Edited by: Revolution Rising on 18/08/2008 16:18:28 Anyone seen that WOW forum/website (I think it's a java app or similar) thing where you can mouse-over your epics or other items and it will actually display the item properties.
I wonder if eve has a website database like this at all ?
Edit: I know places like Battleclinic have it for ship fittings where you can mouse-over and it will tell you the basic fitting name, but I don't think (from memory) that it showed any properties.

What is that.. WOW..
But.. i don't know of any (public) site that does that. However the great thing about EVE is that we get data exports to create those things if we need them. |

Edited by: Pyrran BusKirk on 18/08/2008 19:23:57 Yes I've seen (and used) something like that before.
One public site (for WoW) that uses it is allakhazam - it's a little app called "itemstats" originally developed for eqdkp I believe linkage. An enhanced (albeit untested by me) version is available at sourceforge.
Adapting it to a more eve oriented function using the static data export shouldn't be too hard. Bear in mind that the static export doesnt have every piece of information concerning items and would at best merely show the defaults for various item properties - e.g. ME/PE values for BPO's, etc.
Good Luck ;)

I can't understand from your post, what exactly you want? If you want module stats, battleclinic has them all, just click any module and it will open window with stats. If you want to see stats in popup window... it's unrealistic for EVE. Some modules, and especially ships, have tens of parameters. Literally tens. Hybrid weapon: 30 attributes, Shield Hardeners: 30, ships: near 100!!! |

Yeah I think in WOW it was itemstats that I'm referring to (rings a bell but has been many years).
I found the EvE Item Database website but not really quite nice enough for what I wanted. Guess I'll have to code it or wait for someone else to ;)

As the gent above pointed out the particular software for WOW is called "Itemstats" which can give you a really nice finish for website stuff when referring people to particular in-game items (even with modified weapons/armor and gems for instance), but as you also rightly point out there are a LOT more differences on particular items in EVE sometimes.
Would be a huge task I'm guessing.

What's wrong with it? That layout took me days you know
As Tonto correctly pointed out though, the sheer number of attributes in some items would make mouse-overs impractical. You could try and cut out the non-essentials but even on ships, you would be looking at a massive area of the screen devoted to the pop-up.

heh, no offense was intended ;)
I was just after something local to the server. Am trying to insert Bellatroix's EvE Assets atm and see if that does the job I am after ;)

Well if you don't have any luck with finding something suitable, shoot me an eve-mail. I do really need to give my DB a facelift and if you have some ideas, maybe we can put our heads together and come up with something?

Sure, although I am working (and burned out from) other non-eve projects at the moment, I wanted someone to have done all the work for me! :)
(And I make no apology's for it ;)).
Don't get me wrong, I thought your site is pretty sharp and still a good way to link to items imo. Was just after something slick I could do to MY site to link items.
Doing ME/PE calcs on the fly for blueprints might have to wait for the API update (that is sorely lacking atm) for blueprints in all likelihood. I was just fishing ;)
I think (from long long ago) from memory the itemstats that WOW websites used had a java app that you loaded for each page and then some kind of item search that could be added to the page. It was very nice, in any case and you could mouse-over an item and see all the stats. Usually the popup did take up quite a bit of room, but once loaded the app was quite fast.
I doubt it'd be hard to create something like it for eve with the API and a link to specific items in your own assets or a particular item in the stock standard item DB.
Until the API is updated to allow for differences between BPO's and BPC's i guess you'd just say "This is a BPC" when pointing at it... hrm... wouldn't have to be modified for later API changes too much I'd imagine.
But then Java isn't my bag ;)
I'll stick to Bellatroix's asset sheet for the moment ;)
