So the new bond film is approaching. I just heard the theme song by Jack White and Alicia Keys.
It's an interesting one for sure, very Jack White.
The film itself looks like a good sequel maybe not as awesome as Casino Royale but its a hard one to top really.
So are you exicited like me? What do you think of the new theme song? And about the new darker Bond in general.

I'm fairly young myself (21) so i wasnt around when any of the older bond movies were 'hip', but i've seen them all and i thought CR was a great deviation from the path that Brosnan was going down. Less gadgetry, more action and a better story.
My uncle who was young when the bond movies were young, thought it was horrible however.
So yeah, i'm looking forwars to it myself :) --------------------------- sok alt - main got banzored |

James Bond was stretched when Pierce Brosnan was doing it.
This new guy isn't very James Bond imo. Just doesn't fill the role of suave, charismatic super-agent.

Also agreeing that James Bond is his charm and gadgetry.
Whatshisface would have been better doing an off-shoot to James Bond, imo. I miss teh gadgets __________________

Edited by: Ealiom on 18/09/2008 12:07:47 I hated the gadgets. Hate They are the recourse of the poor writer. 20minutes into a Bond movie, James has a nice chat with Q.. He meanders around his lab displaying an ellaborate demonstration of gadgets only to stop at one in particular... "This is for you Bond" he says while handing him a new gadget.
Can Q unravel the threads of the future? Can he forsee that in order to escape his captors particularly designed time delayed death he would need a staple gun and half a yard of twine.
He isnt this Q He's this Q
If his gadget was a character, and James Bond was told "Take with you Harold for he has the remarkable ability to open beer bottles with only his two front teeth!"
If you ever had to use Harold to escape certain death while on a top secret mission, you'd begin questioning if you were being set up.
Leave the gadgets for Batman.

There were very few gadgets in the books, and the movies just went crazy for them. He has a few gadgets but not too many. He is a hired killer after all.

Edited by: Croesus on 18/09/2008 14:27:02 personally i didn't like the last James Bond movie. felt more like a movie based on the terminator franchise than the bond one. him being so unstoppable and so devoid of emotion and all.
not that i dislike the terminator movies, I just wasn't expecting one.

I feel that GoldenEye was a good mix of minimal gadgets and storyline, and Pierce made that the best Bond film for me.

I am enjoying this relaunching of the James Bond movie story. So far I havent heard any cheezy puns or seen any women named ***** Galor and so forth. Hopefully they stay away from the cheese and keep bond as a flawed anti hero instead of a Britsh playboy spy whose nickname is likely double O syphilis. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

CR was the best bond movie for me, alot of the pierce films were almost making him a secondary character to all these female agents etc.
Bond is a sexist, cold, hard killer. Think the direction they went down was alot more relistic to real world technology and the guy gets proper hurt in CR.
imho i always felt the other Bonds were sugar coated and i never enjoyed them that much. CR however is alot more cool. Gadgets well they were getting more and more far fetched in the others, wana see the dude kick some ass, suduce teh sexeh ladiez with his trademark British accent, use and abuse em rofl
That Parkour bit in the begining was awesome.

what was considered a super-futuristic gadget not so long ago we now wear round our wrists, and the scope of our technological imagination has been extended further still, so I think the lack of gadgets, in CR was very welcome and shrewed decision.
I don't have a 'best bond' but CR was entertainingly paced, well scripted and the bond fleshed out in DC posessed a compelling juxtaposition of cold hearted killer and a vulnerable man. and eva green's **** are fantastic tbh.

It will never be as good as Casino Royal, specially now with all the hype from that movie coming into play for the next one.
But I bet it will be worth watching.

Edited by: Xen Gin on 18/09/2008 18:10:53 The only thing that annoyed me in CR, is that he wasn't even a double O until M upgraded his status.
Which means either the film has no continuity (CR was the first Bond story to be written), or that the name Bond and 007 is just a code name for a nameless agent that takes up the role after his predecessor has died.
I think its the the latter, similar to Doctor Who's regeneration in order to keep everything going.

it was time for a change tbh gadgets are fine but once they cross into the area of invisible cars and wris****ch nuclear weapons it's a little dumb .
this bond has better hand to hand fighting skill . he maybe a little rough around the edges but it's better that way .

Utterly hated Casino Royale, so I expect I'll like QoS at least a little better.
Bond films are a completely different entity to the books and shouldn't be made to emulate them in my view.
I've always been a massive Roger Moore fan. He is what I always imagined Bond as, although in terms of appearance and character, Brosnan is Bond. But I still prefer Moore. I also really liked Timothy Dalton.
Craig's Bond is more like a generic gritty action hero from what I can tell. He's being dark for the sake of it because being dark is currently the in thing in films. Not to mention the film itself lacked any excitement whatsoever for me.
Some say anyone who doesn't like the film doesn't get it. I got it. I still hated it.
The new song sounds Ok. Certainly better than the bilge of the last 2 songs, but still not classic Bond. It seems they are trying too hard to make Bond hip.

No. And that's not some kind of flame at the people that loved it.....I can see why people liked it. But I sat at the cinema watching it and my facial expression didn't change once, nor did I even move much during it. It bored me stiff. The only bit that got me remotely interested was the scene where Bond got poisoned.

It's much more Sean Connery than Roger Moore.
Lets face it, the last couple before CR were a bit shite. "Gadgets" just equated to a focus on stupid CGI stuff. Cloaking cars? Death ray air ships?
It was just boring to watch.

Casino Royale (the book) was dark themed at the end and had a nice uncouth feel to the Bond, as well as provideing impetus to Bond's essentially suave-psychopathic persona. I thought Daniel Craig filled those shoes quite well. Also, he's brought a new vitality to the role that the other actors haven't had since The Sean. it was getting more and more about flash and less about killing enemies of the state with style.
So long as the new Bond starts to acquire some civility to cover his underlying remorseless-killer core, I'll be very happy.
