As you all probably know, Yahtzee recently reviewed Eve. While the review wasn't very...shall we say... favorable, it still generated a lot of publicity.
Which wasn't exactly my objective when mailing him my letter, but at least it accomplished something. Yahtzee didn't say what I wanted him to say, so I am disappointed in that regard...but more players are more fun, so the review was overall good.
Oh, and PROOF, for all you disbelievers.

Yes because you are likely the only person in EVE who mailed him about reviewing it.

you didn't point out how anti-carebear/idiot EVE is. It is legal to scam someone in EVE and it is perfectly legal (in CCP's view, not CONCORD's) to shoot someone and blow up ALL of their stuff, you just have to face CONCORD. Also WoW has instancing, EVE doesn't. in EVE many things can happen to you unconsentually (sp?).

Because of the way your mail is written, I perfectly understand why he reviewed it as he did. In fact even without the mail, if he had taken the time to read these forums, he'd likely have come to the same conclusion.
The man really doesn't like fanboys/fangirls. That should have been obvious.

sadly in the review he basicly states that it was people in real life telling him that eve doesn't try to be wow.

link to the review? i have never heard of this Yahtzee... ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.

Edited by: Moira Pricecheck on 12/09/2008 20:41:41 Everything he said in the review about the game is absolutely true.
Eve IS boring. Mining is one of the dullest things you can imagine. Mission running is a complete joke. The death penalty in the game is so prohibitive that PVP Combat is reduced to spending so much time making sure you can escape a fight that you don't have any time to actually find someone to shoot at. The few slug fests you do get are so bogged down by lag that it's not even a matter of trying to escape, but instead just trying to do something before you get disconnected or find yourself suddenly in a pod.
The game truly requires so little interaction that skill or reflexes isn't even a factor. Everything boils down to having the right skills to fly the latest flavor of the year nano-fitted "I can kill anything that can catch me, and can evade anything that I can't kill" invincible ship. |

You know, as much as I want to argue with the things he says in that review... I can't help but find myself agreeing with the guy.
It DOES take an hour to get somewhere significant and it still looks the same.
PVP is EXACTLY the same as in any other MMO.
The skill system is really goddamn idiotic when you start thinking about it.
But hey, it has a certain addiction to it so who cares XD.

found it here (thanks google - forum ppl are no help)
well, after hearing what he had to say... it sounds like he basically just compared EVE and WoW to each other, and arrived at the same conclusion that most WoW-heads do: that it's too slow to level up, can't earn XP or whatever, missions are boring, blah blah... (also i think he totally misunderstood what a corp is supposed to be)
what he failed to understand is that EVE is NOT LIKE WoW at all because it has a different purpose. missions, skills, combat, etc are all means to an ends, which usually involves either massive loads of ISK or a social community like a corp or alliance.
but i do agree with him that EVE is one of the few MMO's where you can make in-game progress while being at least partially AFK. and that is actually one of the reasons i like EVE... because it can be more relaxing and slower paced. ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
