when you first started the game, how did you think the EVE universe would be like? like did you think it was about making all the money you possibly could? did you think it was a game of race vs. race when you first saw the intro movie, what influenced you to be the race that you are? ect.
when i first started eve, i kind of went by the info i could find on it (mainly wikipedia) i was thinking about trying out my first MMO and typed in MMO in wikipedia, and saw eve, and apparently picked the right one
but when i first started it, i saw the intro, and took all that i had read from wikipedia about it, and kinda formed my own image of how it was like
my view of EVE was that it was kinda something like a Star Wars type of universe, harsh, every man for himself no teams, and take no prisoners
when i saw the Tristan flying above the city when (in the intro) they were talking about the gallente, i figured you had to like build your own ship, (dont ask me why that popped into my head, lol) and that they were semi hard to kill, kinda like ships were hard to come by in-game, build it yourself, or custom order it from a ship builder or something
i thought no where was safe at all, that at any time you could undock and just because someoen didnt like your name, they could blow you out of the water w/ out consequences of any sort, and these kinds of things are what brought me to the game
now needless to say, the way i imagined the game wasnt the way it turned out, and tbh, for a while, i was kinda . . . meh to the game
i picked the gallente race, because first and foremost, when i heard "established the FIRST democratic republic of the new era" i thought AMERICAN (of which i am a proud citizen) and picked them
it was also the background picture, of the city in the back, kinda reminded me of that scene from Star Wars episode II, where obi-wan kenobi went into the bar to get a drink, and out of nowhere, someone offers him some drugs (kinda like in america as well if you think about it), a sinful place, could get mugged on any block ect. (i knew you couldnt walk on planets or anything, but just listening to the description, the gallente race just appealed to me)
so, how did you first take EVE when you saw the intro, when you picked your character, why? ect.
TIA

we're drifting into out-of-pod, but c'mon. whites owning blacks in a place called AMARR. it was probably a draft name that was supposed to change later (prolly like the gallente french comment), but they never got around to it, and voila, it's canon.

The eve universe isn't just what I thought it was, but even better.
I chose Amarr because I like lasers, and because I thought they were the drone-centered race at that time. but I was glad when I found out they are still use drones more than Caldari. ------------------------------------- Total tractor beam overhaul/engine strength |

Yeah... And the whole having emperors, "old world" feel and a religion suspiciously like Catholicism just SCREAMS America....
Don't be an idiot.
Anyways.
I started Eve in Beta 7. I chose Caldari because even though I liked Gallente the best in terms of ships and fighting style, the male gallentes looked like metrosexual fairy boys. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Brought to you by the letter ARRR!" |

and AMARR is close to America because it shares some letters? Wow, great job there. And CCP just "forgot" to change it? Rofl. Keep it up there, man. I thought it was a good idea to put points into charisma after selecting a race with high natural charisma.
Well, that certainly worked out, didn't it?

he does prove a point though
the way i see the races in-game are like this:
Amarr = extremist muslims Caldari = 18th and 19th century british (all about the money and assets) Gallente = America (first democratic republic of the new era) Minmatar = Africans (does that need explaining)
and iirc, not all the minmatar are black, plenty of white minmatar to go around

Brutor are based off of Pacific warrior cultures like the Maori, actually. People figured they were "black" as in sub-Saharan African because, well okay they do kinda look like Morpheus from The Matrix, but also because the Minmatar were the slave race. This topic is addressed briefly in the Art of Eve book.

I picked Amarr because they were the religious zelots and had really pretty ships. Made a Caldari because ECM was fun and really suited my playstyle. Made a Mini character because I like the sound of 1400s. ----

Amarrians are a blend of all the religious nutjobs we have on this planet. Throw in some slavetrading and you get mighty interresting people.
Gallente is kinda European-like. Have actual freedoms (not just led to believe so while being subject to arrest without charge or trial if deemed a "potential terrorist", subject to surveillance without charge or court orders etc etc), likes their drugs, sex and generally liberal ideas.
Minmatar is a blend of Africa/Indians etc etc, basically the tribal cultures
Caldari are Japanese. Without the quality TV entertainment.

I did just start EVE a month ago. I started playing cause my good friends (one of them my best) did. They said it was good and their opinions are rarely wrong.
It turns out I'm enjoying the game. I didn't read anything about the races before I started, but I'm glad I picked Caldari because I love shield tanking. I originally picked Caldari because they have the hottest men haha.
I never even thought that there was PvP in this game until I saw all the goonswarm videos. I don't personally PvP at all because the one time I did, I lost my ship that I saved up for for 2 weeks and had to go back to level 2 missions because I couldn't afford a ship for level 3's that I was running.

Then I wanted an even more evil pirate/griefer char so I went with the fascist caldari
