Why can't there be a double multiplier for those online compared to offline time. What is the motivation to play constantly when your waiting days for skill upgrades whether online or off. I ask you EVE give those of us who are starting to join the ranks of the elite without having to wait years!!!

While in SPEND I'd be logged in and AFK for ridiculous amounts of time. I shouldn't be rewarded for such behavior tbh. And no, new players shouldn't be rewarded for it either.

Indeed. It's much better when people log in and AFK train.

The others have already covered the evils of rewarding AFK connections.
But one more problem with any attempt to help new players climb faster is that you end up rewarding the veterns far more than the true new comers.
Increasing training speed allows veterns to widen the gap further. Even if by some mechanic you limit the increased training to new characters, you simply help the veterens create specialized alts, while the new players search to find their direction in Eve.

Agree with the other comments on why this would be a bad idea.
Just to add another - how do you plan to schedule skills when you're at work? Right now, I can work out just when my skill is due to end. Under your scheme, I'm likely to end up losing up to 8 hours of skill training due to a skill ending later than I thought or earlier.
How about we just leave things alone, eh?

oooooo.... I know, lets have a system where your skill goes up faster if you use it. Like, if you kill an NPC rat with a torpedo, your torpedo skill gets a little boost.
Hmmm... come to think of it, this has already been done, hasn't it?

No offence but it is pretty much only noobs who complain about the way skills train in EVE, its only a pain at the start of the game for all those short skills after that its smooth sailing.
Dont mess things up for everyone else because you dont like how it works. -----------------

No, it only gives you practical knowledge of how the torps work. For instance, it teaches you not to shoot frigs with them.

I would prefer skill training times be increased for EVERYONE.
Which would lead to stuff like corp wars happening faster for young corporations. Afaik, a small corp would need at least six months to train much needed combat skills, with the current skill training progression.

nope, can't think of any game that's done that.
not sure it would work either, it'd lead to people just sitting there clicking targets repeatedly in order to grind up skills.
at least in eve you can concentrate on grinding money while your character skills by themselves, which is clearly completely different and superior. your idea? it'd never catch on. - - - i am a humble and inefficent ammo to dps converter |

Sorry, I was being sarcastic. What the OP is asking for, basically, is a way to grind "XP" like you do in other games so that you can train faster if you play 23/7.

Ive got an idea.
Make skills train twice as fast if you are logged OFF. That will fix the servers in no time!

I'd post the same arguements many players (newbies and veterans) who have a clue as to why CCP made their skill system this way would say, but for the sheer failness of the thread itself:

Might be interesting to allow a scaling training multiplier for characters below a certain SP threshold... like it's easier to learn when your head isn't already full of all kinds of crap. Help new characters reach a level of specialization faster.
Would also be nice if you could "forget" SP's to either drop back below that threshold, or get a slight boost towards retraining those points if applied towards the same primary and secondary attributes as what you've untrained... so the time isn't completely wasted.

Edited by: Korizan on 24/09/2008 03:24:37 Sorry no.
Why should people be rewarded in training time for being logged in 23 hours a day ? The training system is set up to stop power leveling.
Why would CCP want to add it in and be like every other MMO. In my opinion power leveling is one of the worst aspects of every other MMO

No, just stop, they go through the same thing every other player has gone through. Its a stupid argument, an alt that has specially trained for interceptors for 4 or 5 months will be just as good with interceptors as a "vet", so stop making it out to be some hellish prison that they can never climb out of.
suck it up, train the skills

Why do i keep seeing this stupid idea pop up?
Are you not getting the general "consequence of action" theme of EVE? You are forced to live with every choice you make in this game, skills included.
The idea not only sucks, but its against the grain of everything EVE-like.

We already have something like this.

One of the reasons I like Eve is the non-grinding of skills. If I log in one hour a month or one hour a day it doesn't affect skill progression.

This is just a very wild guess on my part, but how about something along the lines of "Because playing the game is fun"? If you're only paying for this game to train skills and dreaming about having tons of SP... Then I guess it is still the perfect game for you as well, hmm...
Originally by: Irishmouf I ask you EVE give those of us who are starting to join the ranks of the elite without having to wait years!!!
Here is what you do: become good at one thing, something immediately attainable such as flying tackler frigs. Send an application to an elite corp. You can't create a Jedi right from the start, but the beauty is that you don't need it. _______ Griefing is to ruin a friendly game, which Eve is not. |
