Does providing the base ship give any bonus to the chance of success or is it just a waste of minerals?

Items with meta levels between 1 and 4 will positively affect invention chances. Check the info on the base ships for a meta level. =) ---

Does it matter if the BPCs have researched material and production efficiency?

No, for invention, ME and PE of the BPC do not matter. All that matters is runs.
For ship invention though, only use 1 run BPCs, unless you plan on using a decrypter to try and get runs. For ships, if you aren't using a decrypter, you'll always get 1 run, regardless of whether the BPC was 1 run or max runs.

The dev's haven't given this information out, so people have had to reverse engineer the answer 'probably not at all'. It's certain however that it's 'definitely not enough to make it worth it' given that no increased chance has been noticed by anyone with a big enough sample size to count, and it's been what, over a year now ?
http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/invention_chance.php ^ This is the most accepted invention formula anyone has been able to reverse engineer. The decryptors and base stats are verified from the database dump.

The formula can give you a mathematical chance of -151%, which in practice of course means "zero."
Similarly, sometimes a formula for success rates can give someone a chance of 103%, which in practice means a certainty. ________________________________________________

151.2% simply means that by using an Arbalest Heavy Missile Launcher (14m ISK) and an Installation Guide decryptor (45m ISK) with max skills you are guaranteed to succeed inventing a 14 run Heavy Missile Launcher II BPC.
They will have cost you around 4.8m ISK per piece instead of just buying them for 900k off the market, but hey, you lol'ed at the formula. -- [17:47] <Mephysto> its dead, jim |
