I've seen patch notes that say the windows will stay put, etc but I'm still having issues and have now for at least 9 months.
When I log out and log back in, if I have a cargo window open, the chat window moves to the top of that, auto sizes, then my local window (separated) gets stacked on top of that. Why? I know that in the past they CCP has posted about fixes to the UI and this seems to have fixed the drone/overview/item windows but I still get windows to auto-snap and size. Another example is if you put the items window in the top left corner then put the market there too, log out and back in and the windows split the screen.
So I'm going to first assume I don't have some settings set right. My local and chat windows are pinned, so I'm not sure why they are moving. Is there a setting that I can change for this? I am using the classic client so maybe this is it? I have snap distance set to 3, only stack windows with shift, and lock when pinned selected.
Secondly, does anyone else have this happen? I'm surprised that this has been around for so long yet hasn't been fixed, (which is why I'm thinking it's my settings), or is this an old client/new client issue?
Any help or specifics would be great.
Thanks

There are some bugs on my Premium client as well as classic...While they are very annoying, I've learned to ignore them and just move on...

I don't understand why they aren't addressing it. Is a petition the best way to get this noticed?

Friend, the UI is something CCP has never figured how to implement properly. While most companies seem to effortlessly create complex UIs that function stably and are user modifiable with ease, CCP struggles to have a UI that creaks along and doesn't lock up the client more than 10% of the time.
No, petitions won't help, bug reports don't help, CCPs reprogramming efforts don't seem to help. Given the same problems from years ago still afflict the UI today, I doubt anything but a complete rewrite will help --- and that won't happen anytime soon (if ever). Just grit your teeth and suffer along with the rest of us.

Most unintended movement can be avoided by never snapping one window to another. It will be okay as long as the window you are dragging is the first to close but if you close a window that another one is snapped to things go a bit wrong.
Simple rule:Keep windows either separate from each other or overlapping.
Oh this workaround does not constitute approval of the UI. CCP, FFS, fix it already! -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

this, sadly.
workaround, but not true UI fix. Hell, at least its better than a bog-standard UI that basically meant eyestrain if you used a widescreen and didnt take advantage of it. -

CCP called,
They said they were going to fix it but decided to work on Ghost Training instead. Also helping ISK Farmers. _

If this is the problem Im thinking of, I set my "snap" distance to 3 in that settings window when you hit escape. The default is 12 I think, and very anoying. At any rate, it stopped my windows trying to mate to each other all the time.

Yeah, I've done this too. I've also moved most of my windows not to places that don't snap to each other.
Well, I guess I'm not alone in this. Thanks for the replies. Maybe CCP will do something about it....someday.

Yup, as suggested set the 3 px snap distance then ensure there is a gap between all your windows and you will never suffer this bizarre bug ever again.
Sure it is a shame this is necessary but consider that having a UI gutter (gap) around the edge of your screen actually helps you locate celestials easier anyway so doobydoobydoo!
