Just remember that they'll be shooting back now. And being Texas, they're most likely better shots.

Possibly the small armies of security guards and entrances festooned with metal detectors? I do not know if all US schools are like that but some of them are more like prisons.

Also a teacher who gets mad doesn't usually have a gun but if he has a gun on his person at the time he flipped in class he might very well use it.
And before the "teachers are civilised ppl who can do no wrong" how many teachers have assaulted pupils? in the UK one got prosecuted quite recently for ramming a fish head down a pupils throat, imagine if a maniac like that was carrying a weapon?
Maybe in LA. I have yet to see a school full of metal detectors. Theres maybe A SRO but that's about it.
And a truely ****ed off person wouldn't care what he's got in hand so a teacher could be just as likely to stab your child with a #2 pencil as he is to shoot him.
I'd be more worried about my child tapping the fine ass of a hot teacher than being shot by one.

Tbh im mixed on the subject...
I mean on one hand a teacher having a gun can stop a student shooting up a school more affectively then one without...
But on the other hand most of the teachers ive had were *****s and some might even wave the gun to get their kids back in line... Which also means if stretched too far they would probably act even more.... Rashly.

Really? So the best hope of stopping an angry/deranged/suicidal nutjob is a panicked/frightened/scared and poorly trained teacher with a pistol? Hes just as likely to kill and wound the other pupils instead of stopping the nutcase.
Where do people get the idea of normal citizens suddenly becoming Wesley snipes and rolling around the floor shooting up the class room shouting "hasta la vista mofo" and killing the bad guy before sticking a cigar in his mouth basking in the adulation of the people he saved?

You mean the teachters who get assaulted by chairs, knives and guns in the UK and then go to prison for defending themselves (disarming the student).

Uh huh, and an unarmed teacher would be more affective....How?
Obviously if it were my choice I would have the teachers take a mandatory gun test before being given one... Sure it might not be realistic and the teacher might choke but atleast the teacher has a chance of neutralising the troublemaker.

No the kid did not deserve it, he was a 12 year old boy and he was chasing other children around with a manky old fish head which fairly normal for a kid to do but instead of giving the child a typical punishment (lines, detention, letter to parents) and disposing of the fish head the teacher grabbed him in an arm lock and forcibly stuffed the fish head into his mouth, how can that ever be acceptable behaviour for somebody who is entrusted to take care of children?

There is no disputing that teachers do suffer abuse and assault from the pupils, I saw it many times myself when I was at school during the mid 90s the problem is the unlikelihood of a meaningful prosecution because of the poor state of the legal system. But these assaults and incidents highlight exactly why teachers should never be armed.
A teacher could be driven to his wits end and react badly to a relatively minor situation like the fish head incident, kids will always chase kids with yucky things but in this case a 12 year old suffered a traumatic assault for just being a kid. Yes teachers have to put up with things they shouldn't have to but that does not justify violent and unjustified action against other innocent pupils, saying that teachers shouldn't do the job is never the answer they probably have mortgages and families and its the system at fault for not recognising that the teachers are being pushed to wits end.
Giving overstressed and overworked people weapons would only make the situation a hell of a lot worse as it would end up in people losing thier lives.

Kid can do no wrong I - Violence in Bristol schools and assaults on teachers. If they can't keep control of these people now, imagine what those people will be doing a few years from now. This kind of behavior has to be tackled immediately and no excuse can justify it. It isn't going to get better by ignoring it or whining about it.
Kids can do no wrong II - "D, who had vision and mobility problems, was recorded as having multiple handicaps at the age of three and was known to lash out." Why was someone like that allowed in normal classes in the first place?
Kids can do no wrong III - Culture of violence and abuse in school. Unwillingness to tackle the issues firmly. If the prime minister refused to send his kids there, the issues at the school were well known. It was just a matter of time when shit hit the fan.
Kids can do no wrong IV - Cyber bullying . Whining is the word that comes to mind. Bullying has been around a while and I'm sure people know how to deal with it.
They need a no tolerance policy on violence and bullying. Those students need to learn that this kind of behavior will simply not be tolerated. Keeping them in line by threat of guns will not solve the problem, just keep it in check temporarily, in a optimistic scenario. I'm not so sure that might makes right is the best lesson these students need to learn.

No, like all school shooters, you'd just pick somewhere else that you know won't have guns. A nice mall, or maybe the school two blocks down the street. You wouldn't even consider this school, because you knew that the moment you started a commotion, there'd be armed teachers spilling into the halls looking to exercise the shit out of their right to bear arms.
An armed society is a polite society.

First off the article said that the teachers would have to go through mandatory crisis mangament training which will include heavy gun training.
Secondly, it is not AMERICA it is one district in Texas, US. America is 2 continents people.
Thirdly, to all the Europeans continuously bashing the US gun laws, you all can not even control your crowds at football games so do not try to tell the US citizens that we are the only ones that are FUBAR because we all are.

I agree, I don't like football much so I do cringe when I see hooligans wondering the street chanting their team names. Although, are you honestly comparing that to what's going on in the US with gun laws? ------------------------------------------

It is not a direct association. The association is violence and our inability to control certain individuals.
Top 10 countries for Death by Murder...guess who is not in the top 10 IF you read this paper you will find that the European region has a suicide rate that rivals our murder rate and a murder rate that rivals our suicide rate. Do you know what that means? A simialar amount of people are dying, which is a natural course. It can not be stopped completely.
Yes we have some of the worst cities, I live in one of them, but our population is so much higher and violence is part of our nature, guns or no guns we will find a way to kill each other.
The EurAsian continents have countries that genocidaly wipe out people due to nationalism and sectarianism and certain, unnamed hooligan groups, are the prime movers in these groups.

Yeah there are not 1000's of people getting shot up in schools, yes in the whole country but not in schools.
Innocence More Innocence
You know why we do not have problems like this at football games in the US, because most of us have in the back of our heads the thought that there may be someone with a gun around us. It helps keep many of us in check.
I had more, but it ate my original post, so I will make this one short. The US is much larger then most of the EurAsian countries, and some of our largest cities populations out number many countries in EurAsia, so if you all can not control your people then what makes you think that your ideas would work any better over here.
Murder accounts for only .7% of the national death rate. People dieng from the results of over eating and lack of activity is a bigger problem.
EDIT: Switched European to EurAsian

I don't see what is wrong with this. Teachers are not being ISSUED firearms (unless the article is incorrect)- they are being ALLOWED to bring THEIR concealed weapons with them if they so choose, and are required to undergo extensive training. This sounds like a good idea to me.
Also, to all the people going LOLOL ONLY IN AMERICA 1. Get off the bandwagon 2. Make a constructive post of why this is a bad idea- that way, you don't look like a ****ing idiot who can't back up his post. 3. Read the article. Judging by many of your posts, it seems like you either don't read it or misread it.
