Edited by: Blane Xero on 20/10/2008 09:50:56 Oh Ebuyer, why oh why did you ever trust these guys.
It started on friday, i ordered some new compy parts on next day delivery, set alarm for 8AM as i know they like to call early (CityLink, that is) and then went to sleeps.
Wake up, by the time i'm downstairs, its about 8:10AM, so i sit in my livingroom watching TV, generally laughing at cartoon badguy one-liners.
Ticks over to 9:30, no delivery, so i start up my pc, check mail, etc, etc. Only to find a mail in my inbox saying "Delivery was attempted (And failed) at 8:35AM" and i go, check my front door, and not even put right through, is a citylink note.
RESCHEDULED DELIVERY!
Same thing today, only this time the driver didnt sign his/her name, nor the exact time delivery was attempted, according to ebuyer it was 8:29AM, but once again i heard nothing.
And guys, i have a damn Doorbell, with a red button on a white door, if they cannot see it, they need to re-evaluate their little slogan. Specialists they aint.
So now i'm off to go pick it up at the nearest Citylink depot, and scream my head off at them, which will take me a while cause no buses run right past THIS particular depot!
Oh and the best bit is, look at citylinks reviews and scores, on reviewcentre. Nothing but bad reviews, and only 8% reccomended them, compared to nearly 171 bad reviews and only about 15 good ones.

Yeah, they are crap, I always go pick up my stuff at their depot which thankfully is in my town. There's no point having a go at some dude who's going to go into the warehouse and get your stuff, unless you really want him to kick it all the way back to his counter.

I only had one bad delivery from CityLink in the past but I would still prefer to use them over ROYAL FAIL and PARCEL FARCE anyday.

Edited by: Rawr Cristina on 20/10/2008 10:22:16 At least eBuyer actually get their stock out on time. I ordered stuff from Overclockers before and it took them a WEEK to get something to me, despite paying some stupid amount for Next Day Delivery.
eBuyers Super Saver 'within 5 working days' is what I always go for now, I've yet to have to wait more than 2 days for anything to show up (not counting weekends)
That and it's usually either completely free or some silly cheap price like 3.95, far far less than what OC charge...

what i hate most about courier companies is the way they treat your parcels. I don't think i've ever had a parcel arrive without the box being mangled.

City Link seems to be pretty much a lottery in that it depends on who your local driver is. Some drivers are simply too lazy to ring your doorbell and give you the parcel, others are okay.

It's what you get with companies having the same expense overhead and lowballing eachother for the contracts. Employees barely getting paid will barely care.

Overclockers are a bunch of tossers when it comes to P&P.
When you buy something there is a myriad of charges to choose from. I pick Royal Mail as the depot is nearby and the idiots still use City Link. I'm paying P&P so why can't I have Royal Mail, I've paid their rates. It's because City Link gave Overclockers a back hander thats why and they keep the difference in price while I have to drive bloody miles to fetch my parcel.
Home Delivery Network is possibly the worst ever service. Not sure why it has Home in the title never gets anywhere near mine.
My particular favourite is when a card is left and you catch them and ask for them for the parcel. Some of them don't actually have it. Sometimes they just go around in a car putting cards through they never had any intention of delivering anything.

This is why I didn't buy from Overclockers until recently or ebuyer ever, because they use Citylink. Honestly they are the worst delivery company imaginable. I have nothing but praise for DHL, and with Overclockers you can choose Royal Mail special delivery on most things now, which has opened them up as an option again. Until their site and billing revamp I was using dabs [which is actually a lot better IMHO now] for components.
The guys at our local depot are a bunch of thugs, stupid thugs though. It specifically says I can't use a debit card as ID on a big poster next to their desk, but I flashed one at them and they grunted and gave me my package. They often take days longer than expected to deliver parcels to me as well, their depot is open at the most inconvenient and unsociable hours imaginable and the service is appalling [I've had one guy swear and rant at me about how it's not his fault for about 5 minutes before refusing to give me my package].
For this reason, I specifically avoid anyone using Citylink - more like Shittylink [see what I did there?] - and I have had bad experiences with parcel force in the past too.

No, they actually did use Royal Mail. I saw the big red van with "royal mail" roll up to my house, a bloke wearing a Royal Mail uniform get out and hand me my special delivery package for a blu-ray drive for my new PC.
Might depend on where you live though.

Had the same thing with DHL when we ordered something from Dabs... I was in the whole day, didn't play music, or do anything loud, didn't go to sleep...yet somehow I managed not to hear them knock, probably because they fecking didn't
Got to the door, read the slip, time was like 14.25...'We're sorry you were out and we were unable to deliver...' I was in! __________________________ Indulge Me Consider Yourself Indulged - Immy ♥ Wow immy scored - Xorus

You shouldn't buy from OCUK because they're bullshit artists and as such do not deserve your money.
Citylink are forever carding and they're a total ballache to collect from.
I completely fail to understand them doing that. I mean they've loaded the parcel, they've driven to your house...
Maybe they didn't fancy waiting for the parcel and didn't actually have it on the truck or something
I've had (generally) positive experiences dealing with Target and DHL but you get the occasional bit of muppetry with all of them. Quality of local driver (and depot) can vary wildly whatever company you use.
Quote: A delivery service that takes into account the majority of people, and delivers your parcels in the damn evening when you're actually home!
They tend to be collecting at this time of day. Your best bet is generally to give them your work address.

I happen to work for one of the largest direct business mailing houses in the UK, and I can vouch that CityLink are shocking. Royal Mail aren't far behind.
The only people we've never experienced any real issues with have been TNT.

WTF???
Don't you people have FedEx in your country? I'm pretty sure that they are an International company, just get crap delivered by them.
Alternately, UPS does a good job, and they are international as well.
Newegg.com, probably the very BEST computer and electronics sales website in North America, uses both FedEx and UPS. I have YET to have a bad delivery issue from them, even after YEARS for buying from them, not ONE delivery issue.
Methinks you need to either pick a different delivery choice, or a different retailer.

The companies over in the UK will, ultimately, when it comes down to it, pick who they give your stuff to deliver to you, unfortunatly.

I don't think I've seen either as options on any UK-based site I've seen.
My favourite of City Link's many delightful tricks is to leave my delivery with another house in the street and then not tell me which one on the little card they leave. (*protip* it's never the house next door to you*) -------------------------------------------------- 'people will always be tempted to wipe their feet on anything with 'welcome' written on it.' |

I've had nothing but good service from royal mail, parcelforce and citylink.
My parcels have always came in good condition and in and around the time suggested.
guess it just depends on your driver and the deopt your nearby.

One international delivery from FedEx and they charged me $40.00 admin fee [for a poster from the Valve store] on top of customs charges which I don't really mind paying.
After that, even if they were a mainstream market force in the UK, I would not be using them. Most companies use one of DHL, Home Delivery Network, Royal Mail, Initial Citylink, TNT or Parcel Force as their courier. American couriers like UPS and FedEx are very limited over here - generally confined to the business sector.

They aren't nicknamed 'Shittylink' for nothing you know It takes a special company a lot of time getting it very wrong to earn such a dire reputation.
I remember once my dept. waiting on an Internet order, supposed to be delivered by Citylink. It never arrived, so we called their help centre, who reported noone available to take delivery. We have a 24 hr manned front gate and security desk Later we got security to play back the footage...the van pulled into the entrance, did a U and drove off -------------

UPS overnight is a special thing. I ordered a new fan and paid for the overnight service. I check status 3 hours later and the package is already on a truck. Two more hours later the package has traveled nearly 100 miles and is now boarding a plane. The next morning at at 7:30 before I left for work it was at my door.
