I want to build a DPS based Raven. I would like to use it on L5 missions and/or 0.0 ratting. Was thinking of a Torp build since I can use T2 drones on Frigs.
Anyone have any ideas or tried this in the past? I'm not particularly worried about tanking since there's 3 other people with me that can tank.

Missile range rigs + T2 launchers, switch between T1/faction and javelin ammo as needed, add a painter or two just in case, fit plenty of BCSs, try to shove an afterburner in if you can, works just fine.

If you want serious damage, Torps are the only option, Cruise have just too little damage in comparison, and are also subjected to defender fire (torps aren't, they need 3 defender hits on same missile to get shot down, and that practically never happens against NPCs).
Assuming reasonable skills (all relevant at L4) and no rigs, you're barely getting around 23-24km out of your T1/faction torps. With maxed skills and rigs, while using Javelins, you're looking at over 65km however. So, if your missile range skills are low and you can't or won't use missile range rigs, you might want to go with cruise missiles instead... dealing a bit of damage constantly beats dealing no damage most of the time due to you being out of range. But if you have great skills and the proper rig setup, torps all the way.

I haven't messed with Torps for about the last year. All my missile skills are either 4 or 5 so I should be good on that front. I'll look into a painter... any need for a sensor booster to get more range?

You can't even get enough range on the weapons to match the base targeting range of the ship, what good do you think a sensor booster would do ?

I asked about the sensor booster because I saw it on a battleclinic build... didn't make sense to me.

edit: lol read the whole op post nvm poudly annoying fc's since 2007

0.0 ratting can easily be done with torps. Level 5 missions though - I dunno about THAT one. Never heard anything approaching kind about those missions and I suspect the tiny range of torps will make the mission an exercise in frustration. Having myself never tried to do a L5 mission, I have nothing to offer there. Level 4 missions however can be done with torps.

Here's what I'm thinking;
High Slots: Siege Missile Launcher II Siege Missile Launcher II Siege Missile Launcher II Siege Missile Launcher II Siege Missile Launcher II Siege Missile Launcher II Empty Empty
Mids: 100MN Afterburner II Target Painter II Target Painter II Invulnerability Field II Large Shield Extender II Large Shield Extender II
Low: Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II Ballistic Control System II
Rigs: ?
Unsure of what to throw in the Rig slots. This set up with my current skills does over 4k Volley dmg. Has 15k shields which is enough for me to align and warp out if I run into trouble.

rigs can be 3 X field extender , drop two BCU for two Power diagnostics and the AB for an MWD and add a Heavy Neut and it looks fine for 0.0 ratting as long as you watch local carefully.
More than 3 BCU and you dont get much out of them, PDU gives more shield/cap/powegrid etc The heavy Neut can quickly force an enemy interceptor to disengage the MWD is for getting back to gates quickly
Hope that helped

Put in missile velocity rigs or drop the AB and shield extenders and put on cap rechargers and a shield transporter. Stick near the tank and make yourself useful. But seriously, more people should have some type of spacer in their sigs to show it's not part of the post.

I need to keep the AB since this is being used on L4 & L6 missions as group support dps

Okay edit build above. I don't really need a PDU since I'm not overly concerned with tank ability. I added in 3 rigs. Per EFT this will give me a torp range of around 30k... 40k if I had all V skills. It will move at 356 m/s so that may be good. If I go ratting I'll just swap the AB with a MWD.

The "other" one (Bay Loading Accelerator I) is half a Ballistic Control System (the RoF part only) and is stack-nerfed with the rest of the BCS RoF bonuses... and as such, almost completely pointless.
Hydraulic Bay Thrusters I is one of the two T1 missile range rigs (Rocket Fuel Cache Partition I is the other).

That also costs twice as much calibration so 2 of those and you cant have a third rig.
But then again 1 bay loader and 2 thrusters = win

I could be wrong but isn't one major feature of L5 missions the fact that you basically warp in then get neuted to death?
I was under the impression that it was the norm to send in a passive tank to get aggro first.

My thinking is that tractor/salvage range is 20km regardless, so I build a simple perma large SB setup with an AB + painter and cruise right up next to them and pew pew. Range is great and all if all you care about is bounty, but if you want to salvage the spare two highslots and the AB will help you out quite a bit. ________

Edited by: Omarvelous on 26/08/2008 20:10:15 Fly cheap and in a team for a level V - you should have logistic support so just get yoru resists up.
6x Torp II
2x resistance Mods Target painter 3x Large Shield Extender II
4x BCU II DCU II
3x Resistance Rigs (cheaper than extender rigs - up to you what you prefer).
Don't bother with an AB. You will be firing tech 2 torps - most bad guys will drift into your range - and afterburner on Caldari BS is a waste of time consider how slow you still go and accelerate.
Just tank up passively - grab aggrro - have your buddy in an osprey/basilisk rep you up. __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! Destry's Lounge is looking for a few good drunks - contact me in game.

Again I'm not worried about my tank.. just wanted high dps. For rigs I'm using two Bay Thrusters and 1 Fuel Cache. I'm keeping the AB as it will allow me to get in range much easier. I'm sure I'll tweak it after my first L5 in this. I'll post what I find out. 4K a volley dmg seems fairly good at about 30k.
