Hi there,
i was in the fleetbattle in C-F in the vale of silence and i can say that this was the most horrible fight i ever had. 20 minutes to jump into a system, 5 min. until you change direction or can activate any module. MWD's couldnt be deactivated.
There was some guy in a Muninn at a gate, i clicked approach, finaly the ship accelerates after 5 min. but i couldnt stop, orbit him or activate any other module. Finaly my cap was dry and my ship stopped 150 km behind him.
Well, i really like this game... there is nothing similar on the market but this is just ridiculous. Make some movies about that so newer player can see what eve really is, because all the other videos are just fake and you will "never" have a fight like shown there.
Thanks for reading |

This is why I will never join an Alliance. I dont care if alliance life is the "end game" of eve, I get more challenging pvp in high and low sec WITHOUT the crippling lag. |

Please dont speak if you don't know wtf you're talking about, he is obviously talking about serverside lag which is huge during fleet battles.
To the OP, learn to live with it, the opposite side had the same more than likely |

Lag is bad, ok we all know, move on.
How about NOT activating your MWD next time when you KNOW there is 5min modul lag. Sry to say it but....NOOB.
Sure, lag is bad and all, but it could as well be an "environmental" element to consider right? Lets call it subspace-distortion. Learn to DEAL WITH IT, its part of 0.0 and will not go away. Coming here starting a tread every 2 days complaining will not solve your problem. If you want to play out there, do what others do: ADAPT. If you dont want to: go back to empire (lowsec) and play there, enough possibilities for everyone. |

I think if CCP advertise this game as the "best spacemmo with huge battles in space" like they obviously do with all the videos they spread around the web, it would be nice if we could actually see something of that ingame. Currently big fleetbattles are broken and it makes me sick that CCP produces more and more videos... this is just a big joke. I just want to let the newbies know what eve looks like if u want to participate in the fleetbattles. 0.0 warfare is horrible atm and some trolls in here wont change that fact.

I'm sure whack-a-mole in space is high on CCP's priority list.
Actual epic fleet battles would require a total rework of the game mechanics, the lag just hides that fact. |

Epic fleet battles in eve ,you only see them on CAOD.
When you are in it ,you always think this is not what i want.
But i remember a patch think it was 1,5 years ago ,before that patch 250 vs 250 didn`t lag much. After that patch ,50 vs 50 was already lots of lagg. That patch screwed fleet battles.

signed, it looks like that ccp programmers copy paste some old later fixed classes back into their code, so the lag raise again and some other things broke again.... (dont invent the wheel new, but use the latest update ...) |

Been in that fight - took me 1:30 hours to ge to C-F, wich was 2 jumps off.
When I finally loaded grid - it was all over.
Granted I have been in fleet battles before and it ussualy sucks. 200 ppl in local - kinda playable, 300+ forget about it. It lagged 3 systems wide. |

Crumple;
Oh it's definitely high on their list, an organization doesn't invest so much of its time, money, and people on solving an issue with a new infrastructure unless they're committed to solving the problem.
Yeah lag is bad, we've all seen it. Occasionally the clouds part and you're one of the chosen few unlagged people. Cherish those moments, for they are few and far between.

Edited by: Anvalor on 20/08/2008 11:36:30 I am so glad that i am not in a big alliance were the fleets have 100 pilots in them or more. Small gang warfare is the best in eve. You can have 20 vs 20 or 30 vs 30 and even have sound and all effects on and still no lag or only very short delays.
People who join big allys and then whine about the lag should not blame ccp but themselfes. If CCP would/could do something about the lag. more people would be in the fleets and the lag would be there again.

I was in that fight. After a while I just logged out - 20 minute response times = no point.

If you want bigger fleetbattles to work ask you alliance leaders to make sure they get a dedicated node for that system.

Lag won't fade in EVE till CCP re-codes the server side engine for the following:
1) Multiple Servers hosting the same Node (Super-node reinforcement) 2) Ability for the game to detect the need and automatically allocate additional CPU resources for nodes that are over-taxed. (Currently it's a manual process that GM's have to do and usually requires a Downtime to fully take effect)
Until this happens we will continue to have horrible lag in EVE during large fleet fights. Unfortunately it would take a massive re-write of the SERVER SIDE engine, not just the client. Fleet combat lag has very little to do with the client (yes, SOME of it can be alleviated with proper overview settings, etc, but the vast majority of it is totally server side. Even if they do re-code the server side engine I'm not even sure if current technology would allow multiple systems to support a single node.
Right now, under most circumstances, multiple nodes are handled by a a single server. A Reinforced 'node' is simply a node that has a server to itself (like Jita). Obviously they can't do this for every star-system and from what I've gathered when they put nodes into reinforced during Tortuga it doesn't REALLY start working till after Downtime anyway (probably a lot of resources don't really off-load from the server till it's restarted).

Too much potential for abuse. Say you want to run an alliance-wide mining op. Just announce a "planned" fleet engagement in the target system where you know the enemy doesn't show up.
Or it could be used to gather intel -- if your home system is performing above the norm, it could indicate an incoming fleet. Or misdirection -- announce to CCP an attack in one system, but attack another. Targets of opportunity change, after all.
And that's not accounting for the distrust of the devs. Meta-spying is already a legit tactic in alliance warfare. What if your supar-seekrit battle plans fall on the desk of someone with a character in the territory you're going to attack? Do you trust them not to slip out an off-band hint to their mates? Or maybe they just reinforce that node with the Jita server. Or they do nothing, and then have to play with their brothers-in-arms knowing they have withheld vital intelligence.
The real solution is an automated reinforcement system with load-balancing routines in place should performance hit a certain level. I don't know all the specifics of their technology, but I'm pretty sure a server at 95% load for over a minute should be able to scream "SOMETHING'S WRONG" and get some instantaneous backup rather than wait for a dev to notice a red spot on the map. |

The real solution here is to have options to turn graphics and effects off and to much lower settings.
Take these three things: 1:repping and boosting graphics 2:shaking effects 3:weapon animations
Toss these and there would be a fraction of the data to deal with on the players' end. There should be options to turn off every feature until you are almost at wireframe levels if need be in order to limit the load on the end users' machines and connection.
Better yet, a button that switches you into low-res/fleet battle settings? |

I dont get lag. Only if the node crashes, but that takes A LOT of shit going down. Other then that Ive been fine with 500-700 in system all on grid pew pewing eachother as long as i have my brackets set, and my graphics appropriately tuned since my machine isnt exactly latest tech.
