Bullshit. I've said some really dumb things while drunk and had to fess up for them. I'd be willing to bet lots of money that you think bad things about people and don't say them out loud for fear of hurting the person's feelings or other repercussions. Drinking removes that filter
It doesn't make you a terrible person. Everyone thinks these things, not everyone is in front of a crowd of thousands when they're drunk and they say dumb ****.

Apology does not make it alright. You deserve a few smacks on the head with a crowbar for the way you acted. Most likely the villain in-game overtook the "nice person" in real life.
You just contradicted yourself and then suggested basically killing the guy IRL. Bravo!
Quote:CCP should have just throw the ban hammer to make an example of what not to do, but most likely they are too scared, and so prefer the "apologize so we can get this over with" routine.
I'm going to guess there was very little communication here with CCP during his flight home.
Look, I've hung out with the guy in real life, I'm indirectly responsible for HIS PUPPY (I have the same breed of PUPPY!) and I'm 100% certain this apology is real and from the heart. I hate to break down his internet persona but Mittens is a genuinely nice guy and he just let the internet persona go to his head. I've done this, I bet half of you reading this have done it too.
I really, REALLY hate to quote any work of fiction here, but ... "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"

I really, REALLY hate to quote any work of fiction here, but ... "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone" Being drunk does not make you a bad person, but how you act does. Being the "villain" in-game is a reflection of your own personality which you hide in real life with friends but in fantasy you wish to be. If you enjoy being the villain in a fantasy game, there is a reason for that in your own true self. Personally I'm playing a decent person in-game, in the same way I'm trying to be out-game. Also mr. mittens didn't say that in-game, which is why your whole argument falls apart. He said it on stage, in front of people and youtube, clearly stating "go make this guy kill himself". Not in-game, not under "the mittens" persona. Him, himself, in real life. And also: Deserve something and actually telling people to maker person X to kill himself, are two different things. And its not like he said "kill bad people because they are bad people". He actually said to abuse someone enough to push him over the edge. See the difference?
Are we having two different conversations here? Because I feel like you're responding to someone else.
Mittani said something REALLY dumb, out loud, in front of thousands of people. His internet persona took over his real life persona for one reason or another. It doesn't matter the reason, it happened. What's done is done. It's happened to me from time to time too, and I'd be willing to bet it's happened to you as well. At least once.
This does not make him a bad person, this does not make me a bad person and it does not make you a bad person either.
Had this happened with a small group of friends no one would have noticed. The failure here is that Mittani was both physically and egotistically drunk at the time and this is a very, VERY dangerous combination. He said A Bad Thing, and 3 days later there was an uproar about it. (Initially the uproar was about the foul language!)
As I said previously, he's a good guy IRL. He made a really bad mistake and now he's making an effort to make up for it. I'm betting you didn't even apologize the last time you called someone a name, or made fun of someone, did you?

Find me one quote from him where he says he represents the ENTIRE EVE COMMUNITY.
Go ahead, I'll wait.
You can't?
It's because he didn't. He's clearly said he stands for his constituents. Those people who specifically voted for him. Quit making **** up.

And of course someone quotes the trivial portion of my post and runs with it.

They waited for him to be announced as CSM chair.

"Gianturco exclaims that this was for the benefit of the average EVE player. -½The media storm made CCP see things from the players' perspective. We are really satisfied with what came out of these turmoils, and the average player in EVE Online will also feel the impact this had on CCP's priorities." Clearly he feels he represents the "average eve player" awwwww do you feel betrayed the mittens has been unfaithful to the swarm and has been trying to do things for the whole community? He's talking about the csm as a whole, you illiterate hobo. The CSM of which he is chairman or is comprehension beyond you. Since you cant understand the implication of that quote her is another one from Mittens where the goons dont even get a mention. "As CSM Chair, I offer sound guidance and guardianship of that power; I'm one of the first to truly wield it effectively. I'm here to protect the nullsec population against the existential danger of allowing an ignorant hiseccer and Greyscale to get together and talk about jump bridges. I'm here to keep the focus of the game on spaceships instead of a testbed for WoD or a venue for more pants. It's a guardianship." Yes its a guardianship and he has failed in his role. At least he has aplogised and intimated he will be resigning. YOu however are defending the indefensible. What I find most amusing is you think he represents the goons? He represents himself the goons are merely a tool for him to get the publicity his ego needs. THe goons are the fat girlfriend left at home whilst mittens goes out clubbing with the pretty babes in the gaming press. If I were a goon I would feel used and a bit dirty.
So wait, you found a quote where he says he represents "nullsec", a known minority of players, and waved it in my face as if it's proof that he's said he represents the ENTIRE EVE COMMUNITY.
I could not have done better. My hat is off to you, sir.

You mean wait a few days and see if the recent events is still a PR nightmare for CCP and all associated entities like the CSM? Because that is what you just said. Mittani/Alex created a situation that leaves only two options for CCP: 1. Don't ban Alex and all his accounts thus sending the message to all players and the gaming community that CCP supports cyber bullying with the goal to get another player to kill themselves in real life. 2. Ban Alex and all his accounts sending a clear message that CCP does not tolerate cyber bullying with the intent to have someone kill themselves in real life. That is the situation he created for himself and CCP. No one else did this. He has only himself to blame. Everyone no matter what your angle is knows damn well that if it was some ordinary player who did this he would be in perma-ban hell right now. Why should Mittani receive this special treatment? Does being on the CSM now or the next term mean they are not held to the EULA like the rest of the players?
Reading your posts is driving me to suicide. I demand that CCP bans you.

Surely it's time to call the police. Does someone have to die before people wake up to the fact that this activity is not purely virtual? Well, considering his address info was already easily obtainable on the internet before this issue that part isn't relevant. As for the comment about his wife, not cool but hey, was the caller drunk and just making a bad tasteless joke? Anyway, don't think there was a death threat involved. Oh wait, The Mittani encouraged players on world wide video feed to find and harass a potentially suicidal player to help facilitate that said person to commit suicide. Yeah, definitely it's time to contact the police. Not at all funny. This is a real woman's life we are talking about and the fear that goes along with it. This kind of crap should not be joked about at all. And that was peoples points about him calling for a person to be pushed to suicide. But the goons and their allies just laughed it off. Its sickening either way. I Just hope that this horrible incident about his IRL addy and threats make him understand why what he did that started it off was considered wrong by many of us.
You are literally a sub-human piece of garbage IRL. Mittani apologized over and over for what he did truthfully and sincerely. He's received a 30-day ban in game and has been removed from the CSM. he KNOWS and UNDERSTANDS that what he did was wrong and has said that repeatedly.
Yet you appear to condone the action of someone saying they're going to go to his house and **** his wife (who is a very lovely woman, by the way!) right after his home address was posted. You make me ******* sick. |

There's no ******* conspiracy here.
Anyone who suggests that there is has no common sense, conscience, or even the ability to separate fiction from reality.
Mittens' wife is awesome. My wife and her got along swimmingly last summer during our bi-annual goonp while the rest of us nerds talked spaceships.
She does not play Eve Online. She downright hates the game. Good job on giving her more of a reason to hate it.
You people are sick. Quit trying to justify this, it's not even remotely the same.
