Hello,
I have a dell latitude D830 laptop that I am trying to run the linux eve client from. My ADM64 at home runs eve without problems, also using gentoo linux.
After unzipping the eve client software eve-000066.tgz from root I run the eve command to try and launch the starter kit. A window flashes on the screen for a fraction of a second then disappears. My terminal window does not return to the command prompt and there is no obvious signs of disk or network activity.
Here is some info about my system.

I have tired reinstalling python and python related packages on my system to fix the versions warning but that doesn't change. Any ideas what I should do next?

I had to unmerge everything python and then emerge again.
Did the trick.
make sure you do a revdep to.

Thanks for the reply Odhinn. I'll give that a run. I know there was a package order issue for some other things but python-updater and revdep-rebuild didn't seem resolve that specific error.
Other then that warning there doesn't seem to be any error log for me to check so all I know about the problem is that a window flashes up then vanishes before it renders more then a boarder

Here's the output of revdep-rebuild. Python-updater has no output any more.

So I discovered the problem is not with the game itself but rather the updater. Last night after work I tried to log in on my home machine. I'm at work again so in general the box is an AMD64 with 4Gigs of memory and Nvidia video cards.
Anyways, last night the same problem happened at home. I typed eve on the command line, a little window flashes up for a second, then is gone and nothing happens. Since the problem was reproduced on another machine I was able to do a little more troubleshooting.
The problem is related to this script :
python /data/eve/.updater/cedega_updater.py -GAME EveOnline-linux
Whatever it is trying to do didn't work. By killing that process the game continued to load properly on my home machine and i was able to play.
It would appear I am having trouble running the update scripts before game launch.
