Bought my laptop with XP, EVE juddered and lagged. Upgraded to Vista, EVE runs smooth as you could wish. Still only classic but thats a hardware deficiency.
I've run vista on my desktop since launch and had 0 problems. It only crashes when I do something stupid (the kind of thing that would guarantee a bluescreen on XP) and even then it rarely even requires me to reboot.
Driver support sucked at launch but now frankly vista pwns xp. |

Vista is great. If you know how NOT to mess it up. Which even I do sometimes. I've had to format my computer twice... and there always seems to be ONE flaw regardless. |

I runs Vista 64 too, but I am not all that happy with it. I needed to reconfigure absolutely everything on it, to have it working the way - I - wanted it to work! And still I am having problems with user right management settings plus a hugely amount of different things! Honestly, I am thinking of using the administrator account as the usual account, seeing all the small under layer problems I am having with it!

All the large computer manufacturers are forced to put Vista on systems that doesn't really have power enough to run it properly, so the majority of people have gotten a really bad impression of it. The only sollution would be to make more powerful systems, which would make the costs go up, which would lead to inflation etc., so to make a long story short: If Vista didn't suck, then the world economy would be in ruins. ____________________

Yes because everyone wants to play with dx10 effects that look exactly the same as dx9 effects but have half the framerate.

Edited by: CaldariCitizen90874 on 03/09/2008 00:52:12 Vista does fukin terrible with 2GB of ram, try running a game like Empire earth or, Company of heroes, you'll have your 2gig used in no time, have 4 and it minimizes to the desktop like it was My Computer that was open
you clearly have not seen DX10 when it comes to scenery and Alpha bump maps,
well texture bump maps now, or something like that, it looks well better my opinion anyways, and i could afford half the FPS anyway :) |

I have Vista 64bit, runs mighty fine on my machine. Perhaps people should stop running it on crappy computers they bought from Walmart. Buy an actual non-brand computer that has been built for you, without the preloaded crap but an actual fresh and clean windows DVD.
People somehow think that cheap brand shite is any good.

For the naysayers I again cry BS. I have been using Vista since rlease and Vista 64 for over a year now, NEVER had an issue. I have built 141 machines in the last year, all but one has Vista on it and not a single user had taken my offer of a free downgrade with a 6 month warrenty extension if they did not like Vista. The one without Vista was due to the company needing to run an old DOS program.
As for the person that commented that vista does not like laptops, check again. I have a Puma based laptop that SCREAMS with Vista.
Any machine with a daul core processor and 2 gigs of RAM will run Vista 32 bit fine. Personally I say go for 4 gig minimum and step up to the future with 64 bit. ====================================== Saragael "Rejoice not my enemy when I have fallen, for I shall arise and God shall be my light out of the darkness."

but i see your point, but what if there was an option to run it DX9 or DX10
Its not that ppl cant, they DONT WANT to install VISTA crap on their machine. And atm really no point, Vista will be skipped like ME and then everyone will go to DX11 or they will release DX10 for everyone.
Heh, Vista 64 is by far the most superior OS for gaming. Especially when you can throw in more than 4GB of ram into your box. And don't think that ram goes unused, running eve maxed out puts the ram at 1.5GB not counting the graphics card memory of 1GB that is being used by the game on maxed settings.

Totally, all the vista bashers need to STFU and actually use it on a decent system instead of listening to all the FUD out there.
I won't even look at win xp again, now THAT is a shitty OS.

I'm currently running an intel quadcore, nvidia 9800gt, and 6 gigs of ram.
I installed windows xp 64bit, ubuntu 64bit (gusty gibbons), and vista ultimate 64bit.
So far vista has impressed me the most, but that may be due to its superior multi-threading capabilities. I though about giving OSX a shot, but then realized that I'm not a homosexual.

How about you actually reading what I posted?
You don't need 4 G ram for gaming. You don't need 4 G ram anything else than running your Vista with small and cute gadget clock at desktop while all your programs are preloaded into your ram so you don't have any free ram available.
2 G ram here in my gamin pc, windows xp professional sp 3, custom built, core2duo running at 3.05 GHz, 8800 GTX. Windows XP eats 220 mb of my ram. I run three eve clients with all the eye candy on.
About your market standards. You are one of those stupid peoples wich I mentioned. Vista is made to eat lot's of ram so M$ and chip manufactors can get more cash to pay the bills.
I can't understand why anyone want's to upgrade in OS wich is slower and it has crappier GUI (popup FEAST FFS).

If you run 32-bit Vista there's no point having 4GB of RAM because Vista is unlikely to be able to access more than 3.2GB of it.
Vista runs fine on adequate hardware. I can dual boot my machine to XP by swapping drive cables and when I did side by side tests I could barely tell any difference.
Is Vista better than XP? Meh. The UI is better when you get used to it and UAC is great but that's about it. I wouldn't pay to move to Vista from XP but if your new machine comes with Vista then stick with it. If you have another source of a valid license then it probably is worth spending an hour upgrading.
Oh and having to reformat your PC? Fail. The days of screwed up configurations stopped with Windows 2K. Since then I have never managed to get any Windows installation into a state that required reinstallation.

4 times RAM and CPU usage just for more bells an whistles? Thank you m$oft, but I'll stick to XP for now; on the side note linux can have much the same bells and whistles at fraction of performance hit. _____________ I don't care what is nerfed, as long as it's not my "undock" button. |

I have been using Vista since it's launch. Admittedly, there were a few initial problems, but you try to find an OS that didn't have teething problems. Since then, it has worked with superior efficiency to XP. I think some of the features on it are needlessly flashy, but you can turn them off.
I have to say that a lot of people that I have heard stating how bad Vista is do tend to be running it on systems that are just not capable of running it properley. If your system can't cope with it, then don't upgrade (or upgrade your hardware, as I did). It really is as simple as that.
Don't be so anti-progress as to instantly hate it because other people have ranted about it, or because it hasn't worked immediately. I remember all this kind of controversy with XP when that first came out. Most of the people who flamed it then, love it now, but hate the new system. Be a bit more open minded and patient people.
As far as new graphics on EVE go, they should finish off the premium graphics for all of those not done during the Trinity upgrade, then they can move onto the effects. Frankly, it would be nice to have prettier explosions (and it can be done in both DX9 or DX10). In an ideal world, I would like to see shrapnel coming off the ship's hull, and scarring from previous hits, but this is going to take a fair bit more work.

Linux with a emulator takes a performance hit aswell... but thats not what you said.
Im running Vista with 2Gees of ram atm and im quite happy. Im able to run 4 premium clients without any hitch.
Altough im looking forward to compare it to 4GB in 2 weeks

Well, hey. That's what happens if you take the Vista kernel and modularise the rest of the OS to the point where there is no unwanted extraneous code bogging done the system
Incidentally, this is the exact same conversation that took place between Win98 and Win2k: "old stuff doesn't run", "it takes too much space", "it has annoying security features", "it's slow"… Of course, all of it was complete nonsense. Gaming on '2k blew '98 out of the water (whenever it had the chance — '98 mostly just blow itself out of the water, just for fun).

To answer the original point, after having read through most of the dirge here on both parties, STFU and read the dev blogs. Time and time again they've said that the current release of Trinity isn't the final, and that all effects, textures and (maybe) the UI will be upgraded over time. They already have plans for this, they are already working on it, so pay attention a little.
