This could be given to either the tier 3 BS or tier 2 BC.
Simple: the ability to warp into a set coordinate or simply a direction. They would have faster warp drive than any small ship out there. And will be mainly used to really explore space, or build hidden mini stations 100s of AUs away.
Crappy idea, but i like it ;D |

Way too overpowered. It would make scan probes obsolete since you'd be able to warp to anyone just by using the directional scanner and a bit of trigonometry.

didn't think of that. aren't scanner fast anyways? and directional scanner had a limit of 14-15au. normal probes for that range will be a lot faster.
So think. |

hardly. with good skills, implants etc you can get it down to 25 secs or something in a cov ops ship, but for your average player, probably 90 seconds or so id say....?
i could crack out the old pythagoras' theorem long before then. |

Your over estimating the ability of a player to accuratly target someone from thier scanner. Lets suppose you are exceptionally skilled with the scanner, and you not only narrow down a target to a 5 degree scan, your so skillfull you can accuratly use the 5 degree scan to narrow down a ship to a 1 degree cone. At 10 AU that 1 degree cone will cover hundreds of grids. Certainly given a few warps and rescans, you would eventually ferret out a ship, but unless you started very close to it, a scanner probe would almost certainly be faster.
There are other issues with a free warp, involving extremely deep safe spots and making bubble evasion easier... ç¦ |
