The very political nature of this game requires the CAOD forums to be the cesspool they are.
In a game where losses are permanent and territory ownership is dynamic, there has to be a political outlet and CAOD is that outlet.

The player who made these ratings;
has never raided in WoW
has never been in a player alliance in EvE
has never had clan matches in CSS
is rather inexperienced in all the games he tried.

Edited by: Lindsay Logan on 16/08/2008 12:25:06 I pretty much stopped using the forums, because they where full of crap :/. I sometimes read up on them, but its the same crap from week to week unfortantly.
I know it can be "fun" to talk shit about others and such, but in the long run, its boring. In truth I find it much more enjoyable to have a good serious disucssion and good harted talks then shit talks.
When I do want to let go of some steam I go to 4chan, since 4cahn is just a bucket of shit (at least /b/ is), and thats ok, it serves a purpouse.
So I agreee with your idea of being kind. :P
In game tho, I have only good experiances :)

I disagree to what the trashpaper author wrote.
I played WoW a long timettinge, beside its childish graphic style theres nothing friendly on most servers, though there are some nice guids and nice player, but if u are not part of the guild u get ganked (not a bad thing) and body camped (a very bad thing). Asking for help leads to getting told "go get a guildthey help u noob".
Talking about Eve i had some Problemswith the first scrambling enemies. I asked in the newbie help channel and the answer was: -I got told the items wich can help me -"W8 im only 11jumps away im gonna go and help u with the mission". -"try urlofarticleaboutelectronicwarfare if u wanna know more about it"
CSS:LOL Counter Strike and Source are the most ugly Games i know. WEll...if u got a nice clan (average age should be about 12years*g*) its a hole other thing and it gets nice.
The answer to "how do i get a friendly enviroment" is simple: Get a Guild/Clan/Corp and u will have friendly people around u. Without a Corp, Eve is still better than almost every mmorpg i played before. I never encountered that much of kind help before.

Good read and thank you for the link.
I am realatively new to the game and this is the first forum that I have ever been a part of. I made one post a long time back, General Discussion, and got massively flammed by one guy and to this day I learned my lesson in that post. I tyry to be helpfull, when I flame I try to do it in a tactful and "smart/clever" way, if that is possible, and I never take personal offense to what others say. If by some chance I get heated, I pull back and do not post for awhile if at all, depending on the subject.
That all being said I think that flaming is a symptom of a larger problem. People, now adays are treating others in the real world with less and less respect, and I am guilty of this also. Then when you take others, who may or may not recieve less respect then most inthe real world, give them something that they love to fight for with the anonimity of an online game, they will flex there "e-pen" with force that they would typically not exude in the real world.
That all being said, if the original author had read the New citizens forum I bet he would have found a very nice, helpfull, and efficient forum. Quite honestly I think that forum more accurately represents the player base as opposed to COAD.
The only solution is that we learn to start respecting people they way we would expect others to respect your loved ones. This may be hippy, panzy, weak, and idealistic, but I tend to try to follow the path created by the Ancient Eastern Philosophers. Think and act like monks.

The 'hatred', drama and hostile behaviour are CAOD's only redeeming features!
What makes it a cess pitt are the spam threads/posts (the rickrolls, the 'first' posts, the universally unfunny 'joke' threads, the one liner put downs etc)

1) 30,000 peoplw playing in the same room will bump off each other alot more than 3,000
2) The intensity people bring to this game versus others (which can lead to "heated" debate) is mainly because EVE is one of the few games where it feels like what you do matters. And while thats a good thing, it can lead to strong words from those you do it to ______

lol, CAOD is too 'mean'.
And the WoW forums as friendly? Also lol. The General WoW and Arena/PvP forums are like the constant wailing, screaming, and crying of millions of snotty overweight thirteen year olds. If there is some hell for me, it'll be being moderator of that forum for all eternity - and I can't imagine anything worse

I think really the only problem with the CAOD is that the shitpoasting, though it's hilarious at times (like watching a car accident), got to the point where it's pretty hard to find something useful there. And realistically speaking, if you're looking for unbiased political news, GBBS still exists in some form. The fact that someone can get paid to make 'studies' like this with no research design, empirical scale, or any other binding element makes me feel better about my own job prospects though.

It would be a lot more disconcerting if the EVE forums were NOT filled with anger posting on CAOD.
If in WoW, when I killed a night elf rogue, I took all of your stuff and perma-camped you out of ever getting back to where you wanted to go, I bet WoW forums would be just as insane.
EVE provokes emotion, unlike WoW/GW and that is not a terrible thing. Or is the breaking news that enemies dislike each other? Oh wow, thanks for the memo. Yeah, let's all hold hands and get along in a game that is supposed to breed conflict and competition. --

I admire your bold gesture but I'm afraid in an online game that not only allows but REWARDS and ENCOURAGES sociopathic behavior is probably not the best place to find a friendly atmosphere.
