spys, spys and more spys. what the **** has become to game called EVE. nothing is anymore surprise to anyone. but digging up all of other alliances and such + including even rl phone numbers addresses etc. should be bannable offence. and infiltrating teamspeak to crash it on a certain moment. that is a CRIME! do something before people start to take these things to court. and i promise it will start to happen.
CCP needs now to start thinking about this. |

Uh huh.
Spying has been around since the beginning. And I'm also sure that the serious alliances (or at least their leaders) have been giving each other their phone numbers for a while. |

there are no spys like there was no sparta
spying in the game is another porfession btu you have to be in a alliance in a long time to do anything of perminent damage as you need to work up the leaderships ladder |

I don't know anything about how criminal that stuff is, but acquiring peoples' account information and posting their phone numbers or addresses already are bannable offenses. As for crashing TS... since it isn't part of the Eve client and doesn't affect the Eve client CCP can't really regulate it or punish people for crashing it. |

Bah - my former alliance got alliance forum hacked and holding company forum hacked.
Thats kinda when game stops being a game. Whatever is possible in game, I take it as game mechanics. Spying included.
When spys join my corp, dig for info related to game - I can understand that. You do what you do to win in battlefield.
Posting peoples phone numbers, hacking forums, posting dirty laundry on public forums. That I dont get.
Most of population in EVE is 25-30 years of age in average. This kind of behaviour strikes me as childish and petty. But then again when boss is raping you, wife is making your life hell and your teenage daughter just got a new piercing, on her va*ina, bank is calling about second mortage - you just have to feel like your better then someone. Even if that means geting lower then you allready are. |

At the op: CCP need to do jack shit.
What people do outside the game is none of their Problem. If i go and post an alliance leaders phone on /b/ why should i get banned?
You really need to get a ****ing clue.

Depends if that information is in any way given out via chat inside EVE or on the EVE website then it becomes CCPs problem as their products are being used as a media for the illegal distribution of personal information without consent. Other than that CCP has absolutly no obligation (nor should they) to police what is posted on outside forums even if they are related to EVE |

The out of game stuff is pretty lame. People seem to forget they are playing an internet spaceship game. Spying on TS is one thing, but the RL phone numbers and pix is rather overboard. And people say the WoW crowd is a bunch of immature kiddies. Lolz. |

Seeing as ts is an oog program used to gain an advantage in eve, i dont think anyone using it has a leg to stand on when they get spies tbh. Similarly things done on irc or forums are none of ccps business and if people want to use oog stuff to play eve its their own risk.
What exactly could they do in any case? Someone crashes a server which has absolutely nothing to do with them, why should they care? Somebody steals personal information on a forum which is nothing to do with them, why should they care?
In fact the things people do to have security on ts, forums etc (checking ips whatever) could be considered an exploit, as they could use oog mechanics to avoid in-game (and very much allowed/encouraged by ccp) infiltration. |

Trust is a finite resource, that people are only too willing to give up.
Then again, there are actions that, because of EVE's harsh "winning conditions", border upon illegality.
CCP or no, that in itself isnt the internet (where "everything goes for the lulz!") anymore, thats just wrong, and in some countries, totally illegal and criminal. |

This. Ever been on a massive alliance forum? 99% of the posts are shit and completely useless. Don't say anything completely dumb and don't put out important personal info and you won't have a problem. |

hahahah, great post:) i can imagine these people huddled over their computer in the dark, sweating nervously and mumbling some random nonsense about getting back at the other side. all while thinking of all the shit in their life that drags them but applying it towards some guy in a corp on the other side of the world taht couldnt give a crap less about the person they podded last night. |

Hacking accounts, or forums, and so forth is taking it way past the game though. Those are bordering on illegal, you know, RL like, and can come with severe repercussions.
However, if thats what you are willing to risk, over a simple game, hey... thats your issue. Seeing your PC get confiscated by the police would be a truly great Youtube video moment however. |

Meh, just get on with it. Spies are natural. It's a game, but it's also warfare. On top of my head I can't think of a single war (in modern time, but I guess the same goes for ancient ones as well) where people weren't going by the ****, pillage, plunder theme.
Considering we're all from different nationalities here it'd probably be unwise to mention a particular conflict, but just take one we (people) were all involved in. WW2. As far as I know there were people breaking 'humanitarian' rules on each side. And people still are, more or less.
Not to mention it's quite natural about spies not only in wars, but also in the industrial sector, for example.
There's counters to spying, spies, and there's noone stopping you from spying back. If they 'outspy' you, your loss, they wanted to win more than you did. Getting access to your forums, data dump, stream and record your voice coms, etc? Perfectly legal in most countries I'm aware of, it's "only" metagaming, nothing bad here either.
Tho, when we're talking hacking, ddos, attacks on servers, deliberately trying to kill off voice coms and forums etc.. that's a real life crime in most countries I can think of (again on top of my head). So, there's one potential criminal act going on.. and here's the fun part, it's not even done on CCP's server, nor condoned by them! So, the irony is, your (the OP) original post is pointless.
CCP has no responsibility whatsoever when it comes to criminal acts occuring outside of their game, and metagaming is just a way to get ingame advantages. Just suck it up and adapt. |
