I have been happy grinding away on level 4s making boatloads of isk till lately... now having gotten three tastes of pvp (batting .333) and trying (in vain) to start a 4th 1v1 - - - I cannot make myself run a mission...
Is it really possible to make a living in solo pvp? will I still be able to afford all the fun pixels I love so much - or am I stuck forcing myself to grind missions for isk....which I now freaking hate?
I know the disadvantages of a low sec status, but are there any really good advantages to getting it up high?
Cheers; flame on - I wear nomex

I don't mission or mine or rat in 0.0 and I get by. So yes it is possible. Depends on your success though, could be a tough week or month.
There is no actual advantage to having a high sec, only that you can kill more people without worrying about being stopped from going into 0.* sec system. _______________

The best reason of all..Everyone runs from the flashy red..but that guy with a +3.2 sec status obviously can't be a pirate.
No way!
Use this to your advantage to catch folks unawares.
Other than that...I suppose if you get your sec up high enough you could get jump-clones from concord...and less tax at their stations... --

Edited by: Varus Riaz on 28/09/2008 23:28:05 You can get by if you fly carefully, get lucky, and just don't spend too much.
Most of my isk cost doesn't go to replacing ships lost in pvp; it goes to me blowing the isk on a different ship/item.
It also depends on what you're flying. If you're doing frigates or cruisers, all it generally takes is one successful ransom/good loot drop to recoup what you spent on the ship. If you're talking unrigged t1 setups, even battleships and battlecruisers aren't too hard to replace. A good t2 fit+rigs on a battleship or t2 hull obviously takes a lot more successful pirating to sustain a loss.
Upside is that you can kill a lot more with the more pricy stuff. Get a nano HAC and 90% of your typically unorganized carebear/anti-pie prey will be powerless to kill you.

Get a decent cheap cruiser. Pick your targets. Get your scanning down. And be patient.

Get friends.
Solo PvP in a gang happy game gets things killed fast, but its generally you
Other than that, honoring ransoms (if you offer them), being picky about your engagements and fit cheapish in the beginning.

You'll hate yourself once you start getting locked down in Yulai - repeatedly. But on the other hand, if you like nanos, it's insanely fun to grid-tank faction police
