I used to use a small smartbomb in the spare high but it got me concorded so i dropped it :p
I gave a good myrm pilot a damn good run for his money in this pre-myrm nerf, in the end the deciding factor was me running out of cap booster charges.
edit: I prefer resists and a booster over a buffer tank, I just dont get along with buffer tanks

Your fit depends on weather or not you got AWU 4 or 5 I got 4 so I go with this:
High: 7 HAM II:CN Terror Mid: y-t MWD, x5, WD II, 1x photon II, 1x Invul II, 1x LSE II Low: 3x BCU II, 1x PDS II.
Rigs: 2x Extender, 1x Thermal
Drones: Warrior II's.
If you got awu v, you can switch the PDS for a DCU II for more HP and resists. Obviously you will have to drop the WD II for best named due to CPU issues. But if you don't have that much isk for the extenders. Then go with 2x EM 1x Thermal resist rigs and then in mids switch the Photon II for another Invul II.
Then go out and I guess make big holes in Cane Hulls? -Helfix

Tbh i only have bc iv and avw iv which means unless there's no alternate route i'd prefer to run 3 bcus (although it's looking like i might not be able to) with a reasonable tank, single extender feels quite flimsy to me even if i know it works and i lack the grid to fit two (awu iv ftl ). Why the injector? it's not necessary for the tackle or tank really? Looks more like waste of grid and reduction in available cargo capacity? |

I have had great success with the following setup:
7 x HAM II w/ CN Scourge and tech 2 long range missiles in the hold. 1 x (offline mod for overloading)
1 x LSE II 1 x EM Hardener II 1 x Invuln Field II 1 x Web (named or faction, faction makes a huge difference) 1 x Disrupter II 1 x 10mn MWD II
3 x BCU II 1 x PDU II
3 x CDFExtender
5 x Light ECM Drones
IMHO, only the Nano-Sac and Ishtar are more viable solo-ships than a HAM drake right now... |

only me got an injector on there so im assuming this has been punted my way.
injector runs the mwd and the booster after the cap warfare starts.
I always assume im going to be running with no cap from about 30 seconds into a given fight, hence booster. |

This is just about the best balance of gank/tank ive ever come up with for a Drake, without haveing to rely on expensive extender rigs. (Resist rigs are a mere 3 mill each , extenders more like 14). As posted the setup needs AWU 5 and a 3% Pg Implant, juggling named stuff brings those requirements down.
7x HAM II, 1x Small Neut (or an offline mod for overloading)
10MN MWD II, Warp Disrupter II, Webber II, 2x LSE II, Invuln II
DCU II, 2x BCU II, RCU II
2 x Em and a thermal reist rig.
Gets like 75% ish resists across the board, 500+ DPS with CN missiles and about 80K EHP overall. Has full tackle kit and will end up being faster and more agile than the usual plated/armor rigged setups the other races use. Which is an unusual situation for a Caldari ship but one which you should exploit to your advantage. And alaways carry Javelin's for when stuff starts orbiting at 20km.

If cap becomes an issue on a HAM Drake, chances are you're already dead and just don't know it yet.... |

and this is the price you pay for running non-cookie cutter setups
personal preference. all the drakes here run a buffer, i dislike buffers, hence active tank hence cap. easy rly. |

I'm curious what your fighting that is capable of tanking your dps long enough that your cap gets low but doesn't do enough damage to break your active tank (hence giving your cap time to run out) yet you are able to eventually break its tank..... other than maybe another active tanked drake
also, passive tank != buffer tank, very different |

If you're willing to give up the web, you can also swap the PDU for an RCU and then use a 2nd extender in the midslot where the web would go. |

Your fit requires an ANCILLARY CURRENT ROUTER.
That makes it more expensive and less effective than a 'cookie cutter' fit.
They're not cookie-cutter for a lame reason - they're effective at teh task setup.
Go ahead set up an active tank drake with an ancillary current router, which costs as much as 2-3 extender rigs. Its really not effective.
If you must try an active tank - a small faction shield booster can sorta work on a drake.
Id still stick with buffer. |
