Hi like the title says im new to the game just bought it 2 days ago and decided to go Caldari and was hoping somone could tell me what skills and ships i should be focusing on.
currently i have a Merlin class frigate with 2 Malkuth missile launchers and 1 Shield boost.
the main problem i have with missions is i take alot of damage and find myself warping out to repair then warping back in. And i would also like to fill more slots on my ship for burners or more shields but i have seemed to reach the max power for that ship.
Any help would be appreciated
P.S. Sorry im a total noob to the game but i really do enjoy it and see myself playing it for awhile.
Also i did not know where to post this topic so i posted it in ships and in the skills topics. |

Hi and welcome to the exciting world of EvE online !
Let me start with the most important part: F*UCK YOU
If you expect this attitude from everyone else, you will do just fine in the world of new eden.
To get you on your path: -join a corporation that helps new player (or even the EvE University - that may take some time however) and suits you (timezone, attitude.....etc.) -plan your skills with an external tool - evemon (you can choose a ship and set skill plans for requirements and recommended skills) -i suggest moving the following path: merlin(or kestrel)->caracal(short stop)->DRAKE
for fits - bookmark the following site: http://eve.battleclinic.com/browse_loadouts.php
Your game experience with rise exponentially in a good corp, so take some time to pick one, chat a bit .....
Wish you much fun,
Alec |

To be honest it is a bit of a PITA, but the quickest way is fitting your ship and moving right-clicking on your launcher module, below that you have 2 blue 'i' , one of them is 'show charge info' , there you have the flight time and velocity (you need to multiply) - based on your stats. |

Switch to Kestrel. Train engineering and advanced weapon upgrades (AWU is quite advanced skill, so for now get engineering to 4). I need new signature. |

Welcome to Eve :D
As the poster above said, I recommend getting into the Kestrel it is an extremely capable early mission fit albeit a little hard to fit. As for your tank issue, you want an afterburner, sitting still causes you to take alot of damage, you want to fire up your afterburner and try to get a range advantage on the enemies by controlling distance with your speed. You want something like this:
4x Standard Missile Launcher
1mn Afterburner Shield Booster Cap Recharger
Low slots will probably require fitting mods as standards take up alot of pg/cpu but damage mods are ideal. The awesome range on standard missile launchers coupled with the afterburner will let you range-tank almost all level 1 and 2 missions, I also ran this fit for the whole of the Sisters of Eve epic arc without ever changing ship or losing the ship, I did refit for rockets to break dagans tank though, saves a bunch of money on not buying a cruiser although a Caracal will breeze through it.
Also for the mid-term I suggest focusing on missiles and shields while leaving out gunnery because Caldari missile boats excel in missioning and thats usually your main source of income initially, Kestrel > Caracal > Drake > Tengu/Raven is the usual progression though I skipped the Caracal. After you have a steady source of income in L4s and you have a better idea of the game you can decide what you want to do and focus your training (Pssssst, Win(Min)matar is a good choice to cross train into if you're planning on PvP-ing) |

I like this build alot and going to try it when i get off work. The thing for me is i have a hard time fitting everything on the ship. I seem to run out of power and can only put 4 missile launchers and 1 shield booster before i use up al the power. maybe levelling engineering will help me with this.
P.S. money isnt a huge issue my friend gave me 3 mil ISK. not a whole lot but enough to start u with stuff. |

Fitting will always be a problem at first. As said, engineering and then Advanced Weapon Upgrades should be two of your earliest skills. I'd get Engineering to level V as soon as you're able to. |

if you enjoy flying missions (rather than trade, industry, pvp etc.), you want to add the following items to your skill plan:
Large Shield Extender II Adaptive Invulnerability Field II Heavy Missile Launcher II Hobgoblin II
Caracal Drake
in the long run, you want to fly either a Raven or a Tengu
this should keep your skill queue full for a couple of months.
as a rule of thumb, you should only train skills to lvl4 unless you need lvl5 as a prerequisite. also, you should train cybernetics to lvl1 and get some +3 attribute enhancers asap.
on a more general note, you should be able and willing to read a lot. there is exponentially more knowledge you have to bsorb to succeed in eve than you need for other MMOs. |

Open your certificate system. It is in your character sheet. Click on Core skills. Train all the skills under core competancy to standard level. Now you should be able to fit enough to run missions well. Skill into a Drake, train core fitting and capacitor skills to elite, train passive shield tanking and active shield tanking skills to standard/improved, intersperse missile skills in with this training. You will soon have the skills to run missions well in a drake.
Amass a fortune, get an expensive ship, watch as someone ganks it. Get angry and either start PVPi |

I think there is some good advice and some bad advice in this thread for very new players. For one thing I wouldnt train AWU too soon as you'll need weapon upgrades at V for that. You can keep busy for quite a while just training skills to lvl 4, with maybe a few skills at V that are pretty basic and preferably rank 1 skills, like engineering. Most of these skills can be found in the core competency certificate.
Also as a caldari pilot you have the choice between missiles and guns. If you want to stay pure caldari then missile is the best option. They are easy to use weapons, generally have a lot range, and perform very will in missions. Hybrid guns will give you the option to a different line of ships, which in general sub par compared to the caldai missile ships. But if you cross train to another race, you have the advantage that you already know how turrets work and they have the same support skills as all other guns, so you wont have to train those again. Because I think there already soo many skills to train when you start out, I stuck with caldari missile ships.
In the beginning I found it most usefull to start training my tanking skills instead of my damage (missile) skills, because tanking is what kept me alive. Focusing these skills on getting the prerequisites for tech II items is a good idea, as it will not only allow you to increase your skills but also gives you acces to better items. Someone above me already mentioned a few good items to aim for.
also 2 pieces of advice I'd like to add are:
- You dont have to play eve the way anyone else does, even if they say it's the best way. Just do things in a way that suits you. - Have fun, just do things in game you enjoy, if it's not fun dont do it, there's plenty of different things to do in eve |

This. If you aren't enjoying yourself, try something else.

It's not "part" of the game. It is the game. You'll lose ships... oh boy will you lose ships. Get used to it, cause it's gonna happen and it can make you cry and you'll come back for more.
As soon as you find a ship and fit you like, buy a second and copy the fitting. Makes getting blasted so much easier.

As already stated, learn the Core skills that you will find in on the certificates as these will help you fly any ships better.
As you are Caldari, missiles skills are probably more important to you for PvE than guns so you will want to get them trained fairly quickly to help you make isk so that you can fly nice shiny ships.
Most, if not all, Caldari pilots head straight for the Drake as it can tank very well and can do all missions up to Level 4 with relative ease. It will probably take you awhile to do a level 4 mission in one but that's ok as it gives you time to train and learn.
After awhile you will probably want to do some PvP. At this point, learn Minmatar skills and fly with their ships. Everyone else does for the most part.
They have one of the best if not the best Frigate (Rifter), Destroyer (Thrasher) and Battlecruiser (Hurricane) in the game.
Not to say Caldari ships totally suck in PvP but they have some pretty harsh downsides for PvP for a new player.
Ultimately, it's a game. Learn what you want, fly want you want and have fun doing it. |
