So I hear a DVD called "Obsession" is being widely distributed for free in the US. The number of 18 millions copies has been advanced.
The content of this DVD is basically a reminder of major terrorist attacks in hte last years, and a call to hate Muslims.
What do you US residents think about it? Are you letting this textbook example of propaganda change your vote intentions? ------------------------------------------

I've heard of this DVD myself, and frankly, the content is basically hate and racism.
Also, you do realize you are discussing material that in itself, is controversial to begin with?

Edited by: Slade Trillgon on 24/09/2008 12:01:02 I have not seen or heard of it. But I tend to fall into the crowd that said, after the initial shock of 911 subsided, that it could have been much worse and I am surprised it had not happend more frequently in previous years.
If I run into someone handing it out I will open up a line of discussion, as I do with anyone that tries to slap propoganda in my face, and hopefully shed some light into their cold and shallow world.
Unfortunately to many people/sheep, are swayed and led on by news/propogand. They always have and they always will

I live in the US and have never heard of it. So apparrently it's probebly not THAT common. Also I wonder how many people took it thinking it might be interesting, watched 5 min, and threw it out. _______________

Before taking up news its always good to check who is supplying it.
Clarion fund is the organisation distributing this. Wiki says:
Quote: Clarion Fund is a nonprofit organization founded in 2006 based in New York City whose mission, according to its website, is "to educate Americans about issues of national security," with its main focus on what it calls "the most urgent threat of radical Islam."[1] The organization was founded by Israeli-Canadian film producer Raphael Shore[2].
Should telll you enough.

You realise that the crazy part is that propaganda is what often starts these racial wars. Then when the other side takes offence and attacks, the makers of this propaganda create more with "We told you so" implied.

I've never heard of it myself, but it doesn't sound like something most people in the US would ever buy into. Most likely they are distributed by mail, or on tables in public places and such. Just because 18 million have been distributed doesn't mean 18 million have been watched.
From what i've seen, there is very little anti-Muslim sentiment here, the media has people tired of foreign policy. Even the war is taking a back burner to what i consider less important issues.

Ok...
1) Muslim is NOT a RACE. Islam (adherents of Islam are called "Muslims") is a RELIGION that spans the globe, counting many millions of people's of all races and colors among it's ranks. Therefore RACE isn't really an issue here.
2) "Obsession" is a movie intended to inform people about the more radical and dangerous sects within Islam, and how those sects have, do, and will threaten the freedoms we in Western Democracies all enjoy. RADICAL Islam (as opposed to moderate Islam) is dangerous, and seeks to impose a tyrannical theocracy across the globe. Obsession talks about this.
3) Disseminating 3rd party verifiable information in movie form is no more propaganda than a math textbook. Although it is, perhaps, a tad more interesting.
I've seen Obsession and I can tell you that there isn't anything in there about Radical Islam that I wasn't already aware of. I thought it was insightful, well written, well directed and with high production values. I recommend watching it, and then judging for yourself before making baseless "Oh, you are just a bunch a Raaaaaaaacists!" charges.
Let's be honest: If it really IS just mindless propaganda, then I'm sure YOU (and most folks here) will be smart enough to figure that out by watching it. Refusing to watch based on assumptions just shows a lack of intellectual rigor.

Another US resident here whos never heard of it.
But its probably not as bad as people are complaining about, things rarely are as bad as anyone thinks (that goes for the people complaining about the video, and also the people who made the video). The bad things nobody notices ^___^

Ditto.
And following are a few sights about terrorist groups that the US population have seemingly forgotten about; since they were all so innocent
Publiceye.org The National Alliance Active Hate groups listed by US state
I keep up with this stuff since I am a white male with a shaved head and consistantly get aggravated by ignorant racist whites about whether I am a skinhead and the negative reactions of minorities within my areas of wandering. Most of these all use religion to justify their practices and beliefs

Say anything that's not politically correct and you are labeled a hate group. That website is just a political tool. Put groups that most people recognize and would agree are 'hate groups' on it, and then list anyone you don't like in there with them. Suddenly they are a hate group no questions asked ^__^

I guess you have never really had a run in with a real group of racist ****s? And therefor have no real clue how important it is to keep a running tab on these militant ****wads.
