So from what I can figure Dust 514 will be a straight console game on the worst console known to man.. No PC? No 360? WTF is dust 514 if you cant play it on Kinect? Mainly all I care about is that it will be on PC, could really care less about console games

Xbox live's DLC and transaction restrictions are much more strict than the PS3s, this is why you don't have steamworks on 360. Since Dust is very heavy in micro-transactions, this is probably why it isn't cross platform. |

In order to obtain funding to finish development they let Sony buy exclusive rights.
Considering that console games on the average last a year at most, they aren't really planning on EVE or DUST lasting past the release of WoD. That's my opinion anyway. |

I don't know I think EVE will last, Dust might or might not I think they are just testing the waters so to speak. But limiting it to just console is a bad idea by it's self. It would last a whole hell of a lot longer on PC, even if it died on console.
WoD looks like filler BS game, what the hell vampiers really?

I'm an old Xbox fan, and 2-3 years ago I would have agreed with OP. However, since they announced Dust 514 will be PS3 only I have been reading up a bit on that console, and it's not half as bad as I thought, actually it seems to be pretty good.
PS: Kinect and all that **** sucks.

This thread looks a bit troll-y but.. whatever.
While the lack of a PC version is a bit curious.. it hasn't been ruled out so far as I understand.
As for the lack of an XBox version, well, you can blame Microsoft for that. Before CCP were taken on by Sony, they were already saying they only intended to make a console release. The developers did try for an XBox version, and then ran head on into the same rules every other online start-up hits on XBox Live. I believe their words when this first came up were something along the lines of, "We're looking into a release on all the major console platforms, but are having difficulty reaching an agreement with Microsoft.'"
Unless you are a company that Microsoft really, really want in their pocket or to break someone else's monopoly on (IE: Squaresoft at the time of Final Fantasy XI) you will not be allowed to manage your game's DLC and patches through your own servers, and you will not have full control over your game's payment system. And you most certainly won't be allowed to cross-platform, especially not to another game entirely on a set of third party servers and especially not one operating on third party servers on the PS3.
Bash the PS3 all you like, but there's no way in hell DUST 514 would release on XBox as anything but a closed-network shooter - which really would doom it to total failure given that breaks everything that makes it vaguely special. Whatever the issues with the PS3, by signing on with Sony, CCP basically got paid to do what they'd have had to do in the end anyway (so long as they continued to insist on not working with a PC version anyhow). |

Doesn't really matter, made for console and ported to PC won't make a good PC game, for the last few years its been ok with the PS3 and 360 being almost in the same league, but look at things like BF3 and you'll see games are going into another golden age when they are developed for PC then nerfed for console consumption.
Just buy Planetside 2 if you want a persistent online shooter, although I have nothing to base it on (other than planetside) If I had to chose now I'd say it'll probably be the better game. |

Sorry Arin Fensfield for not making my post nerdy enough as to not sound "troll-y" thx btw for a non existant term.
I hate Xbox and PS3, the PS3 is an expensive Blue Ray player... Has been sinces it's "development", on top of that you can only get the crappy anime games except for some titles like COD or whatever.. FPS sucks on console, hate two little knobs and a D pad, even if you can use the PS3s Harry Potter magic wond blue bubble thing I don't think it would be very good.
They should have just made DUST an aspect of EVE, insted of a PC game and a Console game just make a new option under the char creation screen. You will have Capsuleer and some thing like Mercanary or Soilder whatever.
Or better yet do what Star Trek Online attempted to do but ultimately failed at and make a game with RPG space combat and FPS ground combat (even to therse is RPG/Shooter Mode combat which is fail)..
Both these options would greatly incresse EVEs player base and CCPs Income. |

By the time CCP pushes WoD the vampire hype will be over (look at Matrix). Im sure CCP will make a dark kick ass game like EVE used to be but by then it will only cater to a niche die-hard community and CCP will be forced to milk that game too to finance their next project.
They finally need to see that focusing on one project at a time and stable growth is better for the sake of their own business instead of acting like a capitalist on crack.

