Easy: trading. I have 6 trading alts, if I can be arsed, I'll make 200m a day off each of them no problem.
IF.
eeek I have a couple of chars who can manage 301 (tycoon 4tw) orders, would hate to have 6 guys with that ;P 1800+, ugh
I said IF :)
The most I've had open for a sustained period (72 hours of ZOMGTRADING!!!!!LOLZORS) was about 900 orders at any one time.
And I'm not doing that again!

I don't want this to come across as condescending in any way. Since I started EVE 2 years ago, I told myself it's a hobby. A hobby, to me, has to pay for itself.
This is my main. I have two alt traders who have never trained a skill beyond what their template came with.
I log each alt in for 20 minutes every morning to adjust market orders. That's it for them.
Within the first three months, I have been able to pay for game time with ISK, pay for my main's skills, implants, ships, losses, and still have billions on each alt to continually reinvest in the market.
I'm not doing anything illegal. I'm not doing anything genius. I'm not doing anything special.
So my question is, if I can do it, why do others have so much trouble? |

They're either not very good at the game in general, they don't have the time or they're too lazy to bother.
I look down on people who buy GTC with isk, not because they don't pay but because it means someone is selling the GTC for isk.
Isk for RL money - that's the one thing I've never really understood in MMOs; that people get so obsessed with the game that they pay real life money in order to buy things in game, it's pathetic imo.
Lord2 Evil or whatever his name was, he spent about $6,000 (yes, six thousand USD) on GTC to pay for his titan (which promptly got blown up). Now he's a nice enough guy and he's incredibly rich IRL so he has the RL money to waste but I know I'm not the only one who would look at that and go "hmm...".
People who use out of game methods to make isk ingame will never earn my respect (not that my respect's worth anything - but I don't care, I'm better than them). --

I understand that people dislike others using real money to gain in game advantage. I understand the drawbacks of GTC for ISK. What i don't understand is why people get so angry that other people are "wasting" their money on a video game. People waste their money all the time, in all kinds of ways. Some people buy fancy toys, maybe even video game toys. You probably spend money on things he thinks is a waste. Personally, I view things like cable (tv) as a waste of money. I don't understand where people get off telling others how to spend their money.

Edited by: Kahega Amielden on 04/09/2008 17:03:19 Can you make 200 mil ISK PER HOUR? Because if you can't, your time is better spent working at a minimum wage burger-flipping job than grinding to get the ISK for an account.
There's two choices, then. Either
1) you grind even though the payout is tiny because you're stupid and don't understand this simple fact
2) You grind because you have fun doing it, so much moreso than doing a job that you'd rather spend a LOT more time grinding than you would doing a job.
Given 2), I don't see how you can complain. You're playing a videogame. You're having fun playing a videogame and you're getting it FOR FREE.

As some people have said 2 months of eve paid by creditcard can be as cheap as 1 hour of work at minimum wage with the current dollar value. Depending on which country you are in ofcourse.

Originally by: xavier01 So, as expected, with the removal of the 90-day GTCs, my alt account is about to lapse and there are hardly any sellers out there willing to sell at a rate consistent with previous amounts. Being a covert rate hike at upwards of 30%, it has made the funding of an alt account too expensive. Chatting with other folks in the trade channels has revealed the same - people are letting their alt accounts go stale due to the unrealistic in-game cost of maintaining a second account.
In two weeks, my alt will go into hibernation, and my main account will follow suit a couple weeks later since they were trained up to work with one another. And there they will stay until GTC options return.
All I can say, is that if this wasn't a rate hike, it was a successful effort to reduce server load, since less people are logging on nowadays.
Hopefully CCP will reinstate long-term GTCs in the future; till then...

200m/day isnt easy to get WITH AN ALT, Lets not forget most alt accounts are there for the oppsite play that we normally do..
He said his alt was made to complement his main, which gives me just the slightest impression that he dualboxes. He's more than capable of making enough isk to pay the price.

To me earning ISK in game *IS* the game. Yes, the ISK income of working at a minimum wage job and selling GTCs is a far better return on the time investment -- but that's not the point.
The effort and expense of dealing with funding alts became "not worth it." So I stopped. I suggest setting a very long skill and doing likewise.
The game will be much better off once a few tens of thousands of alts go into hibernation. Interacting with other people rather than running your own one-man sweatshop is a good thing. Find a corp where you can function without the crutch of your alt, you may be shocked at how much more enjoyable eve will become.

Why would anyone pay REAL IN GAME ISK for something that you can purchase for RL CASH?! Man... I would never sacrifice my ISK to save a couple real life credits... no way. ISK doesn't grow on trees man.

If you can't afford the subs to eve, you should probably put the games down and get a college education.

Having 2 Eve accounts costs me 72 cents (35p?) per day so the first minute and a half of my working day is used to pay for Eve leaving the other 7 hours 58 and a half minutes for other things. And all that's only because I'm too lazy to earn the ISK to play for free. If you can't afford Eve how do you eat?
