Just downloaded the game on steam then reactivated my account. Tried to launch it and all I get is this.

No menus, no interface, hitting esc doesn't bring up the options, etc. The only thing I can do is alt tab and use the task launcher to terminate. |

Forget Steam. Get the client from the EVE website. Your screenshot shows "Incarna" and you need a much newer version called "Crucible".
You can get the client here: http://community.eveonline.com/download/
By the way, the EVE website is utter crap. One cannot find the download page anywhere. |

I have notified people over a potential problem with the steam client.
In the meantime I can only offer you generic "Have you tried turning it off and on again?" advice: Clear your EVE Cache and Settings folders, make sure your display and sound drivers are up to date.
Sorry for the inconvenience. ~ CCP Prism X EVE Database Developer If anything in this post was informative or could be considered as 'good news' to you - chances are you've misread it. |

There was around 50,000 items in there totalling 2gb. I should probably have done that more often. |

i've just pulled down the eve client from steam and other than having to patch from Incarna to Crucible, everything seemed fine.
i'm more inclined to think this is a problem with you're client rather than whats available on steam. can you run the client again please with logserver running and file a bug report. we can then check it out further. |

scratch what i just said, would rather try one other thing 1st.
in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\eve online\bin\DirectX (change to whatever drive you have as your OS drive) you will find DXSETUP.exe. can you run that and then try again please.
i suspect that you dont have the correct version of directx installed that we need. normally the full installer handles installing directx, but it seems this isn't done through steam.
if this doesn't work, then we need that logfile. |

I managed to get the repair tool to run and that patched the game to the latest version, which worked. Thanks though. |
