Edited by: Kafur Borodign on 06/09/2008 14:44:17 Hey guys, I have been having a problem with EVE. I am running the client on an XPS 720 with Windows Vista Ultimate.
This is what happens: I open up EVE and get through all the log-in/welcome screens. Then, when I'm in game, it takes anywhere from 10-30 seconds for the computer to completely freeze up. The image that was on the screen when it freezes is the image that stays there, I get no response from the mouse or the keyboard, and I can't ctrl-alt-delete it. The sounds gets distorted/skippy for awhile after it freezes, and then it eventually stops after a few seconds. This is very frustrating becuase this is the only game in which this problem occurs. Also, the game runs extremely well right before it freezes.
My temporary diagnosis of this problem is that it's somehow a compatability problem with Vista because I ran this game on XP Media Center for awhile and I didn't have problems (except that was o n an XPS 710, a different computer).
Also, all my drivers are the updated versions. I have tried rolling back the drivers to their original state, and nothing comes of it.
My stats: *Computer is NOT overclocked -3.00 gHz dual core processor -512mb nVIDIA 8800GT -4.00 GB RAM -Creative SB X-Fi soundcard

Hi!
I have the same problem but i use windows xp home sp2. A few days ago i installed a new os on my harddrive (Windows XP Home SP3) and the problems begin. I tested much much things read in forums etc from amd cpu issues with SP3 to ati card ore driver issues with SP3 and so on... so the only problem was SP3 i think... Well, today i bring on a new OS (Windows XP Home SP2). Everything is fine and then i connect to eve... 4 min. later... total freeze... only manuell reboot is possible... :-(
I dont know if the problem is only by playing eve because this is the only game i play this time but i have to test things out know... its so boring...
Before the installing of a new OS i have no problems... about 5 years my pc works very well so i dont know what to do now :(!
Its not the problem if other eve gamers post on forum like stargate freezes and stuff its just a total freeze and nothing happen... maybe its since the new update...
My Setup:
Windows XP Home SP2 ASUS K8V SE Deluxe AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Sapphire Radeon 1950Pro 500MB with Catalyst 8.8 1500 MB Kingston Hyper X 19" Samsung Syncmaster

Yes, manual reboot is my only option when this happens as well. This is very frustrating!
What I have tried, just now, is turning off the firewall and disabling the program Spyware Doctor (which is my spyware protection program). This was suggested to me by a Dell representative. It seemed to work for a few minutes, but then, seemingly inevitably, the game froze. I had successfully installed the patch and new build.
I can't believe so many people are having similar problems to this. It seems to be an issue only with this game. All my other games work just fine.

I have no problems running this on Vista Ultimate SP1. Try to shut off the windows firewall, windows defender, and that annoying thing that always asks you if u want to run something. and all the stuff u would normally do after installing windows.

Hi,
I have the same issue, and its related to MultiCore CPUS. Sometimes it helps if you set your Affinity to just one CPU, but lately that has not helped much either. I can play the game anywhere between 5 -20 minutes before it locks up. Its very frustrating. And yes it only happens with EVE, all other games inclunding CRYSIS in Extreme settings run smooth.

Same problem here. I believe its an EVE issue that CCP isn't willing to admit.

Maybe a crashing sound driver. Turn off sound and try running the game and see if it helps.
