I was just stumbling over a thread about ambulation and improvements and had this idea about a way to 'see' what's going on outside a station, in case there will be no station windows.
If I remember correctly you could see a holographical display/table in one of the ambulation videos. It was showing the starmap. Now imagine one of those could also display kind of an 'overview' similar to that in space. That way people could see what's going on outside a station. Not visually, but at least a list of identified objects inside a certain radius.
Now I don't know exactly how separated ambulation and in space action are going to be, but perhaps that's easier to implement than real windows. It would just be the (simplified) overview information like if your were sitting next to the station.
Comments & additions welcome.

That's actually a neat idea.
Obviously there's a worry with server performance; however, since none of the arbitrary number of people who are watching the tactical display can actually interact with the outside status, the data necessary for transferring is actually very small - it's less than one additional player client sitting outside the station.
You could even limit the tactical display to one snapshot every 5 seconds or something like that.
However, I propose the following additions/limitations:
- This should be limited to office holders in a station, OR player-owned stations only. This is due to my suggestion of:
- Implement an additional targetable station service that needs to be ECM jammed (not shot) to prevent people inside getting data feeds. It could be targetable on NPC stations too, and jamming the service would cause aggression from the station sentry guns, but not from CONCORD. This is so you can use it against war targets.
Something like this would add a lot of immersion, I feel, because you can interact in wholly new yet intuitive ways between space and stations.
