eat through lvl 2 missions in no time. If your skills are better then you can switch the shield power relays to BCU's for more damage output. If you loot lvl 2s then switch one shield extender for AB. ------------- Those who do not think about the future, might have none... |
