I always wondered about that boot.ini disaster and what steps led up to it. To this day I have no idea why there is code relating to boot.ini in this game whatsovever.

Was a typo in the patch installer IIRC causing them to remove the wrong boot.ini.

If I remember correctly, there's also an eve file by the same name, and the problem was they didn't specify the location for the deletion of the old version, hence it took out the system file. I think they changed the name of the Eve version since then.
Or I might just be imagining the explanation because I didn't get much sleep last night. But I think that' roughly the story.

It was explained in a blog I read where they thought the boot.ini in the game folder was specified, unfortunately it revered to the system boot.ini due to a coding issue that did not come up in the lab. The old boot.ini was not needed so a command to DELETE it was issued. Bye bye OS.

Very simple, they deleted \boot.ini instead of boot.ini. So anyone who installed the game on their windows install drive was fekked. Thing is ofcourse that calling it boot.ini in the first place is already massive fail. launch.ini or something like that would have been smarter.

I did the YES to download thing a few times, now it doesn't come up at all and I get an Incompatable (Version) error now when I hit Connect...

I woke up today after not being on for a while and forgot about the patch!!!
So when It said incompatible version Empyrean Age I though I had yet another crash/Bug of this game since they all seem to find me.
The moral of this story . . . read the little window in full and see the date LOL before you delete your client and re-download it 
I imagine CCP has at least a partial staff of Chimps doing the programming. Its the only logical explanation for all the bugs this game still has after being around for so long.

One of the configuration files when doing the upgrade from Classic to Premium was called boot.ini, that was part of the problem. When the installation was near completion the CCP boot.ini was meant to be deleted in the update folder.
The problem was that the command to delete the file was 'del \boot.ini' which deleted the boot.ini in the root directory. They have since renamed the file to start.ini.
I have downloaded and installed the 58188-61817 patch right now they are not accepting connection and there is 5 QA on the server now making sure that everything is good.
