DX10 is a Vista-only technology (according to MS.) Since Vista didn't have the expected reception and most of the people are still using XP, it's wothless to push this technology.

Why would they bother messing around with Vista when they're putting maximum attention to Windows 7?

Maybe they should finish the move to DX9 before skipping along to 10…?

Sigh. Vista does not 'suck'. Tbh you make yourself look silly when you say that.
As long as you have the hardware to run it it's better than XP. It's more secure and the UI is more efficient (but can be reset back to XP if you want).
The only thing an end user can reasonably criticise Vista for is that it's not a huge improvement on XP. For an end user it's mostly just eyecandy and as usual a lot of people just don't like change. Luditism is alive and well.
As a software developer there's more to complain about..but TBH we brought in ourselves by being sloppy with where we put our data and how we used OS resources. Vista is just another step toward a proper safe environment and is only annoying because it keeps stopping us from doing something stupid..and no-one likes being told what to do.
So it's valid to say that DX10 is a bit dead at the moment because Vista uptake has been lack lustre but saying that Vista 'sucks' just betrays your ignorance.
It is a step up from XP if you have the hardware to run it and the UI is a lot more efficient once you get used to it. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Unless you are technically enough skilled to reconfigure the whole Vista client, yes, it sucks big time.

It is not trivial to port directX 10 to windows XP, it works completely different than directX 9.

Seriously. It's the new Millennium Edition.
So you're probably going to be waiting for Windows 7.

Ok to those who think they are so smart because they havent a clue about how it really works, Vista Does suck balls.
Also DX10 is NOT Vista Exclusive tech, they had to drop that part after nVidia Complained. It is more than possible to get DX10 for XP but M$ think they can use their monopoly to force everyone to Vista.

Well i don't really like Vista for some reasons, but it's not the new Windows Millennium at all.
I run Windows Server 2008 any day over Windows Vista.
And also yeah, i agree that CCP should fix the rest of the DX9 graphic before they are starting to think about DX10.
But haven't Microsoft told that DX11 will come out soonÖ?

Why use Vista when Server 2008 (Workstation) makes a great OS
The Gap between 98->XP was Needed, I got my Legit copy of XP day of release. The Gap between Xp ->Vista isn't needed for 99.9% of people.

Edited by: NightmareX on 24/09/2008 15:59:27 Why use Windows Vista when you can download Windows Server 2008 here and use it for 60 days, and then extend the trial to 240 days . Microsoft even tells you how to get 240 days with trial.
And by doing this some days before the trial days are out, you can get infinite time on Windows Server 2008. You can always do that right after you have installed Server 2008 to.
It's all up to you what you want.
And remember, doing that thing in the link to get infinite time is 100% LEGAL. Because you only disable one service and takes ownership / control over 3 files and then delete them.
It's nothing in the Windows OS EULA's that says you can't disable one service and delete 3 files.
And after you have installed Windows Server 2008, you can look at this very very usefull link, to get Server 2008 into the best Workstation OS ever.
Windows Server 2008 is running the same Core as Windows Vista (Windows 7 also use the same core as Windows Vista). So Windows Server 2008 does have DirectX 10.
To say it on what OS is the best, it's this. Windows Server 2008 -> Windows Vista -> Windows Server 2003 -> Windows XP.
Yes, i have been using all of those OS'es, so i know what's best of them .
This was more off topic though, but meh, i just had to say it when all of the noob Windows users says that and that Windows sucks.

How old are ya talkin? I was actually surprised when Myst (that's right, no roman numerals, the first one) ran peachy and didn't crash on Vista.
There might be a little light if you search, sometimes it might be a bizarre fix, but it may work.

Which is why it sucks - you need stupid amounts of resources to run it compared to XP. Teh world is not ready for teh Vista.
Originally by: Andrue For an end user it's mostly just eyecandy
Which again makes it suck - why would anyone wanna pay all that money and use up all those resources just for something that looks pretty. If I wanted to do that I'd buy a mail-order bride.
Problem is, your average Joe in the street will probably wander into a high-street store and buy whatever machine the commission-hunting over-keen salesperson pushes on them while bamboozling them with jargon, and most new machines now will probably have Vista on (I don't know this, I haven't wandered round a PC shop in a while, but all the adds I see are for machines with Vista on them), not knowing what they're actually buying. They could get better performance buying an older model with slightly lower spec and XP on it instead, and it'll probably last them just as long.

Yep, if I'm able to get X-com: UFO defense to run then there's hope for any and every computer game. No matter how old.
And when you first install Vista it's a bit annoying until you turn all of the things off that are there to keep people from doing stupid things. Once that's out of the way I've had no problems. To be honest though the biggest upside for me to having Vista over XP: Raid drivers are actually included. No more hunting around for that stray floppy drive i have laying in a box somewhere so I can hook it up just for the install every time I do a fresh format of my computer.
