If you don't have this game, get it now.
I was rather skeptical at first, expecting the cartoony-style creatures and EA would ruin it and it'd be just another game, but it's really something different.
The Creature/Object creator is amazing. Very simple to use but you can still do complex things with it in no time; if only you could do that to your stuff in all games...
Everything works so clean and fluidly too. It's really quite something.
Seeing your creation develop as you play the game is the best part. I nearly cried when my once-microbe abomination picked up a stick for the first time in his species' existance...
...and then they go all civilised, and hold up banners in protest and everything! Such a feat for flying reptilian carnivores with poison cannons on their tails...
What are everyone else's impressions?

It isn't quite what I expected, but it is a very good game non-the-less. Only slight disappointment is the Civilization stage that plays like a handicapped RTS. Once you get into it, it isn't bad though, and after you get into space it's supposed to be very good again (didn't get there yet myself).
TecamHund is the name if anyone wants to add me.

Horrible game.
There are worse things out there, but the features presented in 2005 that made the game really interesting have been cut out/replaced/dumbed down. So this is NOT the game that was hyped to the masses, lost a huge amount of appeal.
Also, intrusive DRM copy protection and limited online installation registration?
Hell no.
I skipped Mass Effect because of the restrictive DRM and I will also skip Spore... this time not only due to DRM but also because of cutting the original game concept down.
Cogito ergo boom - I think i'll blow sh*t up

True on most accounts, but Spore is still far from horrible as a game if you don't take into account ridiculous copy protection and corporate policy on limited installations.
I pretty much expect every new game released to be dumbed down for we live in the age of ******ation. General public demands mindless entertainment and the industry is more than willing to comply. In my opinion, Spore still retains its appeal even with cut down features, but of course this opinion might change after I play it for a while.
As for Mass Effect... Great game when you play it first time through. Then you realize it's more a movie than a game, and in no way an RPG. I will not be buying the sequels.
Going well off topic, but just fyi, if anyone wants to play a good single player RPG with an actual non-linear storyline try The Witcher. Best single player RPG since KOTOR I (if you liked it ). The company that made it also releases Enhanced Edition this month with all the content they had to cut originally for free.

Developers original ambition rarely makes it fully to the final product. I was personally expecting much less from Spore but actually, IMO, they've done a fairly good job (minus the DRM thing)

Very fun game, I enjoy it, however I find that the micromanagement at the Space Phase is a tad overkill, trading Spice is boring, Eco-disasters are annoying, yet sparse thankfully, and god-damn pirate raids/war raids are a pain in the ass and very frequent. Although I can understand the war-time ones, the Pirates are just... ugh.
Barring those flaws, and the fact that the camera angle can be your worst enemy at times (maybe it's me just being ******ed with my mouse) the game shines. Although I wish you weren't the only competent Space Commander in existence, you're pretty much a slave to your own colonies until you unlock Uber Turrets, slap those down on your planets and never worry about attacks again.
Terraforming is very fun though and the Creator tools are excellent. Just gimme Space fleets damnit.

I agree completely, especially when you are literally on the other side of the galaxy and you're meant to remember which black holes you went through and then zoom asap through the sometimes weird maze of stars.
If you could turn of eco-disasters it would be cool. Raids are'nt too bad, they just give you a heads up on which race needs yo be exterminated

BIG TIP -
You dont need to answer any of the calls - let the eco/ war things carry on it does not effect ur game play at all.
All you need to do for unlimited money is - find 1 - 3 spice worlds yellow green blue etc, find a planet that buys them at 17 - 58k each sell - collect sell collect over & over you will soon have upto 20million. if you cant be bothered to do this.
Shift Crtl + C ( type in moneymoney ) I did this after finishing them game - which is not that hard fly to the center of the core talk to ste get a 42 Staff of life thingy that makes any planet into t3 game finished.
Its a sandbox that you will get bored of within a week - nice game tho to keep you busy for a week or two if you dont play it solid.
