Not going to happen.
The cap is at 800 as far as we can tell which means that only a handfull of super alliences have the manpower to pull it off. Having said that none will ever try to get 800 into a single system simply because the lag bomb it would cause would be so bad many couldnt load into the system and more would de-sync and disconnect.
Thats without taking into account the fact that the node would probably go into meltdown
800 man fleets are simply too large to work.

And the cap is higher than that.
The cap is just a temporary measure to allow us more time to analyse the data from last night and avoid cascading problems tonight. There were 1,400 pilots in Jita last night, Saturday, and the temporary cap value was chosen so only Jita is realistically affected. We were working throughout the night and this morning on this issue and are still at work.
Unfortunately one node died this afternoon (not 30 nodes) but that incident is not related to the temporary capping as far as we can tell. The maximum population in the solar systems on that node was well below the cap.

I bet you 1 isk the diffrence my good man but by GOD i hope you are right .... if your not we are going to hear HUSTON we have a problem. and i think that after today the limit arent 800 ppl but why would it stop any alliance creating 200 alts put them in a important system? ppl arent nice ppl want to win at any cost and after all years in eve we know ppl will try everything including this ....
enemy fleet 300 defending force 400.... logged off alts 100 alts log in during jumpin enemy get 100 ppl thru gate then CCP say No No dumb dumb you are staying on this side .. fleet that got thru goes bo0m bo0m... get my drift here? WTF ur on about Wetstain? |

If defending a POS, the defenders have ~2 days to get the defenders (and their other accounts) into system. They don't have to move as a fleet. I have 4 accounts myself and know this is more common than not in the best PvP alliances (4 might actually be low).
Then its simply a matter of starting to log them on as soon as possible after DT and just leave them there. If you do it cloaked in safespots their lag impact will be minimal. Remember they're not there to DO anything. They're just there to fill the system to the cap limit.
Alliances will start doing this as it offers a risk-less way of defending systems. If the cap is the aforementioned 800, then if each person in a 200 man defence fleet logs in 2-3 alts, the attackers will not get in.
This can of.c. be reversed for attackers.....
As I wrote in post #227, these will be legitimate paid for accounts. It'll be hard for CCP to declare this an exploit, particularly in light of their 'Power of 2' offer. Who to accuse of exploiting? People who log in their legitimate alliance characters to play a game they pay for?

Agreed. Its only a matter of time before an alliance will attempt this. Either to take/defend the system or to prove a point to CCP.

Wow, a lot of people over-reacting to this topic, most notably Avon. I don't know you, Avon, but you are coming across like a huge screaming dork, if I were you I would edit all of your posts. I just read all 11 pages and you whining is pretty much the only thing I remember.
As it stands on TQ before this, if you put in 800+ people 23/7 you were pretty much invincible, but no one did this. You can't get 800+ people to stay in your system 23/7. Currently the NC can't get anywhere close to that number. I see no real change with 0.0 warfare.
Do you people really think that one day you will be reading a dev blog and the very last line will state: "Oh yeah, we fixed the lag, it seemed we had a zero lag button all this time and just decided to push it"
Fixing lag or any other cornerstone game mechanic is going to be a bumpy ride that will have its share of fail, so HOLD ON TO YOUR TIN FOIL HATS. --

Why 800+ NC alt? Even 600 is enough coz it limits hostile response to 200. 500 in system will leave 300 spots open. Heck even 400 with cyno jammer + titans/moms vs 400 conventional fleet will win. And 400-500 are achiveable by both sides. Thus this change might affect current gameplay in 0.0

Did I miss something???
In case I did not and the dev's happen to read this. Such an Idea might work IF YOU WERE PROMPTED upon log in to be transfered to one of the nearest neighboring system. Make up some "In game reason" for it like when it talks about trash talking at gates or how "scotty the docking manager" is having problems.
Sitting in front of my PC waiting for my client to log in just because he happens to be in a busy system is A VERY unappealing notion for me......seriously. The above would be an easy and acceptable fix.

You know, strange as it may seem, you calling me a dork somehow loses its edge when you do it on an internet chatboard. Still, if personal insults help you get through the day, you go for it.
As to no alliance mustering a huge defensive force, ask LV how they think things would have gone with a system hardcap to help defend their home, rather than people being allowed to jump in regardless, and eventually gain the upper hand and win.
Still, I'm sure the Science and Trade Institute run great courses on 0.0 life, and so you probably know far more about it than me.