100% agree with you!! Thats why I am saying if they just integrated DUST into Eve it would be very sucessful, have two career paths, either be a RPG Pilot or a FPS ground soilder.. or be able to do both with the same char.. that Vampier BS is pretty gay anyway.. |

You only have to look at games like Global Agenda and APB to see what a problem aimbots have become. And being F2P would you really want a bunch of aimbotters to enter into the game and make it completely one sided. Unless CCP come up with some way to deal with them then you may as well forget about having an enjoyable experience playing Dust514 on the PC.
Deviana Sevidon wrote:I expect a PC version of Dust being announced soon after the number of console players begins to dwindle, I am generous when I expect that to happen within 6 month after the release
I have to agree, the consolers tend to succumb to 'New Shiny Syndrome' pretty fast and I can't see them playing Dust514 full on for very long. They will start logging in less and less as other games are released. My belief is that a core of people will remain loyal to Dust514 and I'm betting that most of them will be EVE players.
All in all I think it will be interesting to see what transpires overall, I just hope that EVE and CCP are not adversely affected if things with Dust514 start to go pear shaped. A new game concept in an unknown market is always a risk to a company, only time will tell with this one. |

Except WoD is a over 20 year old popular franchise and it's popularity is not based on the current vampire fad. Vampire the Masquerade:Bloodlines was a buggy unfinished game and yet people still loved it to death due to the strength of the franchise. And it still has a large following even 7 years later. If the MMO captures the feeling of the world and has proper gameplay suitable for the rules of the world then CCP will have nothing to worry about as alot of WoD players will easily get onboard. And from what I read CCP is aiming for, they are on the right track. |

I see nothing wrong with how CCP is running their business so far other then the normal problems that MMO developers run into with content simply not being delivered fast enough. Not even Blizzard can keep up with the rate that their players play. Of course, the Eve Online community is without a doubt the first time I have ever seen some in the community become shocked and appalled by the notion that the developers are using subscription funds to fund other games where in other communities this sort of behaviour by developers is considered normal and expected. |

I'd buy Dust514 if they released it for the PC with a suitable control scheme. I won't buy it for any console whatsoever.
If they won't release it for PC, then I won't cry a tear though. I'd be pleased to see it, but to me the probability of that happening is about 5%, and certainly not simultaneously with the console release. |

This. Eve players are the most entitled bunch of aspies this side of the Milky Way. Not only do they want everything for almost nothing, but they also expect to be able to tell the company what to do with the pittance they DO shell out, and that's assuming they're not paying in isk.
As far as Dust goes, CCP mentioned a while back that the decision to go to console was because they didn't want the same players doing all the work. They wanted a cross-genre cooperative movement, rather than eve players providing orbital fire support and supply drops to their Dust alts on the ground. Microsoft backed down on Dust, because it would have been too much work for what is, in their minds, a very ambitious project. |

I absolutely love the idea of the game, and always play some kind of FPS when taking a break from EvE. I was pretty disappointed (2?) years ago when they first announced Dust would be console only, as I'm a PC gamer all the way. Thankfully I didn't purchase a 360 since then, as I'd be doubly pissed. I STILL haven't bought a PS3, waiting for information to leak that there might be a PC release date shortly after the PS3 sales starts to slow down.
I've seen every video released with interviews about Dust. Each time the interviewer asks a CCP Dev about whether the game will eventually release on PC, their response is: "We are focused on the PS3 exclusivity, but who knows what the future might bring." [paraphrased]. So I assume there will ultimately be a PC release, but I think I'm too excited for the game to wait that long.
My only hope is that micro transactions in that game aren't going to be pay-to-win, and that the gear/vehicles/weapons are all build-able from EvE and from Dust from existing processes and materials and not just manifested from a NeX store. If they do that, I know several of my buddies that won't even give the game a chance, and it might include myself. ESPECIALLY if the crap is priced 10x what I'd prob b okay paying, like the current NeX. I mean, FFS, if they made all this NeX crap 1/10 the price, and allowed it to be destructible, I'd totally embrace it. |
