Ok here is the deal. I bought 8800 GT with passive cooling. Just because I want to run EVE with premium graphics. I had 7950 GT before.
So yeah AA and AF sure are working, but whatta hell is that flickering on all edges of objects?
http://eve-files.com/dl/173201
Lasers are terrible, you can't call them laser
So what I mean is that AA seems to be working (edges are smooth) but by some freaking reason the colours in those edges are flickering and waving weirdly.
Please help me!!!
P.S I have tried all available drivers released to GeForce 8 series (betas included), nothing helps. And I get this problem in other games too. FSX and C&C3 etc..

I said already that I have tried ALL possible driver versions for that card.
Bloom is NOT enabled.
AA is enabled.

Let's make this clear.
The problem isnt the AA!
The problem is that FLICKERING COLOURS at edges of objects!

Could someone who has 8800 GT post some good resolution screenshots from stations etc?
So I could do some comparing.
I tried 7950 GT back on but it now had the same flickering thing in EVE than with 8800 GT. I think it's issue with Shader 3.0 or something like that... But I need atleast few screenshots. Pretty please

I don't have a solution for you, but I have an nvidia 8800GT, but dont see the problems you describe.
I'm running EVE Premium in window mode. 1280x960 (to fit the standard windowsbar in the bottom)
I don't run AA, but have HDR and Bloom.
I don't even run the latest nvidia drivers.
The exact spec of the computer is: Intel quad cpu. Q6600 2.4 6Gb Memory Gainward 8800 GT 512Mb graphics Windows Vista x64
Sorry i cant be of any specific help. Only difference i see is the passive cooled card, but didn't think that would make much difference.

That effect comes even when AA is turned off.
But of course, the game looks absolutely terrible without AA...

I watched the video and could not see what you are referring too ...
Having said that, when I had a 7800GT and had weird flickering colors and stuff ... also passively cooled ... turned out the card was seriously overheating.
Once I opened the case, to let the excess hot air out, it was fine.
I would also check to see if the card is properly seated in the PCIE slot....

Edited by: Denonian Raphael on 19/09/2008 07:54:57 Common problem with the 8800GT is overheating. The 1 slot cooler is a piece of junk, and the reason why I bought an 8800GTS with it's 2-slot cooler.
It's also very possible the card is now damanged by overheating and no matter what you do you'll always have those artifacts. I had the same problem on an old Radeon 9700Pro who's fan died, cooked the card. Thankfully Crucial's lifetime warranty worked and they swapped it. :)

A 7950 GT can't run premium thats a suprise even my laptop can run premium perfectly..
I take it u have tried the old card in aswell if the problem happens with both cards its obv not the cards i would format and start again if thats 2 extreme delete eve and install again.
the worst case is u damage the mb pluggng it in or the card is duff which i dout i would try ruling out software issues first

If you switched back to the old card and still had the problem then I don't think it's a bad card. I suppose both card could still be overheating some though.
I USED to run 2x premium clients on my notebook -and it only had a little nvidia 7600 Go w/ 256Mb. Sadly, nvidia's driver packs no longer support anything below a 7800 Go. But EVE ran pretty well on it. That is until the evil 1.1 "Boost" patch came along and slaughtered all my framerates as well as ruined my stability -in space or docked up. I got tired of it. So I just run 2x or 3x classic clients now. It was a little hard looking at the old graphics for the first week, but the game is rock stable again. I still resent ccp though for showing me that my computer could run the premium and then F***'ing up the rendering so bad that I had to give it up. But I suppose they all develop on state of the art, quad core cpus, and dual SLI graphics cards -slow framerates? We don't see slow fps. LOL.

It's not overheating... There is passivecooling system (wich is HUGE, really WTF HUGE) and there is two 6 cm fans on it as extra clooling and I put another 12 cm fan there Temps are low. The problem is visible even with mininmum load..

This is how my desktop is looking when I delete drivers and I have booted the PC.. I haven't ever seen anything like that.. In any radeon or nvidia graphics card the desktop bg image has always been smooth when drivers aren't installed.
And I remind that I have similar problem in other games too and with two different Nvidia graphic cards.
And that effect in the video clip appears even when AA is completely turned off (other games too).

Have you tried multisample?
Set AA transparency in nvidia control panel to multisample.
Just a thought.

Edited by: Kazuma Saruwatari on 25/09/2008 08:43:07 Its not really an issue, tbh. Those "flickering lines" are aliasing showing up no matter what you do because of the way GPU's render video into bitmaps on the screen.
Let me guess, this is the first time you're running Premium? Dont expect crystal-clear graphics at any level, unless you're running an ungodly resolution like 1980x1600 or something like that.
No matter how much AA/AF you're going to throw at a percieved graphical "issue", the bottom line is that the card still has to render the game in a pre-set resolution that you, or the game, has set, and that may just render all the AA/AF settings moot.
Try it, view the game in 640x480 and at a higher resolution, both with AA/AF on. Practically little to no difference.
