The amount of money that will be lost when people decide it isn't worth ever subscribing an account will be hilarious.
People get bored with your laggy, frustrating game and they set a long skill, then they resubscribe giving you money. If they can't come back to something new they will never give you money.
Good luck with this. I guess my alt account will be canceled instead of resubscribed.

Inactive / expired accounts = unpaid accounts If you paying and not logged in, your skills continue to train.
Ghost training, that is training a skill while not paying for the account, is at best an exploit. We were getting something for free, and now we are not. Why should you continue to accumulate skill when you are not paying for it? I'm actually angry that this exists. I am quite appreciative that they retain expired account data for as long as they do to begin with.
Those skills that take really long to get are meant to be very hard to obtain, which will require commitment and investment at the expense of other skill areas. That means you are actually going to have make the hard choice between specialist and generalist. A game with hard choices; now that's refreshing!
Then your market orders and research points should stop as well. After all, with market orders up you can make money while your account is expired. With research points you can continue to accumulate them while your account is expired, and when you re-subscribe you come back to a fat amount of RPs that you can cash in for ISK. That is entirely inconsistent with the ghost training thing.
If CCP wants to remove ghost training then they should also remove market orders from inactive accounts, and stop inactive accounts from acquiring RPs.
Dividend payouts to inactive shareholders as well, those should be stopped.
QFT
yeah I totally agree that these research points and market orders should be on hold for the account inactivity time period.
Companies run by inactive accounts should also be foreclosed

So basically, as usual, someone decided to have a forum rep post about an insanely inflammatory negative change right before you try to soften the blow with some mediocre conciliatory feature?

DON'T FRIGGIN TELL ME THAT BECAUSE I TRIED TO BYPASS THE STUPID TIMESINK CALLED SKILL TRAINING BY PAYING FOR 3 ACCOUNTS THAT I SHOULD AT LEAST NOT GET ANY BENEFIT FROM IT!
I'm paying 300% over and get screwed hard after okt. 15th? Count me out!
Congratulations... I was paying for three accounts... when my sub ends in november I may not renew it at all... not even one of them!
If you are willing to actually pay for three acounts, then you should be fine. Its the people who are not paying for three accounts and still getting skill that are the problem.
no what I am trying to say is that I LOVE EVE but I have to take shortcuts so that I can get what I want (industry / pvp / pve)...
But in the time period of 3 months the cost of keeping up ONE eve account has risen by 30-40% percent (3month sub-> 2month sub + national currency sucks), and with this "feature" I will not be able to afford three accounts.
Sure I can spend my time and money with something "better" like friends and real life, things that do not take a 1 hour downtime but force me pay for 24 hours of "account readiness"...
The timesink called skilltraining could only be diverted by having multiple accounts with shifting on/off subscription.
As one guy before said: this was ONE of the main selling point for me in eve... If I wanted to have a game that needs my constant input, I'd convert myself to a 13 year old boy with pickles and would pay world of *eve*craft...
Seriosly... this game was not for those kind of people. If you want to balance something - balance those friggin' spider guys who ret their way up to the heavens of ISKmacro...

So I see people presuming this is about money, then saying that they will lose money. If anything, this probably tells me that this might actually be about balancing the game and NOT about money.
How does this balance the game? It makes advanced skills harder to get and it makes the player evaluate if its really worth it (rather than taking the easy way out and 'ghost training'). |

But see, it doesnt matter why, as that reason is obvious. It's still a bad change, why is that hard to understand? It doesnt matter what you think, you dont pay yourselves. If the playerbase thinks it's a bad idea, then we're the ones who stop paying

If that's true (and the blog will not only contain shit), you really should take some public relations lessons. Personally i don't believe, that you will come up with a good reason.

This is probably the single dumbest decision I've ever seen ccp make; not only does it hurt the whole playerbase, it will also hurt CCP itself financially. They'll end up making LESS money in the long run than otherwise. Frankly the only sensible reason I can see for them to do this is that they want to wring as much money as possible out of Eve before it dies; but even that doesn't make any sense since Eve (currently) isn't a dying game at all. More likely it's just a really stupid decision by some upper management type with very poor business sense.

No: FAIR!
Honestly, if you want to train, then you pay subscription!
If you have to leave, you stop training, when you wants to return, you return, and starts from where you ended! THAT is fair to those of us who do PAY and PLAY!
if this was WoW, and there was a way to somehow buy XP or slowly gain it while not subscribed somehow, what you're saying would perhaps make sense, but right now i'm going to go ahead and assume this is a just dumb troll

Guys, this is a mistake! The beauty of EVE is the "offline" real-time Skill Training, and the added bonus has always been that when life throws you a curve ball and you can not play, you could always set a long skill, and come back to that new shiny toy.
Fact is, you guys at CCP tried to pull this stunt during Dragon, anyone remembers? And EVE Community was re-soundly against it, by the looks of this thread, we are still against it. This will only alienate all the players who stuck with CCP through thick and thin, bad mistake.
This is a BIG MISTAKE, and you should reconsider it.

If it involves cutting Level 5 skill training times to 1/3 or 1/2 what they are now and implementing a skill queue, I'll be at least somewhat satisfied.
Otherwise you're down 4 paying accounts. I've never even done ghost training before, but the fact it existed gave me hope that I'd eventually have some decent characters. Without it, and with 8+ 30d skills I need to complete across my accounts, I'm not willing to continue.
I was building one of these accounts for a friend so he could play with me, and that was only viable when I knew I could ghost train some of the tedious level 5 skills his build needed. Not anymore.

We might as well all face the fact that CCP is a company. IT's shocking I know. Even more shocking is that as a company they want to make a profit so that they can continue to supply their services. Take a second if you need to absorb that fact. . . .Ok next fact is that the local economy in which CCP is based, and several other economies globally, are rapidly spiralling into the black abyss of failure. Now I'm sure you think you are doing CCP a solid favor by randomly activating and deactivating accounts but you really aren't. What you're really doing is screwing with their ability to project potential gain and losses and messing with their ability to decide on how to allocate their funds. Everyone answers to someone else when money is involved. . noone sits at the very top of the moolah pyramid. Bill Gates had people he had to answer to and he's got more scratch than most nations. So when the people at the top are getting nervous and want to know why they should continue to support a luxury item such as an mmo like Eve who doesn't hold a large market share of the industry they need some good information to present. Showing how the average account activation time is only one or two months followed by down times of indeterminable lengths doesn't instill a sense of security in your investors or people you owe money to. However, showing that people will consistently run two accounts continously (which seems to be what will happen with this shift as opposed to bunches of accounts popping on and off) shows stability and fiscal reliability. . EVEN if it is preceeded with a sharp decline in subscriptions. What this means in corporate lingo is that CCP doesn't care if they lose that floating x variable of potential income. They wanna know what base they are working with when the economy dies. Savvy? Seems they want to know what a potential worst case scenario would be long before they HAVE a worst case scenario so they can plan around it accordingly. In essence this is about money. It's about having enough money to continue supplying us with Eve. . atleast I hope that is what it's about. If it is really just about trying to milk the players for more dinero then I can go get financially taken advantage of elsewhere true. . but I like playing Eve. It offers a depth of gameplay I can't find anywhere else. In a world where most games involve going somewhere to kill random things so you can get items to go somewhere else and kill random things there; I like being able to have a character that never has to ever enter combat to be a productive and entertaining option. I try to remember that when CCP does stuff I disagree with.
