Any time I see someone use the word "predicated" in their post, I get ****ed off and stop reading it. Why is that, and does anyone else have an irrational hatred of typically non-offensive words?

Ahem... where the heck do you actually encounter that specific word ? There were exactly 53 hits (in over 880k threads and god knows how many posts) on the entire myeve.eve-online.com site at the time this post was made.

Why it is that way, I have no friggin clue. (Also I have no clue if you're serious) But ffs I know what you mean. I dont think there are many english words that give me that feeling, but I have some in my native language.
For instance there's a slang expression for "appetite". People use it a lot, but to me it sounds like gastric acid crawling back up the esophagus. I hate it with a passion.

Edited by: Saint Lazarus on 27/09/2008 15:50:25 Maybe you're homophobic and hate it cause it has "dic" in it.
Just a theory
And only thing that comes close for me is hating when people say loose instead of lose, not a grammer **** by any means, I typo alot myself but I know theres tons and tons of people out there who geniuely cant tell them apart and will often type loose out multiple times in the wrong context and each time it makes me want to scrape their eyeballs out with a rusty spoon.... -----------------

I hereby proclaim that this thread about the word "predicated" needs some more predication, probably on a predicated type of of basis.

Its legal, but its an ugly word. Four syllables to say "proclaim or state," a nonsense word.
