how many of you wait to turn in a mission because of the deadspace it spawns? like if i run a mission, and it spawns a huge asteroid field, i will mine till im content before i turn in the mission. Normally make more off the haul, then the mission time bonus.
anyone else do this? _____________________ *warp drive acti...wait, where are we going?*

Mining is boring and doing another mission in the same time will get me much more ISK ( + its a bit less boring).
So, no I dont do that.

There are some missions in which is very profitable to mine if you have a good mining ship (i.e. a Hulk). Enemies Abound is one of those. In fact, I normally farm EA 1/5 because you can make about 120M from just mining the omber and kernite in the mission, which is a nice AFK payday.

Mining the mission area can be beneficial. The aforementioned example, Enemies Abound, is profitable to mine because it has Kernite and Omber...in a spot that is hard for others to reach. That last part is a clincher for many missioners that mine on the side.
Other good examples are missions in Gallente space that have Pyroxeres rocks in them. Pyroxeres gives you a small amount of Nocxium, which is next to impossible to get in Hi-Sec Gallentean space - just like Isogen is next to impossible to get in Hi-Sec Caldari space (which is the chief reason so many choose to mine the Omber & Kernite in Enemies Abound).
There will always be people that say that it is not worth it to mine the asteroids in missions, for whatever reasons. Whether that holds true for you or not depends on whether you prefer to get your own minerals, or just buy them on the market. |

If static belts are removed completely (as has been suggested in F&I), this may be the only truly viable option for mining in a reliable manner.

Come to think of it, in all the years I've played EVE I could probably count the number of times I've mined a mission on one hand - and that would only be after I have an unfortunate accident with the ejection port on a Tech II Small Neutron Blaster.
Yet, last night I had a few minutes free after I got back from a weekend in the city so I sat down to run some of the "newb" missions on an Alt I'd generated recently as I'd been meaning to try them since that aspect of the game was last developed further. I warped into part 9 of 10 of "Cash for Capsuleers" and saw a belt full of the practically worthless Crokite, Jaspet and Gneiss ores used to decorate the place and surely not woth activating a Miner I on, let alone a Tech II Strip Miner.
I then noticed that aside from the wothless ore, there was a small but still noticable portion of rich plagioclase floating in there. I decided to bring up my mining Alt to see if the gate could accept a Hulk - it could, funnily enough. I decided to pull the rich plagioclase out with the Hulk before I went to bed. Interestingly enough, I think it may be worth more than the Kestrel I'll get when I turn in the mission later today - once I get home from classes.
I think people are too often blinded by trying to find the most "efficient" method of generating ISK instead of making it via a pursuit they enjoy. I think quite a few people mine missions if they think it'll be worth it - especially when it can be a small break from the constant mission grind.
Also the Dread Gurista frigate spawn was a nice surprise.

hmm depends...
i have mined nearly all mine. But i do use multiple accounts and monitors. 5 Hulks and 1 x hauler...
I find it harder to manage 6 accounts running level 4's than all them sitting in a field rolling the cycles over.
Certain missions i keep for as long as possible and out of a few hrs mining a day i can make over a bil a week. Just depends on the mood :)
So if your going to multi box then id suggest mining and if not then skip and grind the next mission.
Not saying which is better but i like watching films and chilxing on a roid or 2 **********

You people are nuts... Omber is available in unlimited quantities in high-sec systems all over minmatar space. There is a system called Ogoten which has a refinery in it, it's usually completely empty. Every belt has more omber than you can mine...

Omber is not available in Amarr space, so I mine the Omber I find in missons and sell it for twice the value of the minerals it refines to.
Recently I mined 400,000 units of Omber, which sells for 35M. It may take awhile to sell it all, but my trade alt has nothing to do but sit and monitor my loot and ore sales orders.
Omber is needed for storyline missions, namely "Materials for War Preparation". Non-miners need omber in quantity to complete the mission, thus the high price of the ore.

Well, perhaps that's a fine choice if your focus is mining, but if your focus is on running missions (as the OP implies), then mining Omber AND Kernite in deadspace with little chance of interference from other players as a secondary source of income is a better choice.

Asteroids in deadspace are especially useful if your corp is wardecced - having your own private asteroid belt vastly increases the safety of mining.

If its got something I need, I will mine it.
Where I am, zydrine is not exactly cheap, but there is a 7 part mission I think it is with some nice Gneiss roids in it. Once I clear the hostiles, I'll come back in the barge and mine the Gneiss, giving me a load of zydrine for my manufacturing side.

I always seem to run into trapped asteroids. Is there a way to deal with those? I didn't even know they existed until I went afk while mining some Pyroxeres in a mission. I came back and was about 200hp from popping...

Whilst helping a new player through low level L1's I've been mining out the decent deposits (residual survey scan fitted) see if its worth your while, Anyways ran one of the L1'a myself out of boredom, actually had bad head and didn't want to concentrate. 1.0 space, I have my overview in mission combat set to show rare ores and mineable gas clouds, just set for future prospects. Low and behold Arkonor popped up on the overview, woohoo, motherload, going price was 8k unit, 24mill in about 1.5hr alone, damn stupid me I removed the required item, so it didn't respawn after dt :( watching for this one again in the future |
