RA have for reason taken it apon themselves to start sieging towers in great wildlands, weve had a few small engagments on poses, but most of them we let the towers go. then out of the blue they hit one of our main towers in m-m, this is a heavily defended tower so we leave them to put it into reinforced, the gunners put up a good fight trying to take one of the capitals down but sadly they do no succeed. FDN is ready for them the pos is full to the brim with pos gunners and we have capitals ready and waiting along with a good sized support fleet. RA turn up as expected start hitting the guns, we force their dreads into siege by dropping our own caps and warpign in the support fleet. turns into an epic 3 + hour fight with lots of capitals being explodeded
Quote: You forgot to mention that you guys lost 68 battleships....
Yes but we killed more capitals so the isk effeciency makes up for it , its hovering somwhere between 65%- 70% for fdn atm cant be sure exactly

Give it a week of RA dropping caps, DD's and fleets into Gt wildlands and FDN will hide in their stations due lack of ships to use. Battleships DO matter, as your members will have to field them many many times :D

jackaryas linked an incomplete picture.. for some reason our killboard split the fight across multiple summaries...
and yes - we did loose a lot of battleships - our cyno placement for both our dreads and the triage carriers certainly was not as precise as we would have liked.. our support would have had a much easier time of it if they had been supported by our triage as intended...
i have no idea why ra attacked this pos.. it is not a high value moon.. it is just the most heavily armed pos in our home system. it is the apex of a general offensive they have made into gw. they have targeted pos in and around 8dl, an area once occupied by xxdeathxx for complex and farming.
their reasons for targeting the pos in m-m, commiting around 30 capitals to kill a large minmatar tower of no strategical importance whatsoever is beyond me.
and btw - if they had the sense to target the large anchored bubbles early on they might have saved 50 - 75% of their fleet.. instead 1 pheonix belonging to ping9999 and one other carrier were all that escaped..
would be nice to see some input from red alliance in this thread..

Hehe. You are wrong. The lag was pretty bad. We had alot of people bringing the replacement battleships and got poped loading the grid after a few minutes (me inscluded).Even if you loaded the grid the lag was bad. The fact is that people stoped hoping for lag free batles and we do not complain annymore .

Because the battle lasted some three hours, the killboards battle summaries are split.
The whole fight isnt on one battle summary for either RA or FDN.
Combine the battle reports from both reports on both sides and check the kills and losses.
It was a very bloody battle for both sides. But I think the true outcome was clearly a significant capital ship kill advantage for FDN, while RA certainly killed many more of our battleships.

Good point. Actually those 2 should be added to RA losses. So it's ~21 capitals killed against ~26 capitals lost. Still a good fight.

RA dreads lost:
1. Farlat 2. Guy Gaal 3. Second Daos 4. Shoushpancheeck 5. Moresugar1 6. Osant (TG) 7. devnull 8. Link Sayrus 9. Freelancer'Spb 10. SteeLady 11. Mr4ex 12. ralphie tsingtao (TG) 13. Amfitaminka 14. Locust L 15. Komcor 16. drackar 17. Rastishka 18. Bars2004
RA carriers lost:
1. Topmaz 2. cikillu 3. Kirja 4. MacMyHe 5. Wolf Messing (TG) 6. Intra 7. Den MConan 8. Kait Pirvintin 9. Intrila 10. Maxyyy (TG) 11. Deiv Grogan
Terrorist Group (RA allies) are marked with 'TG'.
So total RA + friends lost 29 capitals.
Foundati0n lost 9 dreads and 9 carriers, along with 3 allied losses* = 21 capitals
*(I think Lafond from Electus Matari lost a Naglar which isn't on your board, so it might be 4 allied losses).
So Foundation and allies killed 29 - 21 on caps overall and 18-10 on dreads. FDN also held the field.
Good fight!

Great Wildlands has been home to some good fights lately and this was no exception. It's unusual perhaps to see so much POS fighting in an NPC region but the lack of cynojammers make it attractive for cap fleets to duke it out.
With a lot more cap kills, and especially 18-10 on dreads, I think it's fair to say we won the fight (holding the field too) though the cost was significant and RA fought to the bitter end. To some extent they had no choice in that (several of our carriers were anchoring t2 large bubbles to forces a decisive outcome one way or the other) but then nor did we.
The fight was so long that we actually missed the chance to loot a few of the early wrecks by the time our carrion haulers set about their grim task of picking through the remains
By the end the field had 50 capital wrecks.

the thing about being in FDN is you feel like your in FDN, not a corp in an alliance. It was a massive fight, i had to relog once when i couldnt target things. said i was in the pos shields and i was about 30km from the pos on my screen. but upon relogging i got a packet doesnt belong msg and i had to force eve closed and relog again. the entire time my fighters were still on a dread untill i warped and the fighters THANK GOD returned to my carrier. woot for bugs!

In the week, you mean? 100 BS lost in a busy(ish) week, but you've got to look at what gets killed. Still 52bil damage (just hulls) for 38bil lost in that week, and nice fights like the one described in this thread. And living in GW means no cynojammers, so caps are both killed and die in their ones and twos most days All gf

Not really. I lose only about 10 mil on a fully t2 fitted sniper bs loss(mega).
For most people this number won't be more than 30mil. You can lose 20 bs for each carrier kill and still come out ahead.