Hmmm now even though this is a GREAT idea for places like Jita, there is going to need to be some sort of time control implemented for the people who seem to camp in Jita 24/7 AFK.
As a few people have stated many many MMO's that have had AFK lag issues or over population have implemented a system that basically keeps an eye on players and if they have been inactive for any set amount of time they are prompted to answer a random question (usually something like what is 100 + 12)if they don't answer that question within a set amount of time they are logged off.
This is needed because otherwise Jita will become the AFK capital and those players who actually want to play the game that require something from Jita won't be able to get in there to get it.
Now IF this sort of system was implemented over all systems including 0.0 systems it could very well be the single biggest reason for players leaving the game due to not being able to attack sov systems in decent numbers because the defending alliance has managed to get enough people together to very serverly limit the ability of the atacking alliance(s). Now IF 0.0 systems were included in this sort of thing anyone that seriously thinks that alliances wouldn't do this sort of thing must be tripping especially when some players are willing to do just about anything to hold onto their cyber-space and not loose what could be many many billions of ISK worth of ships and other hardware.
Anyway just on another note, I have noticed the numbers of players online dropping lately. In fact not all that long ago it was common for there to be 28 - 32k players online during the times I played, now those numbers have droped to 18 - 24k (maybe it was just during the summer break in the US that the amount of players online went right up & they are just getting back to normal)
If you wander around in 0.0 or Lowsec with no idea you WILL end up dead! and whinging about it on the forums will get u nowhere! |

Because CCP's idea of SOONÖ is measured in geologic time.
The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the ho's and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' and I'll look down, and whisper 'no.' |

Suggestions for CCP:
1. Implement non-activity/repetitive activity flags. Prompt players who trigger these flags with a "do you want to be logged off" screen. Make placement of these prompts appearance in a random spot on your screen. After 25 seconds if no response. your logged off.
[benefit.. afk and macro runners get the boot]
2. Implement time limits for heavy load systems such as Jita. Player flies into Jita they are given 1 hour to conclude their business and then they are moved to another system forcefully if they don't leave by themselves.
[benefit.. Jita population becomes dynamic not static.]
3. Implement "return" limits to all market hubs. Players who have been in a market hub in a 24 hour period are only allowed to enter no more than a total of 3-5 times per 24 hours.
[benefit.. Jita population is now forcefully limited, people won't waste their "turns" by sitting afk. They will conclude their business and leave]
4. Implement dynamic trading system (sorry folks I can't remember the name people have mentioned for this type of system), allowing for a small, scaled fee for transport of items for sale, to buyers in other systems within your current constellation.
[benefit... this will allow players to spread out in a constellation and do their business rather than sit in one system and fry everyone's brains with lag]
5. Tie CCP Wrangler up, Cover him in Honey, place him on a Fire ant nest and make him learn to write detailed and informative posts that don't leave grey areas for idiots like me to walk into.
[benefit... I don't eat quite so much Crow.]

Oh, and taking into account that lag during PVP only affects maybe 20% of the entire eve player base, maybe less laggy playable PVP will allow moar people into 0.0 .
I look forward to 600 Vs 600 fleet battles with only 10 secs lag.......oh ya baby.

Forget it, they won't do it since the resulting active player numbers would look bad. There's something like 1/3 AFK players in EVE, greatly inflating the "concurrent players" numbers.

You know they could just build a new engine just for Jita. It will have no graphics, basically it will be like a MUD version of Jita, so you just type like: dock at 4,4... take gist x-type xl booster... undock... warp to new caldari gate.... jump.

The uproar right now has nothing to do with Jita. Jita just started the uproar. This is about the game in general and the lag that affects any serious player. Serious players being those who participate in 0.0 warfare.

ccp wont listen until theyre hit where it hurts the wallet. An internet campaign would solve this. Tell the prospective new players the truth about eve, fleet battles are unplayable the nodes cant handle the players they already have and the situation just keeps getting worse and worse. only then would they do something. At some point they stopped caring about the playerbase and started only caring about their $$$$$

Sorry, it doesn't work that way.
I've told my friend how much EVE fleets suck due to lag and how much the game suffers from lag issues. Once he tried it, he couldn't care less about the lag.
It's really CCP's fault for making such a good game. I hope they burn in hell for that.
