This is a long-shot, but...
A colleague of mine was talking about an Icelandic novel he was reading, something along the lines of 'it's the oldest piece of Icelandic fiction, translated into English, and semi-historical'.
I can't remember the exat details, but my collegue was saying that when characters left the plot in the book (they died, or they moved on), the book said something along the lines of 'Magnus Magnusson has left this saga and will no longer appear in it'.
Can anyone tell me the book? Specifically, I'm after the exact prose/grammar of people leaving the saga, so that I can write it into my colleague's leaving card.
Ta.

I think it might have been Njal's Saga

OMG Egil's saga:
"Grim was swarthy, ill-favoured, like his father both in face and mind"
It's so me.
I like how the old norse and Icelandic are very much alike, history rocks.
