Within the next 12 months or so, I will begin training for a Chimera. Before you tell me to get an Archon/Thanny, I'm not really interested in an armor carrier for this character, and I have an unused Gallente capital alt anyways if I wanted one.
What I'd like to know is how best to fit a Chimera for PvP. I'd like to know what specific things I should be aiming for for fitting both a Non-Triage and Triage Chimera. This will be my first step into capital warfare, so I don't have any practical experience flying Carriers (despite the alt).
So far, what I understand about the Chimera is that capacitor is key. I've been told both to fill the lows with CPRs, but also told to fit a DCU in for tight situations. I've heard good arguments for both choices. For the mids, I'm slightly confused. All resists? Local rep? More cap rechargers or less?
The highs seems to change depending on Triage or not. I have been told to fit a heavy neut and smartbomb without triage. Is this good or derp?
So yeah. Noob looking to learn more about flying shield caps. Discuss. |

Where are you looking to use this carrier for PVP? The requirements in null sec, low sec, and WH space are very different.

Good point. I was thinking low-sec PvP since that's where we usually fight. But for good measure, would you be able to explain the differences for null versus low? |

Nope. But I'd be able to describe the differences between low and WH. It'll take me a little while because I'm at work and the build is not actually running right now (eg, I'm actually ******* off for once). In 20 words or less: fit 1 local rep and CPRs. The Chimera still has massive fitting issues for "vanilla" fits so you'll probably only get 2 RR on it. That's ok - fit a neut and a smartbomb.

Carriers are the ultimate logistic.
High resist (for the rr), high cap (not too much, there are others logis too), neut and smartbombs are only useful in smaller fleets.
It really depends on the situation and fleet composition though. |

Sadly the Chimera is only valuable for saving POS ops. If you don't have triage you are pretty much useless with regards to PvP and this specific carrier. |

Usual test sperg is wrong.
Chimera is great in PVP! Its resist bonus is awesome. Have another Chimera along as well though (at least 1 other) for shield reps. Archons can cap you both up if need be.
Me and a few other guys in 2 archons, a Niddy and 2 Chimeras fended off a 60 man mixed gang recently, was a heck of a lot of fun :)
Don't EVER use DCUs for combat. Carriers ARE logistics more than drone ships, and RR'ing each other and friendly ships is what they are all about.
IMO you should only use a triage when a) you are getting hammered by enemy ships b) repping of POSs/stations when the system is clear. Otherwise, forget it. RR with other carriers is preferred.
Just my thoughts on carriers.
PS. always carry 2-3 extra hardeners of each damage type too, so refitting them to fight off, say, an Amarr ship based enemy fleet is that much easier. The Apostle : I want a kangeroo Captain Kirk : Silly Austrians Sarmatiko : Let me guess: you're from US? Captain Kirk : Yeah Riverside IA - why? |

Wait, carriers can refit themselves in space? (Not a troll. I didn't know that) I thought they could only refit other ships. Woah.
Also, when I said DCU in the OP, I meant Damage Control. |

Ohh, yeah always fit a DC2 to a Chimera. Armour tankers can option it, usually a good safe thing to do though.
And yes, since they have a corporate hangar any ship can refit modules as long as it is within 2500 meters of any fleeted carrier. Remember though that Capital mods are 4k m3, so you can only take 2 spares at most. The Apostle : I want a kangeroo Captain Kirk : Silly Austrians Sarmatiko : Let me guess: you're from US? All of these advices seem to be trolls ...
For more serious answer you would find success in fitting dual MWD and nanos on a shield carrier .. single LSE and dual invuls should be enough tank.
Dual MWD because then you can use manual boost cycling for 200% more mwd power .. you can even try 3 of them if you think you have the micromanagement skills needed. For pvp 2 is recomended thou since you need to do other things too like manual piloting to keep up efficient orbit.
Rest of the slots fit for personal taste. Might want to put some salvagers on highs for example ... no reason to let those unsuspecting fools to keep their wrecks. |
