I'm very anxious to see what Tech 2 or Tech 3 ship will have the secondary battlecruiser skins that aren't being used, such as the Harbinger and Drake.
Also, perhaps Tech 2 capital ship variations? Amirite, amirite?

Originally by: Rashmika Clavain We've got tech 2 battleships already amd imn teh same breath, some lean towards a salvager role.
We have tech 2 ships that are built on battleship hulls, but they're not headed in the same direction -- that is, they're not T2 in the sense of previous T2 upgrades. Consider the upgrade from Vexor to Ishtar: far better resistances, much better drone capability. Now look at Dominix to Sin: all I can say is "meh". What I'd been hoping for is a similar upgrade to the Dominix capabilities.
I'd like to see a T2 version of the Myrmidon... since the Myrm was downgraded from a drone boat in the Great Gallente Nerf, it would be nice to have a drone boat of battlecruiser size.

"Flag ship" battleships, huh?
Sounds to me like they'll be about as popular as using Marauders in fleet battles.

Salvager. A lightweight destroyer with 8 high slots, 6 lows or a large cargo hold and at least 2 or 3 mids, no turret or launcher slots and respectable bonuses for salvaging. Maybe 7% salvage bonus per level since the best you can achieve with T1 salvage rigs is 55%.
A mid level Freighter would be nice but with some means of defence, at least a tank even if it has no guns. Heard a lot of talk about an Orca but seen nothing as yet... Vapourware?
Top of my head idea, no thought put into it first so it's a bit raw. A Mining Platform. Deploy, anchor with password just the same as a secure can and dock with it to mine directly into a ships hold. Cannot mine without the ship docked. Has 4 modulated strip mining turrets with a 25K range base. Becomes unanchored by itself after 6 hours of non-use so it cannot be left deployed without someone stealing it after 6 hours. 10 minute anchor/unanchor delay. Permissions like POS if it is launched for the corp so any corp/alliance member with relevant skills to use the platform can dock and fill their hold. Bonus to range 10% per level. Rank 10 skill. Pre-req: Exhumers lvl5, Mining lvl5
BBS: (Bloody big ship) Like a Titan with no offense at all but a very respectable tank. Used as a mobile base for both pirates and wanderers alike. Almost like a mobile outpost and just as hard to destroy with a good tank. Where ships can dock etc but the entire corp can be moved inside the ship to another system with a cyno. Destruction also causes the loss of all ships docked inside it and all pod pilots docked will emerge in their pods only.

Just a rough idea, kill it if its too radical: What about a ship with inverted cloak.
It would be invisible to other ships except cloaked ships. And it can see cloaked ships on overview like they aren't using any form of cloak.
At the same time if it uses a cloaking module, it becomes visible to uncloaked ships but invisible to other cloaked ships.
Maybe it would add something to the game because you'd be able to remove people hanging afk cloaked in a system all day. This would also enable you to try and kill an enemy covop that is trying to get into a good spot for his m8s to warp in a sniper fleet, etc.

Honestly, I really hope they make Archeology specialized battleships.
Why battleship you might ask? Well, Tony Gonzales works for CCP... so it's not a far stretch to assume that what he included in Empyrean Age (the novel) wouldn't be too far off the thoughts of the folks at CCP.
So it's takes a bit of extrapolation from here. A few times during the novel, Tony goes so far as to give us the approximate length of a Battleship (1 kilometer). Now, later on in the story, we learn that Marcus Jror - one of those mindless followers of Sarum - is aboard a specialized vessel (the first of its kind) built by the Amarr. This vessel is massive and - just like a battleship - an entire kilometer in length. Therefore, with sizes matching (Remember, cruisers are tiny in comparison to battleships), one could assume that one of these Archeology mammoths is going to be... well... a battleship. Also, it sort of stands to reason beyond that, because you'd want something big enough to stand up to the abuse offered by NPC's at Archeology sites.

Myrms are awesome. My m8 has one that tanks like a command ship and deals an obscene amount of DPS.
I wanna see a new layer of BC specialized for something different than tank and gank. As it stands they can do either of the two, or both, but no Ewar or hell, even Nos or remote repping. Logistics BC?

Edited by: goodby4u on 22/09/2008 21:58:02 Couple of ships come to mind.
Medium and heavy bombers...
Medium:t2 cruiser that can use 3 torps and has a very limited tank but decent speed ability.
Heavy:t2 bc that can use 6-7 torps and has a decent tank(about that of a hac)with a very limited speed.
A type of suicide ship.
Frigate size, has very nice speed 1 high 1 mid 4 lows(depending on race)... It will have the ability to use somekind of selfdestruct device that takes 15 seconds to spool up and cant be used in highsec(does a very nice amount of alpha damage within a 500m range).
Kinda out of the box, but meh
EDIT:For the suicide ship I recommend the inability to use the selfdestruct device in highsec.

A ship like the Arbitrator of Starcraft, which have the special ability to fit an area-of-effect cloaking device. Of course, the Arbitrator-class ship is itself not cloaked by its own module, but only nearby friendly ships.
It can only warp when in a fleet, in response to a fleet warp command. No warping on its own.
It should have a small signature radius, light-interdictor-class hull and speed, minimal weaponry and T2 resists. It should require Logistics V and Electronics Upgrades V, and Cloaking V to pilot it.

