According to the add on the main page, CCP is hiring over 100 employees:
Quote: CCP|White Wolf is searching for more than one hundred motivated producers, programmers, artists, animation directors, testers and sound designers for creative game development.
The company will be hiring for positions in Atlanta, Georgia; Shanghai, China and Reykjavik, Iceland.
That's a move i don't understand. The game is stagnating since the beginning of the year (Source: Alltimegraph), despite a massive advertisment campaign on many internet sites and even TV (Battlestar Galactica airtime). Is this the right time to increase the payroll costs ? I'm not in the position to question CCP's actions, but such moves are usually done in a phase of rapid growth but not in stagnation times, where the future of the product is uncertain. Or are those new employees hired for the new vampire MMO ?
And why does CCP need branches in diffrent countries ? I understand if a company like a bank establishes branches everywhere to get in touch with local customers etc. In that cases physical presence is a requirement, in order to participate on the market of that area. But since CCP's product is available only through the internet, why do they split the company over 3 continents ?
Again, i don't like to criticise CCP's business strategy, but this moves make no sense to me (from an economical point of view), so what is the reasoning behind it ? Just want to understand it.

Intresting you link to a site which shows eve is still larger than a year ago:
And eve isnt the only thing ccp is working on.
There is not much reason not to split up your activities for something like ccp, since many activities are pretty much unrelated to each other. Also they need to be able to have support people working 23 hours a day, so then it is handy to be everywhere arround globe.

Edited by: Sheriff Jones on 17/09/2008 08:27:08 Iudex, they can afford it without effect to EVE etc other "balance of power" because the producers of WhiteWolf pay for it.
So the 100 new employees won't come out of EVEs paycheck.

If you look at this chart the number of subscribers is on an upward trend. However from the charts linked by the OP the number of players is pretty constant.
This tells me that there are a lot of people paying their subs but not really playing the game.
This would worry me if I was in CCP's shoes. Cause in the current economic climate people are going to be looking for ways to save money. And not paying the subs on a game that you don't really play is an obvious easy hit.

The money will come out of Eve's paycheck. The difference is that CCP is not working on EVE anymore. Whitewolf has had them working on the new MMO for the last year.
Haven't you guys noticed anything? Graphics upgrade for a bug ridden game? It wasn't even an upgrade, more like an overlay. They take the time to change how the ships look but haven't even looked at all the buggy overview problems they are having.
They are testing their code on EVE before bringing it into the new project. Look at the topics in this forum...

Thats just on the first page... and this isn't the technical support forum nor is it the suggestion box. EVE is on auto-pilot and it's owners are going to strip it for parts until it is no longer profitable to do so.

Simple explanation: they are working on the next game and letting EVE fade away ...
How to PVP: 1. buy ISK with GTCs, 2. fit cloak, learn aggro mechanics, 3. buy second account for metagaming

Bones are bones, burn her!!!
But seriously;
They wouldn't have started WhiteWolf if they didn't have the funding/cash for it. This cash has paychecks and needed MAN!!hours counted into it. As well as other costs, offices, computers, foodstamps, soda-funds, part funds...etc.
Ergo;

Why say you're not in a position to question CCP's business decisions (i.e. you don't have the information) if that's exactly what you're going to do?

To start with you could see what numbers CCP are presenting. Because in Leipzig for a month or so ago, they announced that the playerbase numbers are still increasing and are now about 250.000. I will trust CCP numbers before others, since CCP have always played with open cards since 2003!
Secondly, CCP are creating a 2nd online game. This game is manned with its own crew, to avoid taking any crew from EVE online, which according to the devs will still have a very high profile! So they are not downmanning, downgrading, hanging up the hook or anything for EVE online!
Also remember, the best chart to watch coming to MMORPG numbers of players are MMORPG Chart, but even if they are close, they are not 100%, which is the numbers CCP give out officially.
To sum it up: eve seems to be just as much alive today as it was yesterday!

I think we all know that any company trying to work on and sell more than one product at once is too radical an idea to ever work in practice.
The fact that the first page of EVE General Discussion is buried in whines and idiocy is basically proof that EVE is dying, as it for so long represented cool, level-headed and unfailingly positive interaction between CCP and the playerbase. -

CCP needs to add at least 1 more position, if not 3. Those positions also need to be accompanied by 1-3 fitness centres at their 3 primary locations. CCP then could hire me to run 1-3 of them so as to improve the health and wellness of their employees. Healthy employees, that are given time to work out during the work day, are happy and more productive employees.

This makes a lot of sense and could possibly be true (ebil game companies with ebil sekret projects)
But I really, really love EVE and don't want to see a new CCP WoW clone or terrible EVE 2 come out so please let me live in my deluded world where EVE lives forever, is always new/exciting and I never grow up. --

Actually several key CCP employees (Devs) who used to work on EVE have moved over to working on the new sucky-sucky Vampire (WOD) MMORPG.
Yes, WOD has its own crew, but that crew consists of many of the DEVs who used to work on EVE.
Good to see that CCP is still hiring for that UI developer job though.

Don't be so quick to believe it, EVE traditionally slumps in the summer compared to the rest of the year, the All time graph still shows an almost consistent rise in numbers.
Interestingly, there seems to be a slump at the time that the Nano-nerf was announced, which now seems to be recovering quite well; Goes to show that voting with your wallet does work.
