Alright, my first post in this forum so go easy on me please, but this is something that has been bothering me for a while now so here goes.
Currently in game when a Dreadnought enters siege it is indicated by some sort of a change in the ship itself when viewed with turret effects turned on. This ranges from a very obvious extension of the guns on a Rev to very obscure changes on the Phoenix and Moros if you are not very familiar with the ships themselves. Afaik the siege changes date back to when dreads were first introduced, and while it is a pretty neat way of doing things, it can sometimes be very hard to tell when a dread has entered siege, and if you are outside of looking range (such as being cloaked off the dread fleet at a pos) it can sometimes be practically impossible.
Many people have heard at least some varation of:
Scout: Ok dread outside of station xxx now FC: Alright, is it in siege? Scout: In what? FC: Siege.. Scout: I dunno, how do I check? FC: Um, well what kind of dread is it? Scout: Its a phoenix Most of the gang: ****. Fc: uhh.. I dunno I think that one doesnt have one Guy 1: No, some of the thingies do some stuff on the top Guy 2: I thought the guns popped out on the top thingie? Guy 1: what? Guy 3: You are thinking of the naglfar I think Scout: Ok the dread docked FC: ****.
Anyway Proposal: Just add something effects based and obvious so people can tell if the siege module is active or not. You can even reuse something you have already written, we dont care that much. I kind of like the idea of just using the armor rep animation but making it red instead of green or something. Should be minimal effort but make things a lot simpler in game.

Loth, man! Calm down, jeez
I think it would be a good idea, in the way that I think alot more information needs to be known (at least for active modules) of each ship of what's going on, or at least some consistency.

make it the webber animation, but silver rather then green. radiant EM field etc.. - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

I support this post ENTIRELY. however, this should also be implimented, with the transforming sound from the '80s show. since that would be win of the purest form.

Edited by: Jaketh Ivanes on 18/08/2008 13:22:53 Don't know if this has changed since last I saw a dread, but doesn't their guns get pushed out when they are in siege?
It's clearly shown when you look at the dread.
EDIT: In general, we need a launcher "turret" animation. Always wondered why there were no missile launcher ports on a ship with missile launchers.

Rev/Moros' guns get stabilized, Phoenix shifts the armor and pushes the turret slot out, I don't know what the heck Naglfar does (probably stays still as to not break).

To clarify, there is an animation when a dread enters siege, but it differs a lot between dreads. A revelation is very easy to tell (the guns pop way out), Naglfar a little less so, but for a Moros or Phoenix it can be super difficult to tell, especially if you are out of look range.
What I was proposing was simply a unique effect for siege that is easier to detect. (Triage already has one)

Wouldn't that kinda ruin the surprise? If I were going into Seige, I wouldn't want my targets to know. :P
Simply put....when in doubt in regards to a Dread, assume it will go into Siege and omfgwtfpwn.

Its very simple to tell. Does the dread look like your mom, or does it look like your mom when you forgot to take out the trash? |