Originally by: Suitonia Well currently there are 3 ships for each race that don't have a t2 variant.
Bantam/Navitas/Tormentor/Burst - Prehaps a salvaging/hacking etc. bonused ship for these hulls, or maybe a small agile miner, like 3 turrets, 20% bonus per level, frigate class speed/agility with grid to fit a mwd and small tank.
Not a horrid Idea, although I would prefer it if they had a bonus to Tractor range and salvager chance, but were slower than most T1 frigs. Minimal Defense, but 8 high with 2 weapon slots. Cost could be somewhere around 4 mill, I think people would be willing to pay that.

Drake/Myrmidon/Harbinger/Hurricane - heavy bomber? some sort of science ship / exploration ship?. Commandships already have the role of harder hitting, better tanking battlecruisers so they would need to fill some kind of niche.
A cov Ops Command platform would fill the missing cov ops role. A ship with the ability to fit and run 3 Gang assist mods and use a Improved Cloak like a black ops and Bomber. Defensively it should be weaker than the normal command ships, but giving it more agility and some possible bonus's to Cov ops/black ops, such as a jump drive cost reduction, would make it worth alot to some people.
Although My idea there is kinda weird... I know.

My idea from years ago when we where flying around in a gang. A COW SHIP thats right, Guns attach to the utter and it floats around, big as a titan. It should be a prize ship for something doing with livestock in the game.
COW SHIP!!!!!!!!!!!! give me that, and make it pink too.

But for twice that much ISK you can buy an Eris, which is not only as fast as many frigates, but also has a way better offense. Plus it's got the eight slots for a mix of tractors and salvagers. I don't understand everyone's pushing for a dedicated salvage ship. Just add a role bonus to Destroyers and Dictors that boost tractor beams and or chance of salvage.

Meh. Rokh with good skills is already virtually immune to all EWar and return fire because of its range potential. Introducing a whole class of ultra long-range ships would just make fleet battles that much lamer.

a heavy bomber would be like a battlecruiser that has citadel torps... doesn't really need to be stealth i guess, but it would probably help combat the trend towards lots of cap ships.
but it would be cool if it sent out like a huge missile that you could target and intercept if you had a fast enough ship. ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |

I really like this idea and its inspired a non practical idea. ISBM's (Intra-system ballistic missle) can be launched across a system with a range of say 100 AU,when launched it shows up on everyone's overview and can be warped to directly. It obviously should travel very slowly and can be taken down. It would be used for POS warfare and do massive damage to a certain diameter around the target. Or possibly an Inter-system missile that can be cynoed in.(ok maybe this is getting a little ridiculous)

It would allow someone to attack a POS with impunity, so no.
If you don't allow it to be automatically targeted by unmanned POS guns it's unbalanced. But if you DO allow it to be automatically targeted by unmanned POS guns it's useless.

So give it a speed of like 1 AU/sec, the turrets can shoot at it, but might not be able to take it out in time (or make a POS structure specifically designed to counter such a thing).
Personally, I'd like to see the current set of T2/3/Faction ships made more worthwhile before any more are added into the game. There are so many great ship choices, but their uses are made so much more limited by their ridiculous cost.

Rather than add ever more increasingly specialized ships, there are issues with the current ship roster than need to be looked at, I agree. Right now Capital and anti-Capital ship dynamics need some work (how many more cap ships online threads will be started between now and the implementation of a fix I cannot say.) T2 capital turrets need to be introduced, and geared not towards killing POSs, but killing other cap ships, particularly Titans and sieged Dreads. Titans need the ability to launch fighters and fit siege modules (especially if the DDD gets nerfed), and Motherships need additional capabilities beyond "big carrier with clone bay".
I'm thinking Moms should have an assortment of AOE modules that they can activate around themselves. The Mom itself, and other supercaps in close proximity to it, would not be affected by the modules. Only one module could be activated at a time. Some potential examples:
1. Deflection Shield: Functions similarly to a POS tower. The Mom still takes all damage thrown at it, but the shield keeps out hostiles and protects friendlies inside the shield from incoming fire. Friendlies would not be able to shoot out through the shield though. Does not defend against Doomsday devices.
2. Gravitic Distortion: Speeds up or slows down all ships and missiles inside the distortion field. Friendly and enemy forces could pass through the shield at will, but are immediately subject to its speed-altering effects while inside. The degree to which the effects are applied can be changed instantly at the will of the Mom pilot, and increased levels of an associated skillbook would allow for a wider range of velocity boosts and reductions.
3. EWar Shielding: Everyone inside the shield gets a huge degree of protection from EWar fired at them from outside the shield. Ships inside the shield cannot activate EWar or remote repping modules against ships on the outside.
4. Capital Mobile Warp Disruptor: gigantic version of the Hictor mobile bubble.
5. Doomsday Shield: Must be loaded with a script corresponding to the damage type done by a particular DDD. Negates all damage to ships inside the shield from that type of DDD.
Just my thoughts though.

What about ships that require more than one person to operate them....i realy think this should have been done with titans....one person to pilot, one to navigate, one for repair systems, one for weapons systems, one for counter measures etc. This would bring a whole new level of teamwork to EVE, not sure how hard it would be to implement it though.
