Yesterday I lost a Advance Beam Laser Crystal. Some people dont know it, because in the game that type of crystals recive damage from using and I made a petition and the GM told me how this works. But now I have to please ask to you CCP: Write in the description that advanced crystals get gone with time, so people dont feel ****ed off by something they dont know. Please!

That's actually a reall darn good point. 'get gone with time' might not be how I would state it, but yes, they should say that they are only useful for a limited time or something along those lines. Crystals break over time. Simple enough. :P

A simple "Crystal gets damaged with use." in all appropriate crystal descriptions should suffice. It'd be just a bunch of copy/pastes really. Updating the database for it would probably take longer, heh.

I send a petition because I thought that it was a glitch, and wanted my crystal back (I dont wanted to pay again) and the GM who contacted me sayed that, that this problem was a lot normal. But you know he told me to say this here.

i used the crystals, and saw that the numbers next to "crystal damage" were going up. so i thought to myself "huh, its probably gonna break when it hits 1.0, eh?". jesus, its pretty damn obvious that if a crystal is talking damage its gonna break eventually. the game mechanic of "item takes damage, when enough damage accumulates, it breaks" has only been here for over a decade..... - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |

It wouldn't hurt to beef up the description to make this clear though. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... Environmental Effects

Except when they don't. T1 laser crystals don't break. It's not obvious when you first go to faction or T2 if no-one has told you, because T1 crystals also have damage listings, they just don't change.
It's always a good thing if that EVE learning curve is reduced by making things a touch clearer. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... Environmental Effects

Edited by: Ghengis Tia on 03/10/2008 16:40:57 The first time I realized faction crystals eventually get used up was during an engagement in deadspace.

simple solution, make t1 crystals take damage as well... bring them in line with all other types of ammo. You still get to almost never reload... ç¦ |

Why would changing an items stats be less complex than the OPs suggestion ?
Balance would also be an issue. How long would you want a T1 crystal to last before burning out ?
How should CCP deal with the increase in ISK value that the increased demand for crystals will bring ? Or the decreased supply since if someone wants to get rid of an Amarr ship, they can no longer sell the crystals back onto the market.
What about the people who don't read the patch notes and then file a petition when their T1 crystal suddenly breaks, leaving them unable to defend themselves ? For instance, if someone is gone for a few months they could easily miss the notes describing this.
What about the extra load on the servers because they now have to roll another random number every time a T1 crystal is fired ?
By contrast, adding a line about them taking damage to the crystals description has none of these issues because it isn't changing any gameplay mechanics. It's just informing people about them.

They could probably write a script to modify all the descriptions. If not, I'd hate to be the guy who has to manually change each description.

i cant remember who said it first, was someone on these forums:
"i lol when someone thinks a computer finds maths hard"
the extra load on the servers due to the crystals will be almost nil my friend, rolling psudo-random numbers is what a computer is best at. - PvPers always say "GB2WoW". the message is that EVE is hard, and people just need to deal with it. wasn't it funny how when nano's started making it hard for *them*, that all went out the window? |