Yar, thats really my feeling - Some of my pilots actually make profit from losses due to corp policy i think, but we aim to cover rigs since most of my guys don't mission/rat enough to make their own.
Fact is, even if we assume every capital loss is insured (which sometimes isn't the case) and don't count the modules, its 300m lost on a carriers insurance - 25m Lost on a battleships, on sheer insurance losses alone you can lose 12 Battleships for one carrier.
68 Battleships < 9 Carriers in terms of insurance costs alone (like 1.3B vs 2B) - In terms of rigs and modules you have to consider a carriers full compliment of fighters (12m Each, which is equivalent to 10 rigs really), Capital modules (50m Each), T2 Fit and THEN its own rigs - And lets not start on dreads. The fact people keep coming back out despite losing their BS shows the general consensus on this.
To consider we killed 8 more dreads and the same number of carriers, well, we could have lost a hell of alot more BS and still came out ontop in terms of damage actually inflicted. Though, to be honest, we might have ran out of ships if we really pushed to that point because who the hell keeps ten spare fitted battleships lieing around

You forgot to mention that you guys lost 68 battleships....
Battleships are fodder, no one cares. Take it this fight was over a moon? Any info on what the build up to this was?
a few battleships are fodder and noone should care...68 though is kinda a friggin lot. Im pretty sure thats a noticeable amount....

funny then how some entities have folded just from a couple bs fleets getting DD......
they may not be equivalent to dread losses however they still matter.
Not really. I lose only about 10 mil on a fully t2 fitted sniper bs loss(mega).
For most people this number won't be more than 30mil. You can lose 20 bs for each carrier kill and still come out ahead.
I believe I specifically mentioned they werent even close to a capital loss, all I was saying was they are not irrelevant. if the pilot has 10-15 more fitted and ready to go in the station that is one thing. If the pilot can not aquire what he needs to fit out his bs where he is and has to do empire runs to equip ships, that is lost time refitting everything.
Not all alliances have multiple logistics titans moving stuff around.
also you didnt count rigs in your financial estimates (unless you only fit sniper bs with really cheap rigs or something) however as the foundation guys said they try and cover pilots rig prices.

I was sitting cloaked watching some of this fight and also tried to take out people on both sides in my Pilgrim..
RA took control over the fight from the beginning but as it was in FDN`s home system they could only watch people come back in new carriers and battleships non stop as the hours went..
As the last hour of the fight was going towards the end RA could not keep up with the losses the same way FDN could..
Something that should be mentioned too is that FDN also had capitals sitting right outside the force field behind the support fleet..During the fight i attacked 2 of em before RA attacked me and when the Chimeras went into armor they flew into the force field again..
This fight was won by FDN due to good tactical placement of the capitals, good fighting morale by the guys that came back and their insane amount of remote repping..
I dont say this often about FDN but today they gave a hell of a good fight vs RA..

Cheers. I see you ninja'd onto four kills on them and two on us, so we'll take that as a vote of confidence
We won the fight (more caps killed, 18-10 on dreads, held the field, etc.) but credit to RA too - they fought tooth and nail and absolutely to the bitter end.
There have been a few nice fights lately, though I think with 50 capital ships killed this makes it the biggest fight that Great Wildlands has seen thus far.
With lag being the hot topic at the moment, I'll weigh in with my 2 cents on that one. Certainly there was lag but it was not unplayable. I think accepting lag as the uncertainty principle of the Eve universe is part of the anticipation of a fleet battle. Granted, that's little consolation if you can't log back in. Yet, in much the way that seeing low fps on top end hardware in a first person shooter game often creates the 'illusion' of looking at a more powerful game engine, in the same way sitting with 400 people on an Eve grid gives the impression of being on the cutting edge of MMOs, with the hardware of the day creaking under the weight of the event.
And while that's not an ideal situation, it's still better than anything any other MMO can bring.
As I said in a different thread, I do look forward to the future when medium-sized gang tactics can be elevated to full size fleet combat without lag being a necessary factor in planning. But right now it is - and we just have to accept it in the same way as bad weather, Russian winters and mechanical failure.
From my perspective: my dread was perfectly flyable. My carrier alt couldn't reconnect to the game at one point for some 20-30 minutes but during that time it was possible to fight with a BS alt.
Finally, someone asked about the moon that this fight was on. No Dysp subplot powering this story, I'm afraid. The moon is probably made of cheese. This fight was just about having an epic scrap (we live in GW and we try and be good hosts).

RA has been near dead for a while now so nothing really impressing, all their decent pilots allready left.

Well I don't pretend to know the internal working of RA but R.u.S.H. is still in charge, they have 1500 members again. In my humble opinion they will remain a force in Eve for a long time to come - and by the way, nothing we do to them in GW will change that, that's not the point of this thread, this is a 'good fight' after-battle thread.

Indeed it has. I remember when I first started playing in 2005, one of the first threads I found on the forums was one proclaiming RA dead. That was when a 10 000 pilot coalition (-V-, LV, KOS etc etc etc, I actually did the math once, and ended up well in excess of 10 000 pilots in the anti-RA coalition) was attacking a RA that shrunk to 800.
RA was dead then, too.
Guess RA just never got the memo...
Or worse still, we're fighting space-zombies!

Guys lag isn't measured in fps. You can have a crappy computer and have 10 fps sitting alone in space.
